Where are the Hip-Hop Heads at?

I've been on this board for a little while and I haven't seen anyone talk about Hip-hop.

Hip-hop is my life, my passion and the air that I breathe. If you love Hip-hop music, take a moment and drop a line for an artform that has taken over the mainstream!

To all the Hip-Hop heads on TFP.....STAND UP!

Holla!

Redlemon 05-28-2004 11:13 AM

Heh... whatever you do, don't get involved over in this thread.

crow_daw 05-28-2004 11:47 PM

This thread isn't gonna last very long here. I used to love hip-hop. But then I, and I don't mean this to be insulting, grew out of it. I mean that literally, as I got older I just became interested in different types of music. But hey man, I can't sit here and claim to be more musically tasteful than you, I love country music, and I realize that for the most part it's total bullshit.

So I'm not dissing rap, I still like it in certain situations and DMX will probably always be my favorite musician of all time, I just don't listen to it like I used to. But yeah be warned, don't look for too much of a response on the TFP.

jay-g 05-29-2004 12:03 AM

I like all kinds of music. But hip-hop is my favorite. And when i am 70 years old, i'll still will be listening to 2pac and others.

eltardo 05-29-2004 02:32 AM

I'm a huge hip-hop fan myself. I grew up listening to it and still love it. I'm not a huge fan of most of the commercial stuff but a lot of what is considered "underground" I like quite a bit. Stuff like Jedi Mind Tricks, Warlocks, Non-Phixion, Atmosphere, Mur, and many many more. Anyone out there who has written off hip-hop because of all the crap that's on TV and radio, don't give up! There's some good stuff out there, you just have to dig for it sometimes.

kalashnikov 05-29-2004 10:51 AM

Atmosphere is some good fun shit, although as snobbish as this sounds, not that I am starting to hear him on the radio, I am becoming less interested...
Eyedea is definately worth checking out (E & A specifically), same with Aesop Rock (and for those of you who think rap is just about hoes and AK's, these guys break that image.
Jurassic 5 rocks my world.

kalashnikov 05-29-2004 10:54 AM

Jurassic 5 completely breaks the stereotype of rap (that it is angry black men (or white in the case of eminem) rapping about shooting people and using drugs and hoes). They are intelligent and extremely talented. Plus, it just sounds good (if you don't give a hoot about content.)

Esoteric 05-30-2004 04:16 PM

Hip hop head right here..

impulse03 05-30-2004 06:45 PM

i listen to mostly everything except pure pop and country music.

lately however, ive been listening to a shit load of rap/hip hop cus i just got a new sound system in my car.

jl audio w6v2 12in sub...bass= amazing!

Jesus Malverde 05-30-2004 11:57 PM

Hip hop is my favorite genre by far, but I like to keep myself open to all types of music. I don't have my system anymore :( but I will definitely be bumping the bass when I'm an old man.

I used to be a fan of 2pac and Bone Thugs n Harmony then like crow_daw i kinda grew out of it. Once i realised that sitting around for days on end taking drugs and hanging around with (what i would now call) scum wasnt my thing. Now I'm into Punk and Ska music

jurassic 5 man...

H12 05-31-2004 06:17 PM

Dude, I love hip-hop and rap. My CD player currently has nothing but rap in it (Outkast's "Speakerboxxx", Kayne West's "College Drop0out", Talib Qweli's "Quality", Chingy's "Jackpot", and Ludacris's "Chicken-n-Beer"). I'm a fan of all forms of music, but hip-hop and punk rock have the two tightest grips on me.

Jiggadrew32 06-01-2004 10:52 AM

I never would have thought that there would be so many people on this site that don't have love for Hip-hop but whatever. Just cause ya'll don't like it doesn't mean that I'm going to stop listening to it.

It kinda seems that those who are hating on the art form are looking at it from the perspective of people who are not connected with it. I called out the hip-hop community, not the haters.

bbbbbb555 06-01-2004 12:52 PM

i listen to a lot of hip hop. my favorite is Slug from atmosphere. i have all the atmosphere cds on my computer along with about 12 cds of just slug. most of the rhymesayers and anticon stuff is good. i also like necro and apathy.

lol...so i did. haha. well, the only two music genre's that i cant stand listening to county and pop.

but yea man, Rap/hip-hop, Ska, and Punk are by far my favorites. all my friends think im a fool. in my car i always have rap going and around the house and all, its usually ska and punk. im goofy like that i suppose, but i love it.

Esoteric, please tell me your name is reference to 7L's partner. If it is, then you are the first person I've ever encountered that likes them.

by the way, hip hop head right here

Scipio 06-02-2004 09:31 AM

I listen to rap (or hip hop or whatever).

Right now:

Jay-Z - The Grey Album
The Roots - Phrenology

+ Jurassic 5, Outkast, 50 Cent

cockmonger 06-03-2004 03:35 PM

i don't think theres anything else but hip hop right now that continues to sound fresh...i mean with all the current rock bands turning to utter shit (flame me if you will, but WTF is Slipknot - Vol. III) While fresh artists are rising up everyday in hip hop.

I don't know if this is the place for this or not, but why is everyone trash talking the new Method Man CD. I think Tical 0 is ten times better that Tical 2000. ah well

Yep, it is. Not many people out there know about Esoteric and 7L. Sad for them, they're missing out on some dope lyricists.

docbungle 06-03-2004 08:56 PM

Volume 10's "Hip-Hopera" is my favorite hip-hop album of all time. Of course, like most really good hip-hop, it's difficult to find. Seems like if it's not on the radio, no one wants to carry it.

Nafter 06-06-2004 06:40 AM

Eltardo has my sorta tastes :D underground i think, but never can tell how popular they are over in the states, a lot are pita to get tho

Jedi mind tricks
Aesop Rock
Company Flow
cannibal ox
Atmosphere
Awol One
mikah nine
Jroz
Of mexican decent
hiphop fellowship etc
sage francis
arsonists

a load more this is what i can think of off the top of me head
hoping to get to awol ones shows in france when hes over there bit of a trek but can make a holiday out of it.
Wish i lived in NYC so i could go to some of the shows

Lacjack 06-06-2004 06:44 AM

for all of you that listen to mainstream hip hop you got no idea, what your missing in the underground scene. Check out anybody from Defjux including "RJD2, aesop rock, Cannibal Ox, Mr. lif, and others" some other good guys are living legends, soul position, atmosphere AKA "SLUG" , eydea, Buck 65, mf doom, theres others but most of thoes guys are my favourites.
