Your First Guitar/Instrument

What was your first guitar or instrument or set or whatever!

Mine was my Fender Stratocaster... got it a month ago... I love it.... amazing guitar!

Jasmar 08-08-2003 12:19 PM

Ibanez g-10 bass

tj2001cobra 08-08-2003 12:38 PM

I got a Yamaha acoustic guitar when I was about 10. I didn't like it and it was huge (I was only 10). I kept it anyways and really started to enjoy it about 10 years after I got it.

I got a Fender Strat (American) when I was about 12 back in '86. I still have that guitar as well. I got a Takamina Electric Acoustic about 3 years ago. Man that guitar is easy to fret for being an acoustic.

Mael 08-08-2003 08:17 PM

my first instrument was a recorder in 3rd grade. then i started playing alto sax in 5th, bassoon in 6-7th, clarinet in 8-9th, tenor sax in 9th, barry sax in 10th, crappy begginer acoustic guitar at 18, got my crappy electric a couple years later, bass guitar a few years ago. i think i'm gonna actually buy a tenor sax in a month or two and join a jazz band. blah, i hate music.

CAN_skate 08-08-2003 09:12 PM

The Recorder! What a horrible instrument! I mean, c'mon, it's fucking plastic. Oh I'm glad I'm not back in grade school listening to 40 kids try to all play a song together on those things!

After that I moved on the Trombone(r). Now I just play the guitar. And, if I may say so myself, I play it very badly.

And I once taught myself to play piano.

YaWhateva 08-08-2003 10:14 PM

My First guitar was an ovation back when i was 13.

stonecurran 08-08-2003 11:04 PM

rideough 08-09-2003 03:34 AM

You guys got Strats as your first guitars!!!!...bastards.

I built my first electric...my first guitar was an "ANJO" acoustic when i was 10....i wish i still had it,it was real loud.

Now that i can do good setups i would love to have my "shitty" guitars back!

Spritebox 08-09-2003 12:18 PM

My first instrument was a flute. Played that fucker for 7 years. Then I got a guitar 5 years ago. Never actually played it, but just messed around. I just recently bought a grand piano and I'm having a good time with that.

tinfoil 08-09-2003 07:47 PM

My first bass was a lime green Series A bass. I still use it on occasion for the odd bit of punk I play every now and then.

agentsmith 08-09-2003 09:08 PM

my first instrument was a dinky little toy piano when I was like 5. My first guitar sucked beyond comprehension. I own significantly better equipment now though.

mingusfingers 08-09-2003 09:12 PM

Recorder, From about Grade two. Still have it, enjoy pulling it out every so often to piss people off :)

epiphone acoustic bargain buy from guitar ctr. pretty much a piece of crap, but it got me up & running!

anti fishstick 08-11-2003 10:09 AM

huh. my first instrument was a lil 3/4 size violin. then i moved to a full size. then i bought a real nice 1400 violin that came close to 3000 including case and bow... and it's sitting in the closet :( i've also gotten a harmonica, recorder, ukelele, and washburn d10 acoustic. i want a nylon string classical guitar but just don't know how often i'd ever pick it up..

fuelmyfire 08-11-2003 09:16 PM

a $125 red Westone electric

i still play it to this day (among my newer guitars, of course!)

shred_head 08-11-2003 09:52 PM

My first instrument was my mom's old Silvertone classical guitar. Yeah the Sear's brand guitars. Really easy to learn on classical guitars because they don't hurt your fingers at all. Then I got my first electric, a Washburn Lyon series strat-copy, about a year later. Then got my Yamaha Pacifica 912J probably a year and half after that and I've played that one almost exclusively for about 6+ years since then. And I also got a Takamine A/E for my 18th birthday, that's a nice sounding guitar, too bad I don't play it that much. Electric is just more fun for me.

strife 08-11-2003 10:06 PM

My first instrument was a trombone back in 5th grade, didn't last long. Last summer I got a Hamer EchoTone Hollowbody, in cherry red, it was fuckin beautiful. Also picked up a Fender Hot Rod deluxe amp along with, I loved the way it sounded. Sadly, I don't know how to play guitar at all, am tone deaf, and can't read music. So, on top of all that, I couldn't make rent last fall, and I had to pawn both the amp and guitar. *Shed tear* BUT! My girlfriend's brother said he might hook me a up with a bass guitar for free, and give me some technique books too! So, hopefully, I'll be able ot learn on that for a little while before he wants it back, if at all :).

HeadyIncognito 08-11-2003 10:25 PM

My first instrument was a rented squier p-bass... Now I've got a beauty of a Fender Jazz bass, but I'm not that good.

My first guitar was a classical, and personally I thought it was a pain in the ass to learn on. The strings were not only very far apart, they were also really high off the fretboard. Then I went to the opposite extreme. My brother loaned me a mini electric that was like 2 feet long.

Andric 08-12-2003 01:21 PM

First guitar was a Kay acoustic, then came a Fender Mustang. I don't have either anymore, and guess which one I wish I still had?

dj_simo 08-12-2003 02:27 PM

mantra 08-14-2003 06:10 AM

i play an Ibanez SDGR bass..

Thoraby 08-14-2003 08:59 AM

My first guitar was a Fender Stratocaster 68' reissue. These were made in Japan and are truly fine instruments. Mine has a natural finish on ash body, and a maple/maple neck and it simply feels amazing. I'm gonna drop a Duncan Custom Custom in bridge position and then it'll be my main axe :-)

Nooze2k 08-14-2003 09:34 PM

My first guitar was a red Vantage "fake-strat", which I got when I was 12. Funny enough had a real sweet humbucker for the bridge pickup. Cheap as hell guitar though, body was made of plywood! :P Played that for a couple years before I had saved enough money for my first "real" guitar, a 1985 US Fender Strat. Quite a difference.... still play the Strat as my main axe now, unaltered since then except for the gk2a hex pickup I installed so I could use it with my synth and vg-8 systems.

1973 08-15-2003 11:52 PM

Cort GB-34 bass.

Because bass is the monkey's guitar.
