What's that called?
Do any of you know the actual name for the type of Tibetan chanting where the monks actually split their vocal cords and are able to sing multiple notes at once? Even better, does anyone know where I can listen to a sample of it?
|
Uh...I know it, but can't think of it. Check out the Gyuta Monks, that's what they're known for. I have to double check on the spelling of (Gyuta)...I'll be back.
Ok...check out this link... http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Throat-singing It's actually "Gyuto" instead of "Gyuta". |
Yes, that is exactly it thank you so much. Kargyraa is what I was looking for. The reason I brought it up is I figured out how to do it. Sure not as well as the real deal, but it's neat. My throat hurts if I doo it too much, though; I guess you don't use that muscle very much. Here is sound byte from the actual monks:

That's really weird, but really cool. How are you going about doing it, Giltwist?

do a search for throat singing in google and you'll get all kinds of great examples... there's some eskimo women that do the same thing, and it's just incredible =)

You know that part of your throat you use when clear your throat? *ahem ahem* That is the same part you use to do it. I will record me doing it and if you guys wanna hear it you can IM, just give me a few minutes.
