My Elegy!
 

In the past month or so I've been re-introduced to one of my favorite musical genres, one which I had given up for dead: Punk. I was weened on skateboards, Dead Kennedys, Green Day, Skankin' Pickle, etc. etc. All was well with our little subculture until the mid-nineties, when Pop culture decided Punk was the next big thing and proceeded to ass-rape the scene with all the glee of a necrophiliac left alone at the morgue. Well I did what any respectable punk kid would do, I said fuck you to the scene and got a job! :)

Anyways, a buddy of mine gave me a bunch of music from AFI recently, and I'm not ashamed to say that I'm completely blown away. Now I know exactly what I'm setting myself up for with this. I'm sure there are millions of people who have been digging AFI for years and years, and you may or may not appreciate a noob fan joining your ranks. I completely understand (cuz I'm somewhat the same way), and all I can say is that I'm envious you've been rocking out while I've wandered in a haze of MTV induced haze for the past 6 years.

Having said that, FUCK these guys are fucking good! So good that I just had to let complete strangers know about it. Har! Life in the hood.

Death of Season

Of late, it's harder just to go outside
To leave this deadspace with hatred, so alive
Writhing with sickness, thrown into banality, I decay
Killed by the weakness, but forced to return, turn it off

I watch the stars as they fall from the sky
I held a fallen star and it wept for me, dying
I feel the fallen stars encircle me now, as they cry

Out there so quickly grows malignant tribes
Posthuman extinction excels unrecognized
Feeling surrounded, so bored with mortality, I decay
All of this hatred is fuking real, turn it on... yeah

It won't be all right despite what they say
Just watch the stars tonight as they, as they disappear, disintegrate
And I disintegrate 'cause this hate is fuking real
And I hope to shade the world as stars go out and I disintegrate
