I can't do my own song people! Someone step up!
|
I can't find it... have a link?
|
The Red Chord - Dreaming in Dog Years
Aaaah! Chaos and Cookie Monster vocals! The vocals immediately irked me, and this feeling did not pass. The song also didn't seem to flow well, it varied in structure throughout without any lead-ins to make sense of the changes. They've obviously got some level of talent with their instruments, but I just can't enjoy this. Travis Morrison - The Word Cop Free and legal mp3 can be found here: http://www.travismorrison.com/ |
Yea, I'll start linking some of these since they are kinda hard to find sometimes.
Hahah yea, that Red Chord song makes no sense musically, but it is fucking great if you like that kind of music. They are extremely talented musicians, but it is a niche audience. I saw them last week and they were didn't fail to impress. On to Travis Morrison - The Word Cop Interesting song, Kinda sounds like hippy rock-n-roll. I didn't have to listen to it twice, but I was trying to zero in on the lyrics. It is like a political jam or something. Censorship issues etc. I'm not real sure. Haha, oh man. Definetly hippy rock-n-roll, but hey, it has it's audience. Not a bad song musically, upbeat and stuff, sounds good. Yarg. The Black Dahlia Murder - Funeral Thirst http://www.soundclick.com/util/strea...ID=803279&q=Hi Link works for me, not sure if it will for everyone. I would post a more obsure and better BDM song, but this one has a link, and.. yea. |
i'm going to go out on a limb here and say that chingal0 is a metalhead... ;-)
oddly enough "funeral thirst" was next on my playlist when i read the previous post. while BDM obviously rawk, i can only handle them in small doses. i like a bit more dynamic contrast in my metal, but then again i like heavy and fast. good stuff from such a young band (kinda funny that they look more like pasty and soft band nerds than members of a death metal band). anyway, sweet pick here's mine: The Black Keys - Busted |
The Black Keys - Busted: seemed more of a song fragment (or an undeveloped demo) than an actual song to me. I liked the dirty blues riffage and the old school blues vocal sound, but found the rhythm section a bit pedestrian: not bad, just nothing particularly interesting going on there. I would guess that live, this "song" is used as the basis for an extended blues jam, and if that guess is correct, it would be something Id like to hear.
next up: Deodato - Superstrut |
I'm gonna start this back up.
Deodato - Superstrut Nice jazzy feel. Starts out enjoyably this way and continues in the same vein, though this vein never gets old. The variations just keep coming and succeed wonderfully in keeping the song fresh and interesting for all nine minutes of it. Nice one, thanks. Next: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Me and Mia Downloadable, free and legal, here: http://www.lookoutrecords.com/sounds...hp3?bnd_id=355 The other songs available there are quality as well, some even better. |
So far I like the lead singer's voice, despite perhaps the slight unoriginality of it. Not exactly terribly innovative. However in this first mellow break the drum work is great, I'm quite impressed with it. This is pretty catchy. I would listen to it again. Nice upbeat feel. Reminds me of the kind of stuff I listened to incessantly a few years ago. Ooh, I like the reggae-ish guitars here. This is nice. Good stuff. Quite catchy and listenable. Thumbs up!
Next: Hopesfall - The Bending (can be found here: http://www.trustkill.com/multimedia/sounds/) |
Hopesfall - the bending
Not bad, its music that makes me want to dance heh, not a massive fan of overly shouty lyrics, i prefer to hear at least some of whats said, and i find shouting to come out as the same "sound" when in songs such as this, but the instrumental side of it i like, its moving and interesting. The song seems to flow well and progresses from strong/heavy to less so, if there was less shouting id look for some more ) Ill go for Aesop rock - no regrets, listen to the lyrics, and try not to count out his unique voice straight away, for some it takes a while to get used to :) |
Project 86 - The Spy Hunter

...now retrieving Aesop Rock - No Regrets will post shortly. |
Aesop Rock - No Regrets
beautiful song. The lady we might all think of as the sad desolate one, is, in fact, the one keeping true to her being, staying happy. Her dying line is great. Decent production, but it's the rhymes that shine through. Aesop has the unique quality of being fairly easy to understand.... I've always enjoyed Aesop Rock though never gone out of my way to own/download any. I will now. keeping on the underground hip hop with good lyrics (serious or not).. I'm forcing out (and again, listen to what he's saying... also interesting to point out that he does all his own production work): Cex - The Childhood of a Leader off the "Tall, Dark and Handcuffed" album |

the point of this thread is to listen to what the last person suggested, write a review of it, THEN you can suggest a song for someone else to review (at which point they can then post a suggestion). currently, the next song up is "The Childhood of a Leader" by the artist Cex. listen to that, post a review, then you can suggest whatever you want, and someone will do the same. ready, set, GO. |
wow PulpMind, darn hard to find that song.. link us up man :)
|
if you're on SlSk it shouldn't be too hard to find.. go into the "IDM" room (it's close to the top of the list) and do a search for the song in just the rooms you're in. that should get it.. I'm also on SlSk as PulpMind, so feel free to msg me for it =)
um, otherwise, I'll try to post it on a server.. |
Sorry, I didn't even know that my 1st post went through. I'll read more carefully next time.

First two listens, I wasn't particularly interested. I let it sit for a matter of days, and now, listening to it for a third day, I'm definitely liking it. The rapping is smooth, clear, and very catchy. The noises at the beginning are a little annoying, but really minimally so. The theme doesn't seem to be innovative, but its presentation seems fresh. Fourth listen...really catchy rapping. Liking the use of pictures in the lyrics. Good one, thanks. Next song: Brian Vander Ark - And Then You Went Away Verve Pipe lead singer, off his solo album "Resurrection" Got streaming for this one, but it's good streaming: http://www.myspace.com/brianvanderark |
eh thought it was kinda bland, boring and repetitive. not much progression vocally or musically since verve pipe. but he has a very distinct voice, and takes me back to the freshmen days :). kk next to switch it up a lot listen to the title track off of these guys' newest album.
next song: the blood brothers - burn piano island, burn the greatest lyrics ever, heres a link to them since i couldnt find anywhere to listen to the song itself. hope you like! http://www.lyricsdownload.com/blood-...rn-lyrics.html |
Whoa, I got a weird mental picture of that in my head, like a pink tropical island with a belly button, with a toucan and a red palm tree, all with cartoonish fire over it. Great lyrics! I think maybe it's talking about things seeming happy, but not being that way. At least that's how I deciphered it. I also got a mental sound of the song: extremely heavy, low, uncompressed guitar, lots of cymbals and yelling. I will have to investigate further.
Next song: Project 86 - Spy Hunter Go to http://www.pillartour.com/ and click the "next" button on the audio player to get to the stream. |
This is Spy Hunter song is pretty good. I love the metal tone on the guitar. It's got just the right balance of crunch and fuzz. The singer goes flat occasionally but overall, his style works well with the rest of the music. Good get drunk and break shit music.
I'm gonna go with something a little different. Next song is: "Can't Exist" - Joseph Arthur http://www.josepharthur.com |
Draconis
This song felt like a mix of emo and country... I'm not really good at classifying music though. The vocals were'nt really impressive but nice nevertheless. The beginning of the second chorus is a bit earlier than that of the first, which is an interesting effect. 6 of 10 Next: Distemper - acca |
Distemper - acca
Nice song but I can't figure out what he's saying. I love the start there.. mix of a few genres :) Like niethan, who gave this song, I'll give it a rating : 7/10 :) My turn Next : The Kings of Convenience - Cayman Islands |
The Kings of Convenience - Cayman Islands:
acoustic guitar sounds cool - that i liked quite a bit. may actually find the tab for it. the vocals i wasnt so keen on however. they sund too.. breathy or something. i don't really know how to explain it but the detract from the song i feel. the strings later on sound really good though (i love strings in music). overall, 6.5/10, maybe a 7 if i was feeling a bit more generous. my song: Clann Zu - You are Listening to a Dead Man Speak Tip for finding this song: soulseek has copies of it. Tip for listening to the song: Headphones and playing it quite loud really make it powerful for me. I'd share it but i'm on a uni network and cant upload or use filesharing programs.. |

Oh haha , thanks niethan for clearing that out
really cool song though :) hope there wasn't any curse words in there.. :P |
REVIVAL!

Very nice. At different points, the vocalist reminded me of the lead singers of Tool, System of a Down (in a good way), and Interpol. The piano and violins provide a wonderful backing atmosphere. The only negative: I don't think much of the lyrics. They don't appeal to me. But the music is enough to keep this song worthwhile and then some. Good one. Next song: Stew - The Statue Song Warning: It's a mellow one. Can be found here: www.angelfire.com/mi4/jms/index.html |
Stew - Statue Song... Boring. I don't remember what I just did for the past six minutes. I thought about how hungry I was. Sorry, but this song just couldn't hold my attention. It was way too empty. It's not like it was empty just a little bit, no, it was empty for 5:41. Maybe I'm just not in the mood?
On Deck: Steve Vai - 'For the Love of God' |

Next up, something very different from my last rec: Hell is For Heroes - Night Vision www.angelfire.com/mi4/jms/index.html |

in retrospect it wasn't a good idea to use You're Listening To A Dead Man speak as an introduction to clann zu but then again if you ask me there's only one song ive never really liked by them. all the rest is pure gold. their sound changed quite a bit from the first album to the second (dead man is from the first) so you may want to check out something form their second album. i'd recommend From Bethlehem to Jenin or There Will Be No Morning Copy. Glad you liked it though. |

If you like Steve Vai, you should check out some of the shit he does. Fucking REDICULOUS guitarist. Check out 'So Happy' by Steve Vai. It's pretty weird and pretty creepy, but the fact that he can do something like it is pretty cool. Also, his rendition of 'Christmas Time Is Here' is the only christmas song I will EVER like. Ok, how about Pain of Salvation - 'The Perfect Element' Mind you, this is the song, not the album. I also recommend the short guitar solo track that leads into this song called 'Falling'. |
Silverchair - Tuna In The Brine
Asta!! |
You can't just DO that. You have to listen to my song and review it. That's why it's FORCED listening. :p

Appreciate the beat set up by drums.... oooh snaps! Vocal complement is nice too. And I still like the snaps. Reminds me alot of Guster, which I was just listening to! Pretty uppity song, with a mellow relaxed tone to it, which I like alot. Haha, the toys and effects at the end are great. I loved messing around with the shit in the percussion cabinet in High School. Good stuff.
Okay... Way more mainstream, but I know alot of people haven't bothered to listen to the new APC so: A Perfect Circle - 'Passive' |
Quote:
Next song: Animal Collective - Who Could Win a Rabbit? www.angelfire.com/mi4/jms/index.html |
Quote:
No doubt that APC hasn't been as good seince the first album, mostly because Paz left and she's hot, but I'll still give them love no matter what. Thats kind of funny too because I generally like most of Chevelle's stuff too. Anyways, Who Could Win a Rabbit?. Alright, so the background noise kind of bothered me, becuase it was really distracting from the guitar and melody and vocals, and it was just generally DISTRACTING. I really couldn't get around that. Even after multiple listens, I think the song would be WAY better off without all the wierd noise in the background, I just totally lost focus because of it. Next: Some fuckin' sweet jazz. Dave Weckl Band - 'Wake Up' off of the album 'Live (and very plugged in)' (looks like no one really wants to play this game, but I like it alot so fuck it, I'll keep doing it til FTA doesn't reply.) |
Works for me, either way.
Dave Weckl Band - Wake Up Nice jazz indeed. I've got this wierd attitude toward jazz; I tend to enjoy it every time I hear it, but I almost never seek it out. It's kinda like I consider it the very best background music I've ever heard (narrowly beating out the Stones), better than a fair amount of the music I do seek out, but I can't seem to give it a higher status than that. This selection is no different, meaning that I do enjoy it quite a bit, but I don't see myself searching for it on my playlist in the future. If it comes up in shuffle mode, I'll likely not skip it. Good one. Next up: The Go! Team - Everyone's a VIP to Someone www.angelfire.com/mi4/jms/index.html |
The link didnt work for me but Thanks to Kazaa i found it. I liked this song, the style was... to me... a little like the Cure on Zoloft or something. I will investigate this band some more.
Next Song.... Unreaddable Communication by Curve. Cant find anything to make a link work but it can be easily found with almost any P2P site. |
