Just curious what you all have for sound at home?

I am currently runing a pair of cerwin-vega e-715's (15" 5-1/4" 1" tweet) off a mackie 1400 power amp. Neighbors hate me sometimes ;)

Logitech Z-640's connected to my Audigy 2 soundcard. It may be a computer system, but it's the best one out there and really piss off the neighbors. Plus it's a 500-watt system that was less than 300 bucks.

Home - Technics stereo system with two 12" Cerwin Vega's

Car - Kenwood CD Deck, two 12" Kaption Audio woofers in my trunk (500watts per sub).

Shitty ass 250 watt amp now....Lookin to upgrade to a 1000 watt Ample Audio competition amp. Little bit too much power though.

I'm really happy with my setup. Only 60 watts/channel, but with a good high-current amp and efficient speakers, that's enough to knock pictures off the walls. :)

I just moved to an apartment so I had to leave the rest of my little theater behind, but took the essentials for parties etc.

My amplifier is an old Yamaha that my grandfather was using. Its about 25 years old. I dont know the model (sorry, Im at school), but it sounds pretty damn good, and I didnt have a need for a new receiver. It is driving a pair of Boston VR940s. I have a Cerwin Vega 10" subwoofer for when I move to a home theatre setup when I move into an apartment (got a good deal on that one), but I dont run it, the speakers hold their own just fine.

Holy crap, is owning Cerwin-Vega speakers some kind of requirement to join this forum that I overlooked? :)

I had a set of their 5x7's in my car for a while.. Mid/high sounded good but they had no and I mean NO bass response whatsoever. Which is strange, because I understand they generally have a reputation for going pretty heavy on the bass.

sailor420-- Old audio equipment is the best! I originally bought a brand new harman/kardon receiver, but it was a cheap feeling Chinese piece of junk, plus it had clearly audible background hiss. I sold it to my dad (it died a few months afterward) and bought my current one on eBay.. It is from 1988, before they got cheap. It is far better. My second stereo runs off a Marantz 2245 receiver from 1974--it's almost 30 years old and I crank it up every day.

If you know what to look for, you can make a really kickass stereo for cheap from eBay and scrounging around thrift shops..

i got this dell 6 speaker surround thing on my comp with 2 10's on my sub woofer

A basic Kenwood reciever setup. 500 Watts. Only still have the sub and reciever from that. Someone gave me two free speakers a while back. They're "Peavey" speakers which I've never heard of, but my dad says that they use these at his work when doing sound in movies and such. They sound pretty good and piss the people across the street off, so good enough for me. Especially when it's all crammed into my little room.

Receiver: old sony something or other... I've had it for like 8 years, and it hasn't failed me yet. Works like a charm with the whole mismatched mess of a setup. :D

I made my own stereo amplifier 60 Watts RMS at 8 Ohms It has a real good signal/noise ratio. For input I use a Sony CD player or PS2. I have a set of 2-way speakers from Accoustic Energy , type: AEGIS EVO 1

I just have logitech Z-560s connected to my PC. Use them for movies and music. Do a nice enough job. Connected to a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

Got to agree with you there. I love the amplifier. Some of the pots were dirty because they hadnt been used in about 10 years, but once clean, it sounds better than any of the recievers in the $500 range I was looking at before I decided to just use this one. Plus, I didnt have to pay for it. No remote, but Ill live.

3) a 200 disc carousel for my hardware CD player that is almost never used as most of my music is on my server in the ape/flac format.

my main speakers are a 5.1 setup on the sony, and I have something like 14 speakers all together with both of my workstations added to those.

the best sounding mixer in the DJ business... next to maybe the Allen & Heath Xone:V6 (all analog, vaacuum tube technology, about $5K), or some Ranes... I know many a hi-fi soundsystem in these parts that refuses to allow DJs to use anything less than the Xone:62 , so as to maintain the highest possible sound quality..

yeah round here the pioneer DJM-500/600 is the one that everyone owns.

i´m such a noob when it comes to sound systems and such...

i´ve just figured out its a great idea to plug the sound system into the computer, so that illegally downloaded mp3s sound better.

i have an old Yamaha sound system with decent speakers... but i don´t really know what kind of sound card i have...

2 Sony Floor Speakers with like 2" tweets, 5 1/4 mains and 6" subs. connected to a sony amp, not sure on the waatage, but its gotta be pretty alot since i cant turn the bass up like, at all or it gets rediculously boomy, i got the amp for free, so hey, its a good buy, its an old school silver amp with the pushbuttons and knob tuner, not sure the technical names for all that, im a newbie when it comes to audio

My computer:
5.1 dolby digital caimbridge soundworks speakers. again, not sure on the wattage, but i cant turn the sub up very high because it gets insanely bassy. hooked to a 24bit soundblaster extigy.

My Car:
A stock 6x9, probably like 20 watts max, hooked up to a blown am only pushbutton old school deck (1974 buick) well, actually we are using a little boombox for sound now.

Whatever:
I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD500 Headphones, omfg i love them, they arent no cheap ass headphones either. 100 bucks at your local magnolia hi-fi. Used in gaming, and sudios alot

I would LOVE to be able to afford an A&H or a Rane. The pioneers are pretty wide used around here too but im not the biggest fan of them... Next one I buy for home will probably be vestax. 275 maybe...

Main system...

Two Yamaha floor standing speakers (used for fronts Left and Right), one Bose center channel speaker (Center channel), Set of Bose bookshelf speakers (used for rears), and a JBL 15 inch woofer. Everything is wired to a Oneyko 5.1 reciever.

Was using a denon dcm370 cd player until an unfortunate accident.

Now I use a sima Imix Digital Audio Recorder. It's crappy, but a stop-gap solution til I can afford a NAD 541i.

^^ yeah the Pioneers were the first that really had everything we, uh, DJs, needed... they'd be great mixers if it weren't for the sub-par sound quality and a few shotty components =P

last night I got to play on the Xone:464 *spazm... similar to the one above, but with a 4 channel input mixer attached, and a slew of other bells & whistles *grin..

Hey, I love music. I tried the whole receiver thing, but just didnt get enough. I now own separates by Theta, Classe, and am considering replacing my speakers with something by JMLab. If you love your music, take a Saturday afternoon and head out to one of those cool audio shops. If they treat you like you're second class, leave and go to the next one. You'll find one that is interested in sharing audio knowledge with you, and who can construct a pathway for you to get more out of your music. Or a pathway for you to get closer to your music.

I only have my PC to play music.
I have an Audigy Card, and I use UBLPro Speakers.
I'm sure they aren't perfect or anything, but they sound really good, they have good bass, and they can go really loud.
I'm quite happy with them

I make up for car having like two working speakers with the computer and game systems set up to 10 Kenwood 4" 6 Kenwood 6" an 8" sub and just the system setup. but for Christmas i getting two 15" subs... why, becuase my neighbors are assholes.

I dont know, Ive never really understood the point of spending a lot of money on a car stereo. One doesnt (usually) spend a lot of time in there, and it isnt the most acoustically-agreeable space, so I dont really understand sinking a lot of money into it.

For my computer, I just have a small amp driving some old no name speakers. Ironically, it sounds better than the cheaper 2.1 speaker sets.
