Most recently, I had the "Dexter" theme song stuck in my head....

Also, there's actually a (non-scientific) term for this: earworm

ItWasMe 11-12-2007 04:19 PM

The old commercial "I am stuck on bandaids cause bandaid's stuck on me" whenever I stick one on my kids.

Michael Jackson's "Thriller" comes to mind each Halloween.

FYI. Replacing it with this

Song stuck in my head at the moment:

Still Alive - from the game Portal in The Orange Box for PC and Xbox 360. It's the ending credit song, and it's so addicting. Great tune, and funny.

Otherwise, there's usually a My Chemical Romance song stuck in my head throughout the day.

yellowmac 11-12-2007 06:05 PM

I once had "November Rain" by Guns N' Roses stuck in my head for about a year as a kid growing up. Yeah, totally bizarre, I know.

Jadast 11-12-2007 07:14 PM

[QUOTE=World's King]I'm about to ruin your day...

You did ruin my day. It took me years to get that song out of my head. My kids are teens now and I thought I had at least 10 more years before having to endure kids tv. But as soon as I saw that stupid sheep puppet I started hearing the song that nevers ends in my head.

Thanks. Thanks alot.

roachboy 11-17-2007 03:14 PM

this song is firmly jammed into my skull because i watched eternal sunshine of the spotless mind again last night.
it's been following me around all day like a balloon attached to my beltloop.

worst thing is that i kinda like beck with strings.
but for fucks sake, go away.

go away.

Yesterday I had to resort to Machinehead to dislodge "My Sister Don't Wanna Get Drafted", from my head.

/ Don't want nobody to shoot me in the fox hole.

ring 11-19-2007 03:30 PM

It is that time of year, for me,
'Angels We Have Heard on High'
I rememember enjoying this one in choir,
all 18 syllables of the word 'Gloria'.

Plan9 11-19-2007 03:35 PM

That bubblegum song by Lifehouse entitled "First Time" sticks with me.

debcooper 11-27-2007 09:28 AM

this song has been stuck in my head for weeks. WARNING: highly contagious. Do not play near small children or you'll have them singing it day after day!! :P

Stay~ Sugarland

I been sittin' here starin'
At the clock on the wall
And I been layin' here prayin'
Prayin' she won't call
It's just another call from home
And you'll get it and be gone
And I'll be cryin'
And I'll be beggin' you, baby
Beg you not to leave
But I'll be left here waitin'
With my heart on my sleeve
Oh, for the next time we'll be here
Seems like a million years
And I think I'm dyin'

What do I have to do to make you see
She can't love you like me

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of bein' lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay (yeah)

You keep tellin' me, baby
There will come a time
When you will leave her arms
And forever be in mine
But I don't think that's the truth

And I don't like bein' used
And I'm tired 'a waitin'

It's too much pain to have to bear
To love a man you have to share

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of bein' lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay (yeah)

I can't take it any longer
But my will is gettin' stronger
And I think I know just what I have to do
I can't waste another minute
After all that I put in it
I've given you my best
Why does she get the best of you
So next time you'll find
You wanna leave her bed for mine

Why don't you stay
I'm up off my knees
I'm so tired of bein' lonely
You can't give me what I need
When she begs you not to go
There is one thing you should know
I don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay, yeah

Well, it's obscure to me. And that isn't the version I get stuck in my head, it's a scratchy little girl voice singing it (almost sounds like Tegan and Sara covering it) with just a music box in the background. The reason I said it was an obscure ballet song is my only exposure to it is that my sister had to do a dance to it umpteen years ago, and therefore had to play it over and over for like...two months.

ring 12-19-2007 09:06 AM

I can't take it any more, where did it come from?

Copacabana - Barry Manilow.

Illuminaire 12-19-2007 09:12 AM

I swear, I'm not posting this just 'cause of my avatar!

Also:

Jonathan Coulton FTW!

Byrnison 12-19-2007 09:56 AM

Gah, for some reason the Portal song dredged this song back to my forebrain - my wetware has some strange processes :)

Kaze ni naru (was in The Cat Returns, not the anime in the clip. Don't look up the english lyrics, they are kinda corny, but the song is just happy!) :hyper:

ring 12-19-2007 10:37 AM

it has retuned.

moot1337 12-19-2007 01:12 PM

The single most contagious song ever is Scheherezade by Rimsky Korsakov.... all I have to hear is the first few notes and the entire 44 or so minute song plays over and over in my brain, and I'll unconsciously whistle random medleys from it...

The funny thing is, it's not just me. One of the things my best friend and I did before he went to Vegas was whistle one of the medleys to it, and it would get stuck in our heads for hours... it worked on a former boss of mine too. Just one medley and he'd be humming it in 10 minutes or so ^_^

Willravel 12-19-2007 01:43 PM

Oh my god, moot. Now you've got it in my head. I'm trying to get it out by listening to Dvorak, but I'm not holding out hope. I know what my mind will be doing between now and 2:30.

JustJess 12-19-2007 02:03 PM

Right now, I have a Christmas song stuck in my head. Shocking, I know... "clap hands, it's Santa Claus... I love you I love you dslfkjasldfjbecause clap hands it's Santa Claus!"

Most disturbing. It runs through my head at the most awkward moments... *sigh*

ngdawg 01-20-2008 08:20 AM

For a full week, I was working on a video that contained the songs Eye of the Tiger, Standing Outside the Fire and We Are the Champions....those would not leave my head, so I made a cd of tunes to play in my car.

Weird - Ant Music was part of this mornings hypnopompic entertainments. (Starting on a path with seeing The Sword of Bheleu on my bookshelf and ending with Ant Music just before truly awakening. One logically follows the other. Really.)

levite 02-07-2008 11:29 AM

Varies, for me, but sooner or later, one of these will always show up for a day or two:

Walk Like An Egyptian - The Bangles
Pictures Of You - The Cure
Hey Jude - Beatles
Secret Agent Man - Johnny Rivers
When Doves Cry - Prince
What Is Love - Haddaway

I don't even like half of those songs....

now that's cool. It reminded me of a song from Fishbone's EP V.T.T.L.O.T.F.D.G.F., never knew what it meant but just that it was a song about Godzilla. Thank you for making me look up the video that explains it as Voyage To The Land Of The Freeze Dried Godzilla Farts. It's also a song that can has at one time been stuck in my head.

Seriously, I am not even slightly joking. I've used (and told other people to use) this technique almost without failure for years. Start singing the opening keyboard parts (do, da-do do da DAH...) to yourself, and let the whole song play out, and tada! Whatever was stuck in your head is now gone. If you're not yet familiar enough with it to sing it through, come to this thread and play it, and hum along.

I couldn't find a track that had that.. until I got back and figured out that I had not transfered Cobra Starship's debut album. It's still rolling around in my head, and I've been sampling many different tunes all day.

Hey Mr. DJ

I had this god-awful song in my head all day at work.

why is it that Carpenters songs seem to be easily stuck in the head?

I listened to Stephen Lynch this afternoon and I've had "If I were gay" stuck in my head all night. Not that there's anything wrong with that... but the song gets old after a while.

I'm not sure. I mentioned the song being stuck to one of my coworkers and ten minutes later she complained that now it was stuck in HER head. I had to apologize profusely.

Here's a song that got stuck in my head thanks to my wife. She was watching "Legally Blonde the musical" and the song "Oh my God, Oh my God you guys." comes on and I catch myself singing it days later. So now when my wife gets mad at me she'll sing that song!! Grounds for a divorice!!! Totally
