Humm didn't know they did that....I heard on the radio Sevendust covered NIN's Hurt, but can't find that either!

Skifter2 05-29-2004 08:56 AM

Eva Cassidy made some very good covers..

Fields of Gold, Over the Rainbow, Time after Time, What a Wonderful World....actually she made a lot of good covers... :)

Jeff Buckleys version of Halleluja is one damn good cover..

veritas 05-29-2004 09:28 AM

Tori Amos' version of Zep's Thank You blows my mind.

Allgrave 06-01-2004 02:02 PM

I'll second (or third or fourth) Primus's cover of N.I.B.

My favorite is Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of Little Wing.

They're local I got to see them play about a month ago. I'd have to say my fav cover song is Deftones cover of To have and to hold by Depeche Mode.

Scheme 06-02-2004 01:48 AM

most ska covers like Reel Big Fish - Brown eyed girl, Less Than Jake - I would walk 500 miles and others like Pennywise - Land Down Under

Jeff 06-02-2004 12:11 PM

I like the White Stripes cover of Jolene. Originally done by Dolly Parton.

Derwood 06-03-2004 05:53 AM

Not the best ever, but I've taken a shine to Vanilla Fudge's cover of "Keep me Hanging On"

roachboy 06-03-2004 06:01 AM

john mclaughlin's solo cover of "good bye pork pie hat"---done before he joined up with miles davis.

in general, i dont like covers unless the new version shreds the original. coltrane's "my favorite things" is something of an exception, for sentimental reason mostly.

as for mashup things, i really like dj/rupture's reframing of nina simone's "plain gold ring" from minesweeper suite.....

I like the goofy covers myself, found a lot of junk in the cut out bins.

Ballad of the Green Berets (Sgt. Barry Sandler) done by Elvis Hitler
Rainy Days and Mondays (Carpenters) done by Cracker
Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel) done by The Coolies
Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young) done by the Replicants
Rock and Roll All Nite (Kiss) done by Toad the Wet Sprocket

ibis 06-05-2004 09:48 AM

OK, I'm sure it's not the best, but I really like 311's version of the Cure's "Love Song".

fly me to the moon-eva cassidy (org:sinatra)

perripken 06-09-2004 01:53 PM

The Kinks- "You really got me" covered by Van Halen

edit: a quick check of AMG reveals that the only recordings of the song by the man himself are live performances, primarily bootlegs.

I have his live DVD called "Rave" and it's on there. Great DVD btw.

Actually it was on the Hits compilation (3 cds).

Some of my favorites:

Zevon - Knockin' on Heaven's Door. (The emotion is heart-wrenching.)
Hindu Love Gods - Raspberry Beret
Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart - People Get Ready
Hootie & the Blowfish - Hey Hey What Can I Do
The Smiths - Rusholme Ruffians (cover of Elvis' His Latest Flame)

i completely agree... that song gives me chills every time i listen to it. i love how they go back and forth singing the lyrics... their voices compliment each other so well.

Super Model 06-10-2004 02:23 AM

Lemonheads - Mrs. Robinson, awesome remake.

Seer666 06-10-2004 10:38 PM

ANyone here listen to Tori Amois's cd "Strange Little Girl" her covers of Slayer's "Raining blood" and Emiem's "Bonnie and Clyd 98" are fuckiong CREEPY. Good, but still creepy.

I just downloaded the "Hit me baby one more time" cover Travis did...it is great, and pretty damn funny, too (with the people laughing in the background)

taylorspl 06-14-2004 05:40 PM

Just heard The Agony Scene - Paint It Black. Bad ass.

maleficent 07-05-2004 02:15 PM

Pantera's cover is Nugent's Cat Scratch Fever would be on my top five list, along with Mettalica's Turn the Page.

Anything on Aerosmith's Never Loved a Girl, is a fabulous cover of Aretha's Never Loved a Man. In fact the whole Honkin' on Bobo cd is fabulous.

Anxst 07-05-2004 03:52 PM

I've always loved Siouxsie and the Banshees version of Billie Holliday's "Strange Fruit". The original is incredible as well, but the cover brings across the creepy feeling I imagine the lyrics originally brought across when she sang it in the 30's.

Astrocloud 07-05-2004 06:22 PM

Jimi Hendrix's cover of Hey Joe originally by the Byrds.

todd 07-06-2004 10:53 AM

Reel Big Fish's New York New York (originally by Frank Sinatra).

It's AMAZINGLY better than the original.

cheeterbo 07-06-2004 06:55 PM

before i heard dave matthews do watchtower 6 times live, i would have said hendrix hands down, now, it is a tie between them

SinisterMotives 07-12-2004 05:42 PM

Probably "Walk This Way" by Run-DMC, but that's too obvious. I'm gonna go with "Dangerous Type" by Letters To Cleo.
