Band shirts?

Where do people buy band shirts? Im talking shirts like Iron Maiden, AC/DC,Guns n Roses, Skynyrd, Van Halen, etc..
Mainly heavy metal.

I was in a few hippy shops in San Francisco today but all they had were Grateful Dead and Bob Marley shirts.

Concerts, Hot Topic

PoweredByPorn 07-05-2004 04:35 AM

I've gotten a couple hard-to-find shirts off eBay.

bltzkriegmcanon 07-05-2004 05:08 AM

[sarcasm]Oh please redarrow, don't be that guy who wears the shirt of his favorite band to his favorite band's concert. That would just make you a "sell-out."[/sarcasm]

KWSN 07-05-2004 08:13 AM

concerts and bands' sites.

seriously though, the person who wears a bands shirt to a concert, while i have nothing wrong with it, does tend to get looked at as a dumbass.... exceptions involve if like they have some sort of awesome jacket pieced together with leather and band patches, those are cool. especially at iron maiden shows.

Tusko 07-05-2004 09:52 AM

i scored a yardbirds shirt, i thought that was pretty decent.

Yowzah, that site's shirts are CHEAP!

absorbentishe 07-05-2004 01:21 PM

Only place I've found is e-bay. I'll be looking into those sites above, thanks for sharing!

This applies to wearing a shirt of a band other than the one that's playing? I thought "that guy" was just the one wearing the shirt of the band that he's going to see.

I usually wear either my Godflesh T shirt (with the "Streetcleaner" cover) or Ministry hockey jersey ("Animositisomina" logo on the front, number 69 and "fornicatour" across the back). The only time I wear the shirt of a band I'm seeing is when I actually buy the shirt at the concert and find wearing it easier than carrying it around.

skinnymofo 07-05-2004 05:21 PM

i went to a primus concert in june and over heard some people trying to make fun of people for wearing their concert shirts they just bought. now thats all fine and dandy trying to sound cool in front of your date, but where is someone going to put the shirt they bought ? it would be even more stupid swinging around your shirt for 4 hours because your afraid someone might look at you funny for wearing a shirt you just bought.

maleficent 07-05-2004 05:40 PM

I had a quilt that I had made out of all the concerts I had been to in the 80s and into the 90s - was an awesome musical history, there were even some t-shirts that were autographed by the band. Alas, unforseen events caused that quilt to be forever lost.

sapiens 07-05-2004 05:43 PM

I went to a Rush concert a few weeks ago. There were tons of people with Rush T-shirts on (both t-shirts recently purchased and twenty year old concert t-shirts). Maybe people who go to Rush concerts are uncool. :(

redarrow 07-05-2004 09:16 PM

Ok thanks everybody (esp ninety09)
at theweathermen.com I got:

Iron Maiden Shirt (just plain logo)

Iron Maiden Trooper Shirt

Motley Crue Too Fast Love Cover Shirt

Tool Ænima Eye Logo Shirt

Guns and Roses Pistols and Roses Shirt

AC/DC Red Logo Shirt

Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy Blue Logo Shirt

Black Sabbath Vintage Logo Shirt

Def Leopard Pyromantic Shirt

thats why if I plan on buying a shirt, I plan on having a place to keep it. usually i can befriend a barkeep and he'll let me keep excess stuff behind the bar if i plan on going in the pit.

I think that's a given.

get a misfits t-shirt.

The best one in my opinion.

Tusko 07-06-2004 10:37 AM

i do find most abnd shirts to be immensely tacky.

I will, next time I get some extra cash.

There's nothing wrong with someone wearing a t-shirt of the band who they are seeing.

For example, you see a Tool concert and you show up with a Tool shirt on. Nothin wrong with that. Please explain to me why that's so wrong.

I thought people were JOKING at first when they go "oh that guy's wearin the shirt of this band! What a loser!" but then I realized they were serious. People have some wacked out self esteem issues that they take out on others

I only own four band shirts: two Type O Negative shirts (Word Coming Down, October Rust), a Therion shirt (Vovin), and a King Crimson shirt (Power to Believe). The only shirt that fits right is the King Crimson... its a medium. The others are way too big.

Why such a lack of "medium" and "small" shirts for metal bands?! Argh...

Oh well, its not like I can wear any of these shirts to work nowadays :D

07-06-2004 08:06 PM

In Canada, there's a chain called Backstage Pass that has a ton of band shirts like that....

I concur. I'll wear what I want.

doomdoom 07-06-2004 08:31 PM

i get them wherever they sell blank shirts and magic markers.

bltzkriegmcanon 07-07-2004 07:09 AM

OWNED. That's something you should wear to a damn garage band emo-scenester concert. That'll teach those fuckers to attempt intellectualy snobbery, even though they know that the band at "the show" sucks. I hate that. "Did you go to the show last night?" Christ, people. It's a fucking concert. Stop moping, wear some clothes that allow for breathing, drop the horn-rimmed glasses with NO LENSES in them!

i think I said this already....of course there is nothing WRONG with wearing a Tool T-shirt to a Tool show. But everyone already knows you like Tool...you're at the concert, right? Thus, it's more fun to wear a T-Shirt to a different band to maybe spark up conversation with other fans who also like that band. There is no need to advertise that you're a Tool fan at a Tool concert. That's redundant. Why not bring a walkman and listen to Tool albums during the concert?

gallopingwanker 07-14-2004 08:42 AM

if you go see a band, and you're wearing their shirt....all you're doing is supporting the band....

Sure, but simply buying a ticket and showing up means you're supporting them. Why not help support another band you like by wearing THEIR shirt to another band's concert?

gallopingwanker 07-14-2004 11:16 AM

because, if you can double support a band, DO IT!...haha, i don't wear the bands shirt that i see...i just don't see why people that do get a bad name....it's sorta stupid

r3ptile 07-14-2004 04:07 PM

my favorite t-shirts are always those i purchase at shows - that way they serve not only to express your loyalty to the band you saw, but also as a nice momento (or whatever) to remind you of the kickass performance you witnessed.

ForwardtoDeath 07-14-2004 04:10 PM

Nothing better than a shirt that you bought at a concert to remind you of how great that concert was. I don't really see the point of buying band shirts at a store, as they are usually overpriced and unless its impossible to see the band, have no meaning or significance. But I dont see the problem in wearing a band shirt of the band that is performing. I usually get lucky and can leave my shit by the merch table, as my friend always becomes best friends with the merch people, but if you can't, you dont wanna get your brand new shirt stolen, so the only solution is to wear it.

braindamage351 07-18-2004 10:02 PM

Band websites often have a shop thing where you can buy band merchandise.

Because I don't give a damn about what anyone else thinks about my clothing choices. It seems a little snobby to look down on someone simply because their "clothing politics" differ from yours. People like this need to grow up and stop judging others by something as trivial as a t-shirt. I mean, seriously. After high-school, we should grow out of that type of behavior.

here is a fine example supporting my point:

Saturday night I go to see a Chicago band called The Bad Examples. Straight forward bluesy bar rock. I wear my Reverend Horton Heat work shirt, and within 5 minutes of getting there, a guy comes up to me and strikes up a conversation abou the Rev. Would he have approached me had I been wearing a Bad Examples T-Shirt? No, because he probably assumes everyone in the bar likes the band (which is why they are there). So just wearing that shirt got me a fun conversation to kill the time before the band went on...
