"Todd Rungren - Bang on the drum". I barely understand the lyrics, but i will rock out when ever this comes on...and if they play it at a party or a bar and i have some booze in me...watch out because i will start to act a fool.

If I could find a machine that would take the vocals out of a CD, I would probably go back and buy some U2 albums. But that dreadful Bono, broomstick up my ass pressing against my hemorrhoids, voice is awful.

I don't listen to much *popular* music--only the stuff I have to that my husband plays, but Metallica...just doesn't sound good. They give me a headache.

I do hate them as well for their prissy attitude/lawsuits.

After reading over the replies again, I'd like to add Rush to my list. Tom Sawyer was about the only song I could ever tolerate by these guys, the rest are rat droppings!

Wow, I'm surprised at the strong feelings against Tool. They're my favorite band by far.

I guess it's like they said; "You either get it or you don't". I don't get a lot of the bands others seem to find brilliant. For example, I don't understand how Slipknot's screaming, pounding crap ever got thrown onto a CD, but I know there's rabid fans out there who would kick my ass for saying that. Go figure, huh?

I have three points to make:

1) Ditto, Creed sucks donkey dicks in hell

2) I wish ROD-COCKSUCKING-STEWART would drop off the face of the earth and take all recordings of himself with him.

3) As my name might indicate, I'm a huge /\/\etallic/-\ fan, but even I'm finding it hard to keep defending them. The napster thing was bad. I got a surge of relief with that MTV special that rocked, but then the album came out and the whole thing went to shit. I have no idea what they've been thinking for the last ten or so years. Whatever it is, it surely involves their money and lifestyle, not their music.

I do believe any band I would mention has already been mentioned in previous posts. Turn on the radio anywhere in the U.S., tune it to any given station and 90% of what you hear will be pure shit. Thanks, Clear Channel!

i would have said the white stripes too, cuz they suck ass, but that song 7 nation army i actually liked, so i dont bash them as much.... but it was nothing more than a catchy beat, they still suck

We are wasting our time here. If we actually managed to get people to stop listening to a band we didnt like. They would move onto another one. Then we would be in the same position we are now. I say let them have there shitty music. Without this crap who would we make fun of ?

as for my mine i would love it if people stop listening to boy bands. Its just complete an utter garbage. I am hesitant to even call it music.

Badly wrong, wrong, wrong, understandable but wrong, not quite, wrong, wrong, and incorrect.

Tool does seem to focus a bit too much on math, but they manage to make some great music nonetheless. Although Aenima was fairly mediocre.

Why does everyone seem so enthusiastic about hating other peoples' musical taste? Go listen to what you like and leave everyone else to do what they want. There's just one comment in this thread that I feel I need to directly address:

dave matthews--awful awful awful. however, dave and his lame, tired band with their standardized tired arrangements are not as foul as the crowd he draws.

jimmy buffet. but maybe not--he is what dave will turn into, and parrotheads are what his crowd will turn into once they have kids---so maybe they are linked, and buffet should simply be a constant warning--THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU STAY STUCK IN THE SAME CRAP FOR TOO LONG....

phish. they are not funny. but they **are** really good players. what makes them awful is the fact that they choose to suck because their audience demands nothing more from them.

all the reactionary jazz singers on the order of diana krall who put a pretty face on the kind of wynton marsalis project of turning the music into even more of a museum piece, making what was for a time and still in some quarters is an amazing exploratory music into something safer and safer as muzak to accompany rituals of social affirmation as they play out in overpriced restaraunts before uninformed, not listening pinhead members of the aspiring bourgeoisie...fuck them all...every last one of them...and ken burns and wynton marsalis and stanley crouch too.

however, what i really really hate is bluegrass. 1, 5...1, 5....1,5.....1,5..... for a little rhythmic adventure, let's get the bass player to slap the strings. ooo. tiresome chord structures, a bizarre reverence for copying the originals--which results in a musical culture of precision servility--of course within this sorry culture, folk pretend things are otherwise because they smoke weed and play, as if smoking weed in 2004 still constitutes an act of defiance---irritating vocals, the basic requirement for which is that you affect some south appalachin accent, restrict yourself to harmonies that come from some fantasy of authenticity which are for reasons i will never ever understand associated with the kind of churches that handle snakes and such, and sing songs that make a fetish of your dead mother and or advocate cringing in fear before some protestant god. bad taste in clothing, some bizarre imperative for bands to appear wearing uniforms made of fabric that reminds you of the wallpaper in some cheap diner---reactionary politics, stupid hats.

this is a good point but lots of the new mtv generation likes music because its a fad, and then they move on to the next "hot" thing out.

Music like that serves a social function. It's not worthless; it just happens to serve their needs and interests. Mabye I care about music that's "objectively good," but that's not a consideration for everyone. Perceived quality is often just a matter of taste.

Now, I might be wrong, and it might be possible to criticize certain music without criticizing someone's taste, but I don't think dissing certain bands is worth my time.
