Most of the bands I would've listed have recently done (or are doing) reunion tours...I'm not entirely sure that's a good thing, although it DOES mean I get to see bands that broke up before I was born :)

It's not really certain, but Dean DeLeo indicated in an interview that it was pretty much over. I suppose I'll hold my breath, but at any rate, I miss them now.

He has a new project going on now btw, under the moniker "Ontronik" (you can hear some of his stuff at www.ontronik.com) but it's also just not the same as Apex Theory as a band... what I wouldn't give to have them back, man...

my own list:

The Smiths
Sunny Day Real Estate
Desparecidos
Norma Jean (in their original incarnation)
Killswitch Engage (see above)
Black Sabbath
Lynyrd Skynyrd (the shit under the same name right now is NOT lynyrd skynyrd, and shames the name of an amazing band)
The Pixies
At The Drive-In
Metallica (Post-Cliff is just not Metallica.)
Megadeth
Shai Halud

The Boyd Tinsley Band (infinitely superior to the Dave Matthews band.)

I guess it was just a rumor, still, I haven't seen a new album or any sign of them touring, and I do miss that.

God of Thunder 01-26-2004 06:41 PM

Serious answer this time, (although I really do miss Oingo Boingo).

Iron Maiden
Boston
Rush
Powerstation
Steely Dan

Bob Biter 01-26-2004 06:46 PM

What? Soul Coughing only got one lousy mention so far?!? Well, make it two, now!

Search the web for their live version of "Michael Jackson". It'll change your world forevermore.

Oh, and I miss Sublime, which should be painfully obvious by now.

They toured this past summer on the Unlimited Sunshine tour and their site announced a "secret concert" today i believe.

As to God of Thunder, Maiden are still together and strong. I saw them the other night live and they were incredible. Bruce disspelled the rumors of a breakup himself and said that they planned on continuing touring and recording so they showed no sign of being through.

Johnny Rotten 01-26-2004 08:17 PM

Pink Floyd
Queen
The Plastic Ono Band

chimbleysweep 01-26-2004 10:02 PM

One of my favorite bands ever:

The Dismemberment Plan

Their first two albums weren't all that great, but Emergency & I and Change were amazing. My sophmore year in college, I listened to Emergency & I for 6 months straight. (I listened to other artists too, but that was always in heavy rotation.)

Jadey 01-26-2004 11:10 PM

Damn, everyone I would think to mention have already been mentioned.

Ones I especially miss are Pink Floyd (my favorite band ever!), RATM (one of the best shows I've ever seen),
Smashing Pumpkins,
The Ramones!!,
Greateful Dead,
Faith No More,
Soundgarden,
Alice In Chains,
Stabbing Westward,
The Clash!!!

A few not yet mentioned:
Snot
The Misfits (the real The Misfits, not that bad with the name now)
Kyuss (no one mentioned them yet?!?),
White Zombie (Rob solo is close, but not quite the same)

And I can't believe someone said HUM! A friend of mine was the original drummer for HUM, before he left and joined a jazz band with Ryan Martinie (Ryknow of Mudvayne). When that band broke up Ryan joined Mudvayne and Bailey joined another band that didn't make it. Ha-ha! That's funny.

Hum just played a couple of shows in August 2003, including a surprise appearance at Cowboy Monkey in Champaign IL. A friend of mine went and said that it was the sort of thing you tell yr grandkids about.

Others (besides the Pixies, who are touring this summer):

Nirvana (unlike a lot of other missed bands, they hadn't yet come close to reaching their full potential)
Beat Happening
Naked Raygun
Replacements
Faith No More
The Vaselines

drag0nmanes 01-29-2004 12:00 AM

Sublime
Smashing Pumpkins
RATM

i have 3 cds by them - uncle anesthesia, invisible lantern and dust and they are all REALLY good cds. my favourite song of theirs would have to be Butterfly though... just love it.

jbuffett 01-29-2004 09:35 AM

God of Thunder, Rush is still together! New amazing live DVD/CD release last year. Alex might have to serve 90 days in the pokey for his new year's eve altercation..... Although if you mean the original Rush with John Rutsey on drums, I pity you!

Boston (from the first three albums

jbuffett 01-29-2004 09:36 AM

I have to add Van Halen (Sammy Hagar version)

Jizzosh 01-31-2004 02:45 AM

I think this thread is far more depressing then it was intended to be. I think I'm gonna go pull out my cds/mp3s and cry now....

Daryl is doing ha, and that is keeping him busy and in the mean time i am just writing, writing, writing. You know people get all caught up on the fact that gj members are all doing other things,,, but that is the way it has always been. When gj songs are composed they have always been composed entirely by one member on their own time, so if todd or dave where jerking off on jupiter it really wouldn't matter the same process would still continue and gj would still produce music. So if it takes a month more or another decade expect more of the gj. So chill out and drink a malted.

a personal letter from beck that is very recent is much more reliable than a dated statement from someone in another band (and yes i know todd from gj worked with them in the past but it is still not direct)

CheeseButtons 02-01-2004 09:50 PM

I didn't start listening to Nirvana until after...but I miss them.

pan6467 02-01-2004 10:24 PM

The KINKS............ Innovative, lyric driven, and never ever predictable

Van Halen............. Diver Down was a perfect album, Eddie's guitar and Alex's drums with Diamond Dave just can't be touched

Shakespear's Sister............ Siobhan Fahey and Marcy Levy were not only HOT but 2 women that really could knock your socks off with thier vocals and lyrics

Heart.............. Ann and Nancy Wilson had the lyrics, voice and the guitar to put many male bands to shame

The MOODY BLUES........ what more needs said there

and of course the Police, Bruce Springsteen, REM, Cheap Trick, Guns and Roses, Poison, Chuck Barry, and of course the late greats Roy Orbison, George Harrison, DEAN MARTIN AND FRANKIE "OLD BLUE EYES" SINATRA.

Cynthetiq 02-02-2004 01:58 PM

Oingo Boingo

I'll see the past two mentions of Soul Coughing and raise them a Ben Folds Five and Luscious Jackson. All three broke up in the same year. That sucked.

gorilla 02-03-2004 02:56 PM
