OK, who's with me.... Is this not the most original band ever to grace our ears?

I don't know about "most original" but they are pretty unique some times. My favorite is "Zelda" cause Im a big geek ;)

I am a big fan of System of a Down. I love their songs. They are rarely rivaled in originality. They can make you a fan out of songs that are seriousy weird. The only band that can captivate my imagination with songs that <i>shouldn't</i> be as good as they are is Red Hot Chili Peppers. Different genre, but similar in that their songs are weird.

I really enjoy Sugar, Aerials, and Chop Suey. There are others but those are the best in my opinion.

Yeah, System's pretty good and definitely different from all the other trash that falls onto radio.

I think they are awesome, but most original? Doesn't compare to Red Hot Chili Peppers. I think their music is great, but I haven't seen them live yet, that will paint the true picture for me.

RHCP haven't made a good album in over 10 years. SOAD are great. Not all their stuff is RF.

Whoa, are you serious? There new stuff is just as original and crazy as their classics! While it's certainly a different pace than the old days, it's definitely not anything less than good. The reason I am such a big fan of ALL of their music is because no matter what period of time you pick, their songs follow a similar route: at first you hate the song. Then, you like one part of the song. Then you absolutely love the song and can't get it out of your head :)

IMO Californication was the biggest piece of crap ever written. Lots of people like it, I can't stand it. To me, they've lost all of their edge and just write melodramatic garbage these days.

Don't listen to me though, I think St. Anger is a good album and the trash can snare drum doesn't bother me. I also liked Load and Reload...

SOADs live show is quite good, it was awhile ago so don't remember the specifics, but I know they rocked hard 8). Was with Mindless Self Indulgence(another really original band) and Clutch(HORRIBLE) at the Aragon Ballroom like 2 years ago.

I LOVE St. Anger, it's my favorite Metallica album so far...I also enjoyed Load and Reload :)

What's your favorite song off of St. Anger? Unnamed Feeling is probably mine. St. Anger, Dirty Window, and Some Kind of Monster in a close second!

I love SOAD. My fav song of theirs is ATWA and Roulette. Never listened to their fist album, I will sooner or later though

got big into system of a down 5 years ago, right after their first album. my interest kinda died off but was re-awakened when i heard chop suey on the radio. they're definitely one of my favorite "new" bands. they put on a damn energetic live show too (saw them with meshuggah 2 years back).

I like Frantic probably more than any song on there. When they performed it at the end of their uber-compilation on MTV I about shat my pants.

That was pretty cool.


Back to SOAD, I've only seen them live once, and they didn't impress me. The live recordings I've heard are bad also.

I'm sorry to say this, because everyone seems to be thinking the opposite, but I hate System of a Down. Every time they come on the radio I change it as fast as possible.

A lot of people also hate them because they are very critical of the current administration. Of course many of them are the ones who say "If you don't like it, you can giiiit out!"

Very good points of view from you all. Red Hot original? Um, maybe..... Metallica???? Metallica? Man....... I guess this band will never go away, it is so novelity anymore. Their music is so predictable. Now, before all you phockers jump my $hit, I am the first to tell ya. That is the beauty about music, there is something out there for everyone to enjoy. that is why we have so many bands to listen to......

Their live show is mixed. Sometimes, they are serious (as serious as they can be) about preforming and get it right, it oh boy it's right on the money. Other times, they seem like they want to play (David) and start mushing their music together. Not sure if he has had one too many to drink/smoke but he needs to cut that $hit out ; )

O, and some of the new SOAD fans that started with Tox..... Go back one and grab their self tilted CD. That is where it is at!

Yea, my dad listens to them. His favorite band is alexis on fire, and he's 58, and my mom is in to death metal.

Soad early live shows were funny. Serj would get so messed up that they would have to have fans come up and sing.

I love SOAD. Their first album was pretty good, but when Toxicity came out I just could not stop listening to it. It brings back great memorys every time I hear a song by them. Their live shows are pretty good too, at least the ones I've seen.

The self titled album was great, but I liked Tox a lot more.

I saw them with Mr. Bungle at Club Rio in Tempe. I think it was before Tox came out, but they were headlining the show instead of Bungle (bullshit). Shavo crowd surfed naked.

System of a down is a awesome band. Best band today. Not best band, but best band still around (Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine are my faves). My favorite song that System did is Metro, the good version off of Dracula 2000 soundtrack that cusses. Its a cover by Berlin though. great band.

I have a copy that sounds most definatly like SoaD.. uncanny

ya i know, the guy sounds incredibly like Serj but it isn't. It got mislabled like so many songs do on the web. there used to be a huge list of songs that are labled SoAD on the net that arent really by them, but i cant seem to find it now.

Tankian teams up with fellow Armenian Arto Tuncboyaciyan (woodwind solo on Aerials) on this musical blend of middle eastern, world, folk, jazz, hip hop mix and several other genres thrown in for good measure. Great for when you are in the mood for something a little different. Curious, anyone heard this?
