Seems like this one is dying out. New topic?
Top 5 Ballads Let me define "ballad". I don't mean this in the contemporary pop music sense. I mean this in the traditional music sense. A Ballad (for the purposes of this thread) is a song that tells a story of a specific story or event. Ballads are very common in traditional Irish music as well as Country. I'll wait to post mine, but if there is any confusion on this one, I'll jump right in. |
Top 5 Covers
1. Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night? 2. Audioslave - Seven Nation Army 3. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Fire 4. Cake - I Will Survive 5. Pearl Jam - Last Kiss Top 5 Ballads 1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Tearjerker 2. Everclear - Heroin Girl 3. Hoobastank - Running Away 4. Red Hot Chili Peppers - I Could Have Lied 5. Bob Dylan - Hurricane |
Top 5 Ballads:
1 - "A Boy Named Sue", Johnny Cash 2 - "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", Gordon Lightfoot (been thinking of doing a speed metal version of this, as suggested by Mimi of the "Drew Carey Show") 3 - "One Piece At A Time", Johnny Cash 4 - "Last Kiss", Pearl Jam version (forgot who did the original) 5 - "Mary Jane's Last Dance", Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers |

Bob Biter has the closest idea to what I was talking about.
Here is mine: - The Wind that Shakes the Barley (traditional, performed by Dead Can Dance) - Whiskey in the Jar (traditional, peformed by Metallica/Thin Lizzy) - Highway Patrolmen (by Bruce Springsteen, performed by Johnny Cash) - Streets of Laredo (traditional, peformed by Johnny Cash) - Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner (by Warren Zevon) See, songs about a specific person and their story. Some of the songs you guys listed are more ballad in the sense that they are slower and more contemplative than that bands normal stuff. |

Ballad In Plain D - Bob Dylan (but I prefer the version by Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls) 4. The Drinking Song - Moxy Fruvous 5. Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits (again, I prefer the IG version) |
