i just noticed someone's avatar & it reminded me of one of my old favorites i've gotten away from.....tom waits!

the best barroom ballads i've ever heard.......i don't even booze anymore & they're some of my favorite songs.

then you get into his noisy, junkyard shit with mark ribot or keef richards on guitar. (rain dogs, swordfishtrombone)

the guy has a singular vision & sound and shows no sign of slowing down.

if you've spent anytime hunched over a bar, spilling yer guts to anyone who'll listen, til you're full of ragwater & blue ruin......do yourself a favor and pick up a tom waits cd. i haven't found a bad one yet.

I don't think I've heard enough of his to be considered a "Tom freak", but a definately like him. I have a live album (big time, I think?) Mule Variations and Beautiful Maladies. I like the song Strange Weather... I was having a rough time dealing with a previous girlfriend, and wrote the lyrics to that song in a notebook. She was snooping through my stuff and read it; I think that is when she realized I wasn't too happy with her...

He was in a Robert Altman movie, I can't remember the name, but he was pretty good in it.

I'm a huge fan. Loving his "Alice" CD at the moment. He's got a ton of great songs.. too many to list.

Recent fan here. I haven't heard of any of his older stuff, but I have his "Blood Money" and "Alice" double release. Pure dirty gold.
