Lyrics you've never noticed before

I was just wondering how many of you who has known a certain song for weeks, months or even years and one day started to actually listen to the lyrics instead of the music itself!?

In my case it was Dean Martins: That's Amore:

"(In Napoli where love is King, when boy meets girl, here's what they say)

When the moon hits your eye like a big-a pizza pie
That's amore
When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine
That's amore

Bells'll ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you'll sing "Vita bella"
Hearts'll play tippi-tippi-tay, tippi-tippi-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool joost-a like pasta fazool
That's amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet, you're in love
When you walk in a dream but you know you're not dreamin', signore
'scusa me, but you see, back in old Napoli, that's amore

(When the moon hits your eye like a big-a pizza pie, that's amore)
That's amore
(When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine, that's amore)
That's amore

Bells will ring
ting-a-ling-a-ling
ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you'll sing "Vita bella"
Vita bell-vita bella
Hearts will play
tippi-tippi-tay, tippi-tippi-tay
Like a gay tarantella
Lucky fella

When the stars make you drool just like pasta fazool
That's amore (that's amore)
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet, you're in love
When you walk in a dream but you know you're not dreaming, signore
'scusa me, but you see, back in old Napoli, that's amore

Amore
That's amore"

The lyric is actually quite funny when it's suppose to be a love song... I guess I didn't notice it right away because English is not my native language...

Definitely The Cult - She's My Sanctuary.

I had no idea what he was saying until I recently looked up the lyrics.

It was one of my favorite songs before I knew the lyrics and it still is :)

Off-topic, but Spider Robinson did a number on this song:

"When-a you swim inna da sea, an' a eel bites-a you knee, dat's a moray-

"-a New Zealander man with a permanent tan, that's a Maori-

"--when two patterns combine, in a way serpentine, that's a moire--

"--He tells jokes, he's a ham; his last name's Amsterdam-dat's-a Morey!

"--if yer vitamins be mostly C, D and E....take some more A--

"--oh, you play 'What I Say' very gay--won't you play that some more, Ray--

"--My new ray-gun here tries to put out both your eyes: it's a Moe-Ray--

"--If 'King Kong' has gone flat, rent the flick ' Vampire Bat': That's some
more Wray."

The Cult was awesome- I wish they were still around!

I've listened to Bob Dylan's "Tell Me, Momma" for years and even sung along and these two lines popped out at me when I listened to them recently:

"Yes, everybody' wonderin' when your friendship's gonna end
But come on baby, i'm your friend!"

I sort of chuckled when I thought about it...

Luckily, you can just listen to their old albums; they'd sound just like new ones would! It's a good thing I liked their sound too, and didn't mind hearing albums which didn't seem to change in style from year to year. :D

Machine - There But For The Grace Of God Go I

Carlos and Carmen Vidal just had a child
A lovely girl with a crooked smile
Now they gotta split 'cause the Bronx ain't fit
For a kid to grow up in
Let's find a place they say, somewhere far away
With no blacks, no Jews and no gays.

I heard this disco classic for the millionth time this morning but it was the first time I'd ever listened to it.
