I think this is Yuri Shevchuck.
I was searching the net, for a band from Russia, that played in La Jolla Ca. in 1980 security was weirdness..I don't think it was this band though, I have the flyer still...buried somewhere. These searches have shoals and shores. I like that last song, roachboy. |

|
piggybacking from debbie does dallas---the daddy long legs track comes from a compilation called "suck it and see" that howie b put out about a decade ago of dance music inspired by porn soundtracks. i heard it in france--the whole thing is just great---but it never seemed to get any traction in the states. go figure.

back in the day when car stereos were fashionable for me, I would drive around LA. When a minitruck or other booming stereo pulled up alongside me blaring their stereo, I'd play this song. It has alot of bass and alot midrange and highs. Since it has consistent sound unlike hiphip or rap music, it would get rather overwhelming for the other vehicle.
Disneyland - Main Street Electrical Parade |
The Go Team - Panther Dash
Awesome tune, always makes me smile. |
hide - joy williams
|
Garbage - Cherry Lips
I never thought I'd like Garbage, but over the past decade I've really enjoyed them. |

For a simple song.... I quite this one. Plus - it's a nice video. Catchy and simple - or maybe I just like the singer eh.
|
thanks for the contributions.... if you look at the first post, you'll see a master playlist that has about 100 songs on it. This thread works best if you can find something that is on that system, as it becomes like a community created and shared playlist.
good songs! |
I had forgotten about this thread...
The Volunteers - FckMyGhst saw them at Mercury Lounge the other night, great band! |
i was looking for this thread the other day...thank, Cyn!

Johnny Ace - Pledging My Love
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...dia/ace460.jpg I've been listening to a bit of this guy lately...I love this period of early rhythm & blues recordings...that smoky, echoey sound. Anyway, Johnny Ace had a string of hits in the early 1950s and died in 1954 at the age of 25, backstage after a show in Houston, TX while playing a game of Russian roulette. And that were the end of Johnny Ace. |

The Jolly Rogers - Mingulay Boat Song
Not the version I was looking for, but done in the same spare style. I wanted the one from The Poxy Boggards. I was just feeling homesick. I'm not sure where home is anymore, but I want to head there. |

I be dancing to this while scrubbing walls today. |
Jimmy Scott
...one of my new obsesssions this is a track from the Twin Peaks movie, arranged by the wonderful Angelo Badalamenti. Jimmy Scott began his career in the 1940s and has a fabulous catalog of jazz standards, but I had never heard of him until recently...he has a genetic condition that effects his voice - makes his singing voice sound feminine, so much so that people are always surprised to find out that he is a man (as was I)...so much depth and beauty - soul, I love him. :) http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...my_Scott_3.jpg ---------- Post added at 07:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:22 AM ---------- Positive Force - We Got the Funk http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...eForce1980.jpg ...1980. |

B-52's twofer...from the 1983 album Whammy (which kind of slipped by unnoticed, but it's my favorite B-52's album)
I just came into possession of a B-52's compilation recently and I was listening to it on the way to work this morning when this song came on....years, years, years since listening to it. Song for a Future Generation wanted to post Whammy Kiss but alas, seeqpod doesn't have it, so Legal Tender will have to do. These songs make me feel like an 18-year-old again. :) |
Muse - New Born
No Muse until me? Come on now, people. Pearl Jam - Love Reign O'er Me I know the Who version is already on here (it doesn't work by the way), but I really think Eddie's voice in this cover really delivers the emotion of the song. |
Alizee - La Isla Bonita
I'd like to get away... even though I just got back... damned job sucking the life right out of me. |
I can't get any of the songs to play.
Is anyone else having this problem? ahh, now it's working. Shawn Phillips - Screamer for Phlyses |
Shawn Phillips - Screamer for Phlyses

Janis Joplin - Take Another Piece of My Heart - just because my daughter is adorable when she tries to sing it
Grateful Dead w/ Janis Joplin- Turn On Your Lovelight - Perfect day for this song. 80 degrees, breezy, plenty of sun. Throw open the windows, grab a cold brew and sail away. |
Two by CAN.
Because every good day should have a little CAN in it. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...-media/can.jpg ---------- Post added at 12:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:11 PM ---------- Harold Budd - one of many godfathers of the modern day ambient music genre - a genre that I navigate solely on the basis of instinct. I have come to really enjoy the music of Harold Budd, though, above all others. Reading this about him just now in his wikipedia entry, I have a clearer understanding of why. Quote:
His music is best listened to in a reclining position in the dark. |

Working Class Hero - John Lennon
|
Crosby, Stills, Nash, &Young - Teach Your Children Well.
Teach Your Children by Graham Nash You, who are on the road Must have a code That you can live by. And so, become yourself Because the past Is just a goodbye. Teach, your children well Their father's hell Did slowly go by And feed them on your dreams The one they pick's The one you'll know by. Don't you ever ask them why If they told you, you would die So just look at them and sigh And know they love you. And you (Can you hear and) Of tender years (Do you care and) Can't know the fears (Can you see we) That your elders grew by (Must be free to) And so please help (Teach your children) Them with your youth (You believe and) They seek the truth (Make a world that) Before they can die (We can live in) Teach your parents well Their children’s hell Will slowly go by And feed them on your dreams The one they pick's The one you’ll know by. Don’t you ever ask them why If they told you, you would cry So just look at them and sigh And know they love you. |
Ohhh double posting.....on fire....
Peter Gabriel - I have the Touch The time I like is the rush hour, cos I like the rush The pushing of the people - I like it all so much Such a mass of motion - do not know where it goes I move with the movement and ... I have the touch Im waiting for ignition, Im looking for a spark Any chance collision and I light up in the dark There you stand before me, all that fur and all that hair Oh, do I dare ... I have the touch Wanting contact Im wanting contact Im wanting contact with you Shake those hands, shake those hands Give me the thing I understand Shake those hands, shake those hands Shake those hands, shake those hands Any social occasion, its hello, how do you do All those introductions, I never miss my cue So before a question, so before a doubt My hand moves out and ... I have the touch Wanting contact Im wanting contact Im wanting contact with you Shake those hands, shake those hands Give me the thing I understand Shake those hands, shake those hands Pull my chin, stroke my hair, scratch my nose, hug my knees Try drink, food, cigarette, tension will not ease I tap my fingers, fold my arms, breathe in deep, cross my legs Shrug my shoulders, stretch my back - but nothing seems To please I need contact I need contact Nothing seems to please I need contact |
The Mothers of Invention - You Didn't Try to Call Me
Zappa was such a relentless skewerer...here he skewers sugary 60's pop music. He was also an egotistical bastard who hated almost everything and I can really relate to that, lol. My ex was a huge Zappa fan. When I left him, I left him with all of the Zappa cds. It's taken me the almost 5 years since to reclaim Zappa for myself - so I've started slowly accumulating his albums again. Tonight I am listening to Zappa and he is not. There's something satisfying in that. |
Ben Harper - Ground On Down
|
John Denver - Leaving on a jet plane
|
Leonard Cohen - The Future
Give me back my broken night my mirrored room, my secret life it's lonely here, there's no one left to torture Give me absolute control over every living soul And lie beside me, baby, that's an order! Give me crack and anal sex Take the only tree that's left and stuff it up the hole in your culture Give me back the Berlin wall give me Stalin and St Paul I've seen the future, brother: it is murder. Things are going to slide, slide in all directions Won't be nothing Nothing you can measure anymore The blizzard, the blizzard of the world has crossed the threshold and it has overturned the order of the soul When they said REPENT REPENT I wonder what they meant When they said REPENT REPENT I wonder what they meant When they said REPENT REPENT I wonder what they meant You don't know me from the wind you never will, you never did I'm the little jew who wrote the Bible I've seen the nations rise and fall I've heard their stories, heard them all but love's the only engine of survival Your servant here, he has been told to say it clear, to say it cold: It's over, it ain't going any further And now the wheels of heaven stop you feel the devil's riding crop Get ready for the future: it is murder Things are going to slide ... There'll be the breaking of the ancient western code Your private life will suddenly explode There'll be phantoms There'll be fires on the road and the white man dancing You'll see a woman hanging upside down her features covered by her fallen gown and all the lousy little poets coming round tryin' to sound like Charlie Manson and the white man dancin' Give me back the Berlin wall Give me Stalin and St Paul Give me Christ or give me Hiroshima Destroy another fetus now We don't like children anyhow I've seen the future, baby: it is murder Things are going to slide ... When they said REPENT REPENT .. |

Triggered by the thread discussing memory:
It now it plays in my head as I remember where when how, all the sights of sound surrounding, the clothes, the mood, the date, the faces, the myriad subtle and not so subtle ingestions, occuring the first time I heard this song, and all the others following. David Bowie - Five Years |
