Wrap your ears around this
I don't remember how I found this, I thought it was linked from TFP, but I can't find it anywhere. So here it is for all my TFP friends.
---------- Post added at 11:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:44 AM ---------- In the interest of actually making this a conversation. Post your favorite cover and why you prefer it to others. I'm a Head-Banger at heart. So to hear a good cover done on an instrument not normally associated with Metal is just outstanding in my mind. To hear it done well is Nirvana. The only thing I've heard before seeing this that was remotely close to this level of cool, was the London Philharmonic doing Pink Floyd. So, post'em up! ---------- Post added at 11:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:05 AM ---------- This is another that steps out of genre and does it well. Pay attention to the drummer, this is awesome. |
Do you listen to the podcast Coverville? Three episodes a week, about 40 minutes each, all covers, with knowledgeable commentary between. I highly recommend it. I'll also be back in a day or so with some good metal covers for you.

This isn't a cover, it's more akin to a electronic genre re-fixing, but I believe it fits your initial premise (and in case no one saw it before, I have posted it previously).

Well, I can't go more than a month without reposting these guys. Sorry if you already saw them, but... Van Canto. Four male vocalists, one female vocalist, one drummer, all metal. They do lots of originals, but here are some of their covers:

While it's possible I've posted these elsewhere, they fit in here. I think these are good acoustic covers of metal/rock songs. The arrangements are interesting.
From the last video, check out this guy's YouTube channel. He has done a ton of covers: YouTube - Iggypres's Channel |
this is pretty self-explanatory and is also great...

Also, Pat Boone. I actually own this album. Very few people can listen to it the whole way through. I don't think he was joking when he put this album out, either.

I have that Pat Boone album as well. My wife refuses to let me play it. I also have Apocalyptica on my Ipod - stole it from my son's iTunes library... Here's another song my wife hates:
