Aretha Franklin greatest singer in rock era

Well Rolling Stone magazine continues to try and add controversy with another 'best of' list, most likely to try and sell more copies of their rag.

Has their been a list yet citing RS as the worst music mag yet?

Again, it is a matter of taste but their are the typical jokes placed as usual in the top 10 like,..Bob Dylan. Jeez, I am surprised they forgot Kurt Cobain in the top 10. Could they have forgotten that legend already?

Anyway, most of you don't care and really neither do I. Just bored. Any thoughts?

As much as I like the work of Kurt Cobain, to suggest his beating out the likes of James Brown and Stevie Wonder is a bit much, no? Do you really think the top 10 are jokes?

It is subjective, I suppose. Who are your top 10 greatest singers of the rock era? How do you judge it?

I'm not sure if I get the poll. "Greatest Singer in the Rock Era": Does this mean greatest rock singer? Or greatest singer of anything from the 1950s to the 1990s?

It's interesting though, because the poll was open only to musicians and producers. I'm a bit intrigued by the list, actually, and would like to see the whole thing.

any list of vocalists the encompasses the history of rock or pop that does not have the good don van vliet of captain beefheart and his magic band on it is not a list worth reading.

but then again, it's rolling stone, so it's self-evident.

I won't buy it but I'm sure the list will surface somewhere.

Would like to see where Freddie Mercury, Annie Lennox, Ian Gillan, Seal, Janis Joplin,..the list goes on place in the list.

Maybe what just set me off was seeing Bob Dylan in the top ten. Granted the guy has written some classics, but come on,..he hasn't been audible since about 1968. I think the iconoclastic insensibilities put him in the top 10 in any category regardless of the fact that he is a horrible singer
