Albums everyone owns but you don't.
EDIT: The name should read ALBUMS 'EVERYONE' OWNS BUT DON'T; albums that everyone knows, like The Police's Synchronicity, or The Eagles' Hotel California, that should be a part of someones collection. Most of the time "cannon art" goes unseen/unread etc.
Similar idea to my other thread with the opposite intention. I always find "cannon art" often goes unheard, unwatched, unread, etc. Everyone has had that conversation with a friend that ends with "What?! You haven't _____ed ________?!" What are some classics (like books or films) that you know need to be a part of anyone's collection. Mine: London Calling - The Clash [Incredible english rock romp that goes from skewering social commentary to tongue-in-cheek pokes at the youth of the era. A step forward, I think, in punk-rock. Agressive, drum laden, bass heavy rock and roll with a twist of arrogance] Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys [Harmony laden pop at it's best. Piano lines skip in and out of songs; organs pull on others. Shifts in and out of reminiscence, nostalgia and hope. It doesn't make me think of sunsets or wayfairers, rather small intimate moments that scream life. All of the songs are memorable and worth listening to over and over again] Parallel Lines - Blondie [Debbie Harry and crew captures a generation's access and distaste with said instant gratification; new york indifference. Sorrowful and hook heavy] Other notables: Songs From The Big Chair - Tears For Fears Hotel California - The Eagles Rumors - Fleetwood Mac |
I don't own a single Led Zeppelin album, and only got my first Stones and Dylan albums this year (I'm 34)
|
I don't have "The Chronic", the quintessential gangsta rap album. I know, I'm a bad Californian.
|
I don't have nor want anything by Bob Marley.
|
I don't have any Led Zeppelin (Stones guy, myself) or AC/DC albums (which is shocking because I really dig AC/DC).
Also don't have a single CD of reggae or rap music. Don't like the stuff enough to warrant spending money on a CD. Totally refuse to own Radiohead or fucking Coldplay. When people tell me to embrace generic croon I vomit a little and swallow. |
You don't like falsetto on top of light piano and a soft beat? Comon, Crompsin, how can you hate on lyrics like this:
I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sweep alone Sweep the streets I used to own I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listen as the crowd would sing: "Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!" |

The only Zeppelin albums I have are 4, Houses of the Holy and How the West Was Won. I love them, and need more of their music, but just haven't got around to it yet. No Stones, no Dylan at all...
I don't own any Common, I only have 1 Nas album, no B.I.G. or Pac... |
I don't own anything mentioned here, although I love Coldplay (ducks, covers). It's albout the sonic baby, not the lyrics.
I own the stuff people should really own, Ani DiFranco, Tift Meritt, 98 Degrees. Wait, did I just say that? I own no 98 Degrees. |

 anyways, I own no coldplay, no lady gaga, and no aerosmith albums. |
i only have one james brown album.
he switches to funk later in his career! i haven't even heard any of it! |
I don't own 'Frampton Comes Alive' and I was in high school in 76. But I do have the first 'Boston' album, so that compensates.
|
zero Metallica in my collection.
They just never did it for me. |
