Trying to find Classic Rock Instrumental Song

I'm trying to find a classic rock song that is only instruments. The song that comes closest to it is Allman Brothers - Ramblin Man, in terms of the instrumentals. It's about 5-6 minutes long, any ideas? Very southerny country feeling I'd say.

K-Wise 09-29-2003 07:00 PM

Hmm not ONLY instruments (mostly) but you should check out Fire On High by Electric Light Orchestra it's pretty nice. I'll upload it for ya.

Fire On High

Asta!!

dylanmarsh 10-01-2003 12:04 AM

Hmmmmm. You may want to check out the many surf bands of the 60's or even Herb Alpert. I know Herb deviated a bit from his regular stuff.

Where did you hear it?

ohw0w 10-01-2003 03:14 AM

... the radio, classic rock station, so it is more mainstream.

Redlemon 10-01-2003 05:36 AM

I probably won't have the answer for you, but I have some good leading questions...

.. instrumentation? How many guitars? Any strings/odd percussion/etc?

...tempo? Can you approximate the BPM?

(and K-Wise, I LOVE Fire on High, especially the introduction)

cj2112 10-01-2003 06:09 AM

Yyz by Rush is one of the best instrumental rock songs I've ever heard. I don't think that's what you're looking for though.

I think I might be looking for the name of the same song. If it's not "Jessica" by the Allmans, then it might be my mystery song. I have it on tape somewhere that I taped off a radio back around 1991, I recently found it and called every classic rock station in the area AND in New York, all the DJ's I talked to and played it for were stumped. They all agreed that it was either the Allmans or Skynyrd. I'll try to upload a sample and see if any of you know what it is...

Green Onions - Booker T and the MG's???

yournamehere 10-01-2003 07:22 AM

Are you thinking of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." ?

That's a pretty classic instrumental Allman Brothers song

Edited laterGot 'em confused - I was thinking of "Jessica" - not
"In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

"IMOER" is a lot slower.

quadro2000 10-01-2003 07:48 AM

My guess is that you're thinking of "Jessica" by the Allmans. Let us know if we're right. Unfortunately I can't find a sample at the moment...

Master "what song is this" list?

Like several other folks in this forum, I've got a lyric in my head that's bugging the hell out of me, but I don't know the name of the song. To avoid forumjacking, can I suggest this become the place to go when you need help identifying a song.

Hell, it might even be a fun place to start a game of "name that tune"!

Anyway, the song I'm hammering my head against the wall trying to figure out (then expel) is a dance number that has a repeating chorus which goes "ring-a-ling-a-ling ding dong" and (natch) deals with the phone. Heard it in Mexico by the pool every damned day and it won't leave - no matter what I do!

Anyone know the song & artist?

costello 10-01-2003 12:06 PM

is it that annoying "who put the bop in the bop she bop she bob who put the lam in the ram a lamma ding dong" song?

ohw0w 10-01-2003 03:21 PM

Jessica it is... noyce.

ForgottenKnight 10-01-2003 04:33 PM

The only Mexican song I can think of is Las Ketchup - Asereje, also known as The Ketchup Song, but I don't think that's the song you're looking for....

Nope. This one's more current. It would have come out in the past year or so - and I'm pretty sure the lyrics were in English, not Spanish. "Who put the bomp" was a 50s tune.

Whats this song... Again!

Ok, I dont expect this one to be too hard for you wonderful people. The chorus goes:

I've got us on the highway,
I've got us in the car,
I've got us going faster than we've ever gone before.

Or something like that. The singer (male) says the above really gently & soft.

Anyone know the song???

Thanks.

P.s. Ive been thinking about that "Asta" thing for a while & I think I'd like to put one at the end of a post so here goes...

ohw0w I'm glad you found the tune you were lookin for, I was gonna say "Jessica" right away too after reading your description but MikeyChalupa beat me to the punch! :D

So now I'm tryin to remember what this original tune is, that Jennifer Lopez sampled in the intro to Jenny From the Block:

Children grow and
Women Produce and
Some go workin
Some go stealin
Ev'ryone's got to make a livin...

IT'S KILLIN ME!!! I gotta get that tune out of my damn head!!!!! This is a bad guess but I'm thinkin it's Marvin Gaye or Al Green, or the Isley Brothers but probably not. I think maybe Diana Ross used it at some point too. It's been sampled a few times.

Can anyone help me out here???

What is the song in that new Hummer commercial where the kid makes a hummer style go cart and drive down the hill?

seizei 10-08-2003 10:52 PM

This has been bugging me for weeks now. We have satellite music stations at work, but no TV output. Therefore I can't check to see what the song and artist names are.

On the Adult Alternative station, a song comes on once in awhile that is soooooooooo cool... we all love it but have no idea who it is.

It's a female singer, and sounds kinda jazzy/bluesy.

Here are some snippets of lyrics:

If you cut a man's heart out, it will bleed (repeated, main line for song)

...don't freeze up... don't emotionally - seize up...

Just don't forget, it's worth the risk (song ends with that line)

not much to go on, but I HOPE someone can recognize it.

thanks

Thanks! But I was talkin bout the very beginning vocal part -- and i just figured out what it is: "Heaven & Hell is on Earth" from the 20th Century Steel Band. Obscure as hell, right? they played the original on the radio the other day...it's been sampled by a few different artists too, & I was probably originally thinking of an older popular track that used that sample...

man i must have spent hours searching for that tune!!

ps South Bronx from Boogie Down Productions was also sampled in Jenny from the Block

I'm looking for a song, a line of the chorus is "Do I go to the Supermarket, Do I go to the grocery store?"
I've looked on kazaa with 'supermarket' as the search term with no luck.

Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?

-----------
Edit: Found it. It's 'Too High for the Supermarket' by Uninvited

Quote:

Got the craving for some lunch,
but I ain't got nothing to munch
My mind is set on just one wish
a big ol' sandwich - tuna fish
Time to make a grocery run,
I'll walk there in the morning sun
Make a list of what I need most:
Tuna fish and bread (for toast)
And though my stomach may be empty,
I'll feed my head from the horn of plenty
Roll a joint Bob Marley style
and smoke it 'till it makes me smile

Starting off in aisle one,
fruits and veggies by the ton
Hey check it out, raddiccio!
These red leaves, man, they almost glow!
And bok choy! I've always wanted to try it,
I wonder if I have enough to buy it?

It's grown in Japan, or maybe China,
or maybe some farm in South Carolina?
Just then I hear a voice in my head:
"stay focused, man, tuna & bread,"
But right now I'm in produce bliss
Oh man, I'm too high for this

Too high for the supermarket,
too high for the grocery store
Too high for the supermarket,
ain't gonna shop like this no more

(Everyone in here is staring at me...)

Sixteen different brands of tuna,
Chicken of the Sea or Big Kahuna
Packed in oil, packed in water,
dolphin friendly, dolphin slaughtered
And oh God, what about the bread?
Should I get white or wheat instead?
Or... rye! Rye's the best I've tasted
Rye is best when ever you're wasted!

Too high for the supermarket,
too high for the grocery store
too high for the supermarket
ain't gonna shop like this no more

Finally done, its check-out time,
searching for the shortest line
The Express Lane! But they don't take checks..
and you've got to have ten items or less,

so let's see...
Ding Dongs, a bag of chips,
Cap'n Crunch and some onion dip,
(it's sugar and salt, space and schism,
the yin and yang of munchie Taoism)
I got my favorite beer, Carlinger,
and pre-sweetened Kool-Aid you eat with your finger

(You lick your finger, then you stick it in the bag, then your stick it down your throat but not too far or you gag)

That's less than ten! Check me out, go ahead!
Oh, I forgot the tuna and the bread...

Too high for the supermarket,
too high for the grocery store
too high for the supermarket,
ain't gonna shop like this no more

too high (too high!)
too high (too high!)
way too high for the supermarket, yeah
In my defense "Too high for..." DOES sound like "Do I go to..."
especially since I had only previously heard the song in a loud and crowded bar...

Probaby not it, but The Clash?
Quote:

CHORUS
I'm all lost in the supermarket
I can no longer shop happily
I came in here for that special offer
A guaranteed personality

I wasn't born so much as I fell out
Nobody seemed to notice me
We had a hedge back home in the suburbs
Over which I never could see

I heard the people who lived on the ceiling
Scream and fight most scarily
Hearing that noise was my first ever feeling
That's how it's been all around me

CHORUS

I'm all tuned in, I see all the programmes
I save coupons from packets of tea
I've got my giant hit discoteque album
I empty a bottle and I feel a bit free

The kids in the halls and the pipes in the walls
Make me noises for company
Long distance callers make long distance calls
And the silence makes me lonely

CHORUS

And it's not hear
It disappear
I'm all lost

the song is "This mortal coil - song to the siren"
this song is creepy in a way...it gives me the chills.

I'm looking for the song that gets played when you Spank The Monkey really fast in this game:

(Don't worry, it's SFW).

To get to the right point, just grab the hand and slide the mouse across the screen as fast as possible. You'll know you did it when the words go Pinkish and a new song plays.. THAT'S the song I want. It's right at the tip of my tounge, but I can't figure it out... and it's driving me nuts. I think it's like early 90s rap, but can't be sure.

Although the beat is originally Chic's, the Spank the Monkey sample is from

Grandmaster Flash -- The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel (yes that is the name of the song)

You can tell because of the scratching -- the Sugarhill Gang actually had Chic come in to play the beat for them -- no records or mixing was involved.

You can also tell because, right at the end, there's a drum beat from Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band -- Apache.

Nice catch lordjeebus! It was killin me, I couldn't find that exact sample but I knew I knew it well -- that Grandmaster Flash track's a classic too. That bassline's been used a whole lot -- although the 2 I mentioned are the most popular, that's definitely the Grandmaster Flash one.

TitleFight 12-20-2003 12:03 AM

Any country fans out there??

Well I heard this song on the radio for the first time on my way to work this morning...here's the jist:

It's a guy singing about going to a bar with his buddy. And instead of picking up hot chicks he's talkin' about how he's "going ugly early" or something...basically focusing his mackin' skills on the fat and ugly chicks at the bar. Well as it turns out he and his buddy end up talking to two ladies, one hot and not-so-hot, and the hot one picks him up and he overhears her say "I'm going ugly early tonight" or something along those lines. The song is absolutely hilarious but I can't remember the tune or the chorus.

Wow, not sure if that made any sense at all. Hopefully I can get some help with this one. I've emailed the station but haven't gotten a reply and also searched Kazaa with no luck so far.

Any suggestions?!

mystmarimatt 12-29-2003 11:59 PM

OK, so i was in the car today, and i heard part of one of those songs that was famous, like, when i was a lot younger, but never bought the albums for, and it's kind of the alternative, folkish rock style of the mid-90's, stuff like spin doctors, counting crows or sister hazel

i heard the end and i can recall the chorus saying "situation" and a final refrain that sounded like the "right time". i know i've heard it a long time ago, but now i've got nothing. anything can help, thanks guys.

It was funny. I was listening to that *very* song when the question was asked. LOL! How often does that happen in 2004?

its goes like;

And i run,i run so far all day

Hi I heard a song a while ago on the local classic rock station and have been trying to find the name of it...

All I can remember is that the word "saxophone" is the last word in one of the lines of the chorus. I can hum the tune too, but I don't suppose that would be of help to any of you? I thought it sounded like Van Morrison, but apparently it's not. My memory of the vocals are a little fuzzy. Any help is appreciated!

Phaenx 01-06-2004 10:52 PM

I need help finding a song. It's played usually for Bam Margera on Jackass (most recently a commercial for his new show). It's hard to put my thumb on what kind of music it is, probably a mix of alternative and grunge I suppose (which narrows it down to most everything they play on said show, sorry). There is a lizzy distortion in the first part of the song though, so maybe that helps if you know what that is.

Anyways, if you can help me out let me know.

Phaenx 01-09-2004 05:11 PM

Found out it was a song by Turbonegro. Not sure which one though.

NEW SONG REQUEST

i was wondering if anyone knows the name of the Screeching Weasel song in the movie "highway" starring jared leto, jake gyllenhall, and selma blaire...

the credits say it's screeching weasel - "i wanna be a homosexual" but its not "i wanna be a homosexual"...

the lyrics go something liek

"the you look at me
the way i look at you the same"

then it's like kinda fast rambling until you hear

"i'm not fucked up
i've been fucked up
im not fucked up yet
im not fucked up yet
im not fucked up yet
no fucking way"

ps. im sure its schreeching weasel... but it could be the queers

holtmate 01-10-2004 09:03 PM

All right...I'll try this here.
I'm trying to find the original version of the song that the Freestylers basically remake as "Drop the Boom". It's from the skating parties I remember in grade school. It's got the robot-like voice, and I can't think of the original title.

irateplatypus 01-14-2004 07:36 PM

hey all... about my previous post about an REM song.

It is called "Stand"

what a relief to finally figure this out. thanks for all the help.

Call me Deacon Blues "

Looking for a song called All Night Long. You've heard it on the GTA Vice City OST... sung by the Mary Jane Girls. There is another version out there which is longer and only sung by 1 girl, any ideas who it is?

Oh yeah. I like the 'Live in SF' version best.

I'm looking for one that I heard for a while on the radio, and then it dropped off the face of the earth. It's country. Here's a small part I can remember:

'...I walked up, and asked her for a dance
"That's good" (in background)
No, that's bad,
'cause I tripped and knocked the drink right out of her hand..."

Redjake 02-08-2004 07:23 PM

I've been looking for a song for about 4 years now, I remember it from a while back, but I don't know the name. It was alternative/rock, and it had the chorus "what are you deaf and stupid, she said no" in it. the guy really stressed "no." he said "nooooooo." and I can't find this damn song. the lyrics I suggest may not be the exact lyrics, I've tried lyric search engines and have scoured google for it, but nothing comes up. ANYONE who can find this song, you get ONE TRILLION cool points.

Prince 02-13-2004 02:29 PM

Whose song and what is it called, the one with something about a "mrs robinson" and "Jesus loves you more than you will know" or "I can say" or something?

I know it's not much to go on with but it is a popular song....an old one.

BoomTruck 02-14-2004 06:49 PM

Simon and Garfunkel- Mrs. Robinson.

It's Don't Stop the Rock, it's by the Freestylers as well, they remixed their own song.

CinnamonGirl 02-25-2004 06:58 AM

Newer song out-- goes something like "why don't you and I" ...and then something about taking on the world together? I know, that's really vague, but I've only heard it twice... it sounds like matchbox twenty, but I went through every lyric on the new album and couldn't find it...

"Why Don't You And I" by Santana featuring Chad Kroeger from Nickelback

Mojo_PeiPei 02-29-2004 07:57 PM

I'm looking for this song... lyrics aren't too telling chorus is "ohhh I want you". The thing that makes the song stand out is the guitar however. It has a George Harrison slide sound to it, really slow paced and melodic. Song is classic rock genre.

Ah, thank you. Why is it every (newish) Santana song is "featuring" someone else? Just trying to appeal to a younger crowd, I guess?

bigbad 03-01-2004 10:28 PM

Well, I hadn't heard of Santana until he started doing the "featuring" someone else, so if that was the plan it worked like a charm :)

My song was released approximately 1997, and got airplay on 'modern alternative rock' stations. The only thing I recall was the male vocalist, in the refrain, singing "get down on your motherf***ing knees", but the radio version was chop edited so it had a really neet "on your n-n-n-n-knees" effect. Any idea what this song was?

Hey I need the name of song, I hardly ever listen to rap and need it for a project but it is where the rap artist says, "Underage drinking is bad, Hey man! I got a fake ID!" Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Tophat665 03-11-2004 06:36 PM

Looking for a jazz standard, the one that containjs the line "so go do that voodoo that you do so well". It's the one that Harvey Korman quotes in Blazing saddles, and I know there have been a couple of commercials made with it. I need to title because this is one that I want to try to find a couple different versions of.

Okay, I'm trying to find this song from the David spade movie. It's the song he's singing when he's in the convertible and he changes the words and says something like "changing the words, but not changin the meaning." or something like that. I think it plays again sometime in the movie but don't remember.

Help, this is driving me nuts. It's not on the soundtrack, I already checked.

Thanks,
Jadey

Appears to be by Cole Porter:
"You Do Something to Me" has some history on it as well.
