I'm a big fan of both MC Chris and Front. You should also check out MC Hawking!

I think I have sampled quite a few tracks that fit the overall genre of "nerdcore", though I find it to be a more niche-oriented lyricism scope in certain songs. It doesn't have a canonical set of definitions, but it's really cool in any case. Come to think of it, I have a few albums that fit the genre well, but I think that underground rappers just are looking for new venues and topics to rhyme about, and adolescence is easy enough.

My contributions:

Also, the entire album of Deltron 3030 is great nonetheless, but also a great example of the stylings. To delve deeper, I could just about name any album produced, featuring, or created by Dan The Automator, Kool Keith, Prince Paul, Danger Mouse, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, and the ilk, and it will in some way incorporate this new urban sound creating waves.

flobots are NOT nerdcore, unless they have some albums I haven't heard. Handlebars is OK but the rest of there stuff I've heard just sounds like second-rate 90's pop rap.

I was taking lyrics into consideration, not necessarily the specific sound.

I'm a big Nerdcore fan, been listening to Frontalot, mc chris, Optimus Rhyme, MC Hawking, Badd Spellah (and all the folks he works with), MC Lars, etc for quite some time.

Rhymetorrents is a great place to check out if you're digging the Nerdcore.

To see if this topic can get any renewed interest after some bygone months, I'll be replying to re-spark a remembrance. I'm not sure if I have any better insight to how to accurately define the genre, or a particular band, group or artist, but it is still a fun foray into uncovering others' recommendations.

Also: here's my original playlist, re-tweaked but reloaded... (the links'll probably break within a month, with my luck)

1. Optimus Rhyme - Obey the Moderator
2. Aesop Rock - The Harbor is Yours
3. Gym Class Heroes - 3rd Period: New Friend Request
4. Deltron 3030 - Love Story
5. Cool Calm Pete - Get with the Times

track commentary... (keeping it terse)
1.) a title about bulletin boards, newsgroups and forums 2.) a hip-hop folk song about a pirate who encounters a mermaid 3.) maybe the least "nerdcore" track, though it still deals with adolescence, high school and myspace 4.) lyrical indulgence of the retro-futurism angle, interspersing talk of intergalactic travel and new ways to approach that lovely young one 5.) The most psychological tune, I think, as it examines different stages of life, diversions, and what occurs when you just allow time to slip by you, unnoticed.

Since I made this playlist around 3-4 years ago, it is kind of fun to seek it out again. Though, to be some sort of cynical, I think the only track that holds up as timeless (and endlessly-replayable) is "Love Story". Still, I hope you enjoy the earworms that I define as "nerdcore".

I thought this was an interesting site to find some more info and artists, but at the moment, it is under construction / being relocated.
