What "legends" have you always wanted to see live?
I was just thinking the other day about how Johnny Cash is gone, and I would have loved to have seen him just a few years ago when he was still touring, and now I've missed the chance.
I live in NYC and so many legendary artists come through here, and still I don't make it to their shows. I thought I'd compile a list of "legends" that are still alive, and that I'd love to see live, should I have the opportunity. Please add your own. Les Paul - plays every Monday night at The Iridium Ray Charles (I read he recently cancelled a tour) Oscar Peterson Dave Brubeck Simon & Garfunkel (although I just can't afford it) Jeff Beck Stevie Wonder B.B. King |
pink floyd
led zeppelin soundgarden, almost did back in 1996 one of the last concerts (perth) before they broke up! Alice in chains the beatles |
I always wanted to see the kings of deathpunk TURBONEGRO playing live. Then they stopped playing because the vocalist hank von helvete had a heroin-fueled breakdown. But then they got back together, made a fucking brilliand record (scandinavian leather) and I could see them at Roskilde Festival!!!
And it was the best consert ever. (exept maybe Björk but whatver) hooray! |
Pink Floyd
Paul Simon Vangelis Jean Michel Jarre Mike Oldfield Mike Batt |
I've always regretted not seeing Queen. Freddy Mercury was a great performer. I would love to see Ray Charles, but I'm not sure if he is performing anymore.
|
Garth Brooks hands down no question.

I echo yours and Arc's sentiments about Queen. I saw Brian May (guitarist) solo in 1992 and it was a great concert but not the same. I wish I had seen Tina Turner before she did her final tour. I heard she put on an absolutely unbelievable show. |

Andres Segovia. Without him, none of your favorite guitarists would ever have even thought to pick up a guitar, because it would still be looked down upon as a lowly peasant instrument.
 |
Led Zeppelin
The Eagles Van Halen |
rage against the machine
|
the stooges.
i've seen iggy a few times & he throws a hell of a show, but he got the old drummer & guitarist back & brought on mike watt (firehose, minutemen) to fill in for the dead bass player. by all accounts i've read, the show in detroit was awesome. hopefully that'll encourage them to do more........ |
Jimi Hendrix, Zeppelin, CSNY, SRV, maybe Simon and Garfunkel. Maybe the Eagles, too. Oh, and Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, and several other Jazz greats.

I actually got to live this out last year. I've always loved Styx, and I got to see them a while ago live.
But not to break up the thread, I'd still like to see The Rolling Stones. |
Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. That's about it. I'd pay infinitely more to see Zep than the Beatles, but I'd absolutely love to have been able to see both live, at the height of their careers.
|
man, i must have been on crack when I wrote that. One of my friends made the announcement tonight at dinner that she never saw the movie "Almost Famous" so we were forced to rent it and make her watch it with us tonight. This jogged my memory of so many other bands that I would have loved to see, like Simon and Garfunkel, The Who, Lynrd Skynyrd, and The Allman Brothers. This movie got me thinking about all those groups that my parents grew up with that I missed out on and it's putting me on this huge 60's and 70's kick now. Damn the man! hehe, j/k.

Old, old thread...but I was thinking of posting something similar, so I'll just dig this one up instead :)
I'd love to see Fleetwood Mac...they were touring when I was in high school, but my parents didn't want me to go (I later found out that my mom wanted to go, but didn't want me hanging around all the "druggies." O...kay.) I'd also very much like to see Tom Petty and Jimmy Buffet. I caught the Eagles on the Hell Freezes Over tour, but hopefully I can see them again on one of their "farewell" tours. |
Nirvana... wish I coulda been at Unplugged

Others would be: Jimi Hendrix Bob Marley Frank Sinatra |
I saw him in concert when I was like four or so, but I don't really remember it, so I'd like to see Michael Jackson live. Though unfortunately, that'll probably never happen again since it'll be very hard for him to regain any kind of status in the music industry again :(
