Good Drum Machine Software?

Hey all. I'm a guitarist/songwriter, but I don't have much time to practice or dedicate to a full time band. I have messed with home recording some, and would like to get some decent sounding drum tracks to play with.

Do you guys have any recommendations for good drum machine software? I am looking for something relatively cheap, and prefer authentic sounds to any other abilities. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey, man. I find that Fruity Loops is the easiest to use, but with Buzzmachines you can create with more freedom (and is TOTALLY free). Meh, use FL, it will be the easiest.

i use a program called tuareg 2.5. it rocks, but it's not really a classic drum machine.... it's a whole lot more.... it's something you'd like if you wanna use samples, loops, etc. you can download it here:

http://www.brambos.com

and then there's another one i use called pc drummer. they have a demo version you can try out:

http://www.pcdrummer.com

give them a shot.

p.s. - i use buzzmachines too, but that program requires some pretty hardcore programming skillz. it's not as intuitive as these other programs, but buzzmachines is still pretty cool.

Everyone always says that Fruity Loops is so easy... but I have a hard time getting the sounds I want out of it... Anyone know of a tutorial or something online that could give me some basic ideas of how the software works...

I could've sworn I saw a tutorial in the software itself somewhere, but I can't seem to find it now...

Well, buzz and brambos are way more in depth than I am needing. I really like creating all of the sounds myself, it's just a little hard to keep a drummer locked up to record day and night . I like PCDrummer, but $55 seems a bit high to me. It sounds a little authentic, but not quite $55 worth . I'm not sure about fruity loops, because the acoustic drum sounds don't seem to work for me. I load them up and it will only play about half of them. For example - when I try to add a bass drum beat I hear a pop where the sound would start and a pop where the sound would end, but nothing in between. Maybe some setting I have set wrong.

Anyway, I appreciate your suggestions very much. I am still going to play with FL and PCDrummer some, and I will probably check out some traditional drum machines at the store tomorrow. It looks like I may have to shell out some cash for one if I want to get authentic sounding tracks.

Fruity Loops is great, but have you thought about getting a drum machine? The Boss DR-570 is awesome, and (for us guitar players) has a bass generator that is laid out like the frets on a bass, so it's pretty intuitive.

I picked up a second hand drum machine at a Dj store for 30 bills. It works great, is Midi compatible & all that. Shop around you may be able to get your hands on the real thing.

Acid Pro is easy and has some good drum sounds also kinda pricey but almost unlimited availability on loops. the boss drum machine is great advice also with it and a Pandora you can do allmost anything you want

Yep, after trying some of the software, I will probably have to go the route of an actual machine. Hopefully I can save up enough or find a sweet deal like magpie did. Thanks for the advice.

I haven't used anything other than FruityLoops. It is an amazing application. Drum machine would be cool. I always thought they were expensive. I just might look into getting a used one now tho. Thanks MagPie!

I am an avid ACID user - and it really delivers (though it is expensive for the latest release as mentioned above)

Ive also liked the hammerhead freeware for creating loops

Hope that helps
