Like A G6, by Far East Movement

I came across this song completely by accident, thought it sounded "new", decided to did a little digging, (five min. worth) and came up finding the music video that accompanies the party track.

Far East Movement - Like A G6
(I'm not certain if YouTube will allow this to properly be playable once embedded, so just as a link)

additional note:
I think the song is good, if not a bit too repetitive, and nebulous in meaning, at times, but then you go ahead and think about it and say: don't think about it; it's a dance / rave mix. Have fun. Also listened to the track first before viewing / finding the music video, which is not all too special (save for the very attractive lady dj).

[Fixed the youtu.be link with what seems to be the official music video released by the band's own youtube page. Hopefully it will last for however long this thread remains relevant.]

Oh, man a reply. I don't get these too often, so really, thanks.
And it actually has some relevant content - you are an awesome new fellow, worried_monk.

Also, I just got through reading the above interview, so another thanks. I had little idea of this band's history and start (other than what I gleaned fro wikipedia some months ago, and then promoptly forgot about). I had originally assumed this was some underground band that catered to the local club/DJ scene in CA, and yes, I was right about that, but I wasn't expecting to hear about all the acts they've toured and collaborated with so far, and all within the past 2 years. [it's pretty extensive: Lady Gaga, N.E.R.D., Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, and the Black Eyed Peas, Lil Jon, etc.]

They've been a band for 8+ years and recordng music off-and-on since then, but within the past couple years, ever since they were featured on a Fast and the Furious soundtrack, they've gooten bigger and bigger exposure, and have finally joined a major record label because of it (they say the album will be released soon, so I'm guessing it's already out.)

This was my favorite quotable from the interview: (talking about the production of the music video/single for "Like A G6")
Quote:
HitTalk: It’s a great video, too, man, that’s a good look. Is it the Pontiac G6 you’re talking about, or what exactly is the G6?

Kev Nish: It’s actually not. People say that “yo is that a G6 Pontiac?” I’m glad that people are asking and wondering about it. It’s actually a private jet, but at the time we made the song, there was a G4 out and there was a G5, so we all thought “yo, what’s the next level of fly? If you’re that fly, then you’re a G6; you’re [on] a private jet that ain’t even released yet.” And now we hear that Gulfstream put out a Gulfstream 650, which would be a G6.

Haha, when im2smrt4u and I first heard this song, we had to look up what a G6 was. Made sooo much more sense after that.

We'll see how long that one lasts.

I'm not sure how I feel about the song - I've heard it a few too many times on the radio since it was #1 for a while and got endless airplay. It's also ridiculously repetitive and I didn't know what a G6 is.

That said, I think I like the song more than I dislike it, because the beat is fantastic, and I love the way the lady says blizzard/slizzard?

The word is indeed slizzard, whatever that may mean (smacked, drunk, stumbling-down intoxicated, but in a fun way?) They use the word in the interview posted by worried_monk, so I think I understand its context.

That aside, and even though I've only watched the video twice (three months ago) I much prefer how the lady dj looks, but I also like her voice, being that is very sexy & hypnotic.

Hm. I didn't know this. A music video called "Booty Bounce"? How can this go wrong?

It can go wrong... or at least considerably less right then the above video.

YouTube - Dev - Booty Bounce!

When I finally looked up the G6 thing all these songs started making much more sense to me as well.(It's used all over the place.) The other thing I ended up looking up was the 808 which references the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_TR-808 the first drum machine they used to make songs like this.

When I heard this song on the radio I was like how did this shit really get published. It's like some high school freshman had to make a song using a synth and he ran out of creativity after the first line lol. The beat behind the chorus of the song is so overused.

That being said, if it had less G6 chorus and more of the rest of the song I could probably get into it more.

I'm addicted to this damn song now.. I bought it on iTunes and created a Pandora station with it as the seed.. it's catchy. I'm curious what is similar about the songs Pandora is feeding me based on this song, but I suspect it has a lot to do with the synth and the largely meaningless lyrics - my favorites.

EdIT: Fuck. I listened to Booty Bounce and now it's stuck in my head too..

The girl doin' all the talkin' on the track's got her own disc out.

I checked a video out...kind of a cross between Avril, P!nk, Britney and Gaga...maybe a little Willow Smith, too...which is a lotta crosses! Kinda hot once you get past the makeup...:-S

See what you think...
