Do you like Pandora?

Then you might just love Slacker Radio. Seems to have more control over how to add (or ban) artists and songs, and I've already "discovered" two more bands after only listening for under 2 hours. One of the reviews I read stated that they have about 3x more music than Pandora available. They offer a subscription service (about $50/yr), but so far the free version seems pretty great.

Oh, and I can play it on my Blackberry. Bonus!

Yeah, I've been trying to promote Grooveshark as of late as TFP's viable alternative to the sunken ship that was once seeqpod.

Thanks for the recommendation Push-Pull; I was thinking about asking what the main difference was between pandora.com and last.fm, because I have only used the former on the recommendation of pig, among others, too.

Well, after listening for about a month, I can now honestly say that Slacker just blows Pandora away. I'm getting a LOT more new music off of Slacker than I did with Pandora, and it's more geared to what I like and not so many klinkers. The added bonus of being able to either ban a song or an ENTIRE artist helps tremendously in shaping my station, and just because I "love" a song or artist doesn't mean that's all I hear, which is what annoyed me about Pandora. Plus, there is the ability to "cache" a station into your Blackberry or smartphone for playback when there's no service and it helps save the battery too. Good stuff, just wanted to add to my initial review.

I'm trying it out to see how their version of a Feist station compares to Pandora's. So far, so good. Thanks for the recommendation, Push-Pull!

That sounds awesome. Too bad I'm listening to Pandora at the moment.

I'm going to register today, and do an initial test-run tomorrow morning.

I do like Pandora. I haven't heard of these others. Then again, I hadn't heard of Pandora until a friend was hired by them two months ago.

Well, I now see what you mean Push-Pull.

I haven't even been listening for an hour, and although that one booming "slacker-radio" commercial caught me off-guard, it is a wholly-engrossing experience of music.

I tried one of the preset stations, "Indie Chill", and it is exactly what I was hoping for and more. Excellent. I have yet to set up my own "tweaked" sound station, but it is usually just a shuffle of genres bound together, so having one genre to listen to is a very nice vacation to someone such as myself.

I have one question though: where do I find out where my station playlists are? Say I wanted to save some of the preset stations, would I have to find them among the jumble of other stations on the main page, or is there a way to add it to my profile somehow for easier access and peace of mind?

---------- Post added at 09:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 PM ----------

EDIT: nvrmnd.

I figured what clicking the station's name at the top-right hand of the player would do, and as you would expect, from the drop-down listing, there is an option to "fav" the station I am listening to currently. It never hurts to be curious about something you don't understand (well most often times, those seldom times when not, it's tragic).

I used to love Pandora, then they cut service to Canada which was just absurd, since then I've just been following a few various radio shows I've found online. I've been digging the underground garage as of late, as well as a bunch of different jazz ones from the local stations around here. Anyone here follow any sorts of (music) radio shows in particular?

Damn, only available in the US. First Pandora, then YouTube music videos... I really really hope they don't take Spotify away.
