The Cure
Anyone get the new album today? My true question for those that did though, is how do you rip it? I havent been able to listen to it yet because i cant get it to rip in iTunes.
I guess its good thought. |
probably the same as the velvet revolver CD. copy right protected music, its probably done in protected wma format, iTunes can't import or play protected wma.
just burn the wma songs to a CD, using windows media player or something that supports wma files, then import that burn into iTunes. kinda sucks, cause you will lose a lil in the quality, but there's really no way around it, not that i'm aware of. unless you have a few of those programs out that strip the protection from the file. |
erk... but WMP dosent pick them up either. When i put the disk in, it just dose the auto play for the silly little animation and such.
|
What about cdex? Does it rip them? I haven't heard anything about a new CD format that protects against ripping.
|
From Engadget: How-To Tuesday: Disable AutoRun on Windows. Or get a friend with a Mac to rip it for you.
|
Thanks man! that got the job done, just had to reboot after i did that small fix.
Its a great album, i havent listened to much..if any cure before this, but i'm really digging it. |

After I installed it, my toolbar changed. I also got spyware on my computer (from lycos) for the first time in about a year. Do you think they put something in there they shouldn't have? Can someone tell me what the file I downloaded did? Thanks. |
So how is the album? I'm really curious since this is supposedly their last, and because I liked Bloodflowers a lot.
|
I dont really know what to compair it to, and i havent listened to any of there stuff before, but i will say it is totaly going to get me to buy more.
|
I heard their new album is awesome. Best compared to Disintegration.
I don't own it yet. |

Just downloaded it to sample, and I'll definitly be buying it the next chance I get. It's no Disintergration, but still a damn fine album, and much better than anything else that's been released so far this year.
|
It is a good album, I like.
|
I'm downloading a few tracks right now. I haven't liked much of their recent stuff, but I gathered from what StrangeAsAngels said that the new album is much closer to their earlier works. The reviews at amazon.com seem to confirm that.

Thanks for the link Sinister! I'm an obsessed Cure fan and even have a Cure related tattoo.
I LOVE this album. It's very heavy as far as the guitars and Robert Smith's singing goes. I'm a little disappointed in some of the lyrics as they seem a bit simple but overall, I'm enjoying it. I think the one thing that album (at least the US version as there are like 4 versions total including the Japan, UK and vinyl) is that one sort of romantic Cure song. I'll be seeing them on the 28th and can't wait. |

The tattoo is from one of their maxi singles out back in 92. |
Cool ink, SAA! :D
I'm not all that pleased with the new album. There's nothing particularly inspired about it. Smith's lyrics used to be full of clever double entendres and metaphors years ago. Now it's all whiny relationship stuff. The drummer is way too busy on most of these songs too. Smith is a much better guitarist than this album shows. I think he'd be better off leaving the Cure and doing some other kind of rock music for a change. |
Bloodflowers was "supposed" to be their last album and RS decided to record some stuff on his own. He was going to release it and then decided he wasn't through with The Cure and this line up of the band yet.
Personally, I'd love to hear how he'd sound without "The Cure" sound. I'm ok with the whiny relationship stuff as long as it's set to the right kind of melody and I feel that's what's missing from this album, or the US version. There's much better songs that are on the vinyl than this and it pisses me off. I'll be forced to toss out more bucks to have those. But being the dorkass that I am, I'll spend the money on it. One other thing, and I think I mentioned this in our overtake, albeit brief of the introduction thread :D, I believe alot of the way this album sounds has to do with it being co-produced by Ross Robinson. How pathetic that I can go on and on about this band. Thanks for the compliment on the tatt! |
I was wondering how much the fact that it was released by a major label like Geffen had to do with it too. It seems like they did their best work under the Fiction label.
|
I agree with your Fiction comment. I just hate to think RS sold out to be a corporate whore. I think they're signed to do two more albums with them. Of course, they could just end up being B sides and what not.
I'm a little disappointed in this whole festival setting too. I mean it's alright and gives me another chance to see them live BUT I rather like 3 hour sets from them and no one opening for them. |
I don't get how they went from "retirement" to signing a three record deal. I hope they make the most of it though. Maybe they'll wise up and reinvent themselves instead of beating the same old horse to death on the next two.
|
Hell, it's like KISS and The Rolling Stones and their 42 final tour concerts, lol! I mean how many times do you say this is our final tour, final album only to tour again the following year? Bleh I say!

Good album
