>> The Linking Game <<

I've seen people playing the 'band game' on some messageboards where you take the last letter from a name and use it on the first letter of the next bands name.... that game sucks.

Lets play a good one... you have to come up with a fact/rumor or whatever that links an artist or a band. For instance:

Nirvana links to Hole - Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love we're together and had a kid.

Hole links to Smashin Pumpkins - Love was also romantically linked to Billy Corgan.

Smashin Pumpkins links to Zwan - Corgan was in both bands

Zwan links to A Perfect Cirlce - Paz Lenchantin played in both Bands

A Perfect Circle links to Tool - Maynard James Keenen plays in both bands

so I just went from Nirvana to Tool. :D

So... Ill start it off with an easy one:

Gun's n Roses

Derwood 06-16-2003 08:39 AM

- Guns N' Roses' guitarist was Slash
- Slash was seen on an episode of "Trading Spaces" when a musician friend and his wife were redoing a room.
- Trading Spaces is hosted by Paige Davis
- Paige Davis is married to musical theatre actor Patrick Page.
- Patrick Page was seen in "The Lion King" on tour.
- "The Lion King" originally starred Heather Headley.
- Heather Headley recently released an album called "This is Who I Am"

So beat that....Guns N' Roses to Heather Headley!

How about this one:

Link someone to Ric Ocasek

silver26 06-16-2003 10:18 AM

hahaha, that's pretty wild, but I was thinking of just one link at once, but I never specified, so no biggy.

Derwood 06-16-2003 05:43 PM

I was just following your example....

But I see what you want now. You name a band, I link one band to it, and so forth and we see how long we can keep going, right?

silver26 06-16-2003 06:49 PM

Correct... Lets try this again, with another easy one:

Metallica

RatherThanWords 06-16-2003 06:54 PM

Metallica had bass player tryouts to which Les Claypool from Primus was one of the auditionees.

I take it now someone has to link primus?

silver26 06-17-2003 02:59 AM

Primus played a cover of 'NIB' on "Nativity in Black, Vol. 2" with Ozzy Osbourne.

Derwood 06-17-2003 11:47 AM

Ozzy Osbourne's bass player used to be Robert Trujillo, now of Metallica.....wait...d'oh!

Seriously, Ozzy's drummer used to be the drummer for Faith No More....

silver26 06-18-2003 05:50 AM

Faith No More had none other than Courtney Love from Hole in the band briefly.

Im sure someone can make a link with Hole ;)

Unknown Poster 06-18-2003 10:45 AM

Hole had help from Billy Corgan, of the Smashing Pumpkins, on their last record.

Derwood 06-18-2003 05:21 PM

Billy Corgan covered "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac on the "Pisces Iscariot" album

RatherThanWords 06-18-2003 07:33 PM

Christie McVie of Fleetwood Mac originally sang for The Spencer Davis Group.

chainsawred 06-18-2003 09:57 PM

Well then I guess we have reached Steve Fucking Winwood who also sang for the Spencer Davis Group.

chainsawred 06-18-2003 10:02 PM

I have an idea, lets select an artist to be the ultimate goal in this game. I nominate oh lets say LL Cool J. If we can link Metallica to LL Cool J, that will be a pretty good accomplishment. Especially considering that we're on Steve Winwood.

silver26 06-19-2003 03:58 AM

Sounds like a plan. but Im a little stuck on this Steve Winwood guy.

Someone hurry up and link to him.

chainsawred 06-19-2003 09:33 AM

Allright then, if we're stumped, Steve Winwood was in Blind Faith with Eric Clapton.

silver26 06-20-2003 02:55 AM

Clapton played in a band called the Yardbirds in the early 60's with Jimmy Page.

Derwood 06-20-2003 05:29 AM

Jimmy Page's riff for "Kashmir" was sampled by P. Diddy (aren't you glad someone aimed us towards Hip Hop in our goal of LL Cool J?)

silver26 06-20-2003 06:12 AM

P diddy was featured on a song called 'After School' by.....you guessed it... LL Cool J!

So I guess thats it.... lets start a new one... any suggestions on the start and finish artists?

Unknown Poster 06-20-2003 08:46 AM

Perry Como to G.G. Allin?

silver26 06-20-2003 10:01 AM

ahhhh.. I think that may be a little more far fetched... Metallica to LL Cool J was bad enough.

If anyone can start a link from Perry Como... be my guest

Derwood 06-20-2003 11:50 AM

well, was Pat Boone ever on the Perry Como show? Cuz Pat Boone covered some heavy metal tunes....

silver26 06-24-2003 04:14 PM

Pat Boone hahahaha.

Check out this link I found of him. Its hilarious

http://www.rossetta.com/patboone.htm

Unknown Poster 06-25-2003 11:26 AM

Well, using Allmusic.com, this is the best I could come up with:

Perry Como sang some Burt Bacarach songs,
The song, written by Burt Bacarach, "Close to You" was sung by The Carpenters.
Sonic Youth covered "Superstar" on the Carpenters tribute album, "If I Were A Carpenter".
The liner notes for Sonic Youths record, "Bad Moon Rising" were written by Gerard Cosloy.
Gerard Cosloy played guitar for G.G. Allin.

Whew!

RatherThanWords 06-25-2003 09:01 PM

here's a good one... From The Dixie Chicks to Kerry King of Slayer :)

silver26 06-26-2003 03:44 AM

Nice, more mainstream, I might know something by this. I don't know shit about country music, but I found out this:

In 2002, the Dixie Chicks took part in the Fifth Annual VH1 Divas show in Las Vegas, along with Cher among others.

Not without washing my hands afterward.

unassumed 06-26-2003 12:50 PM

Cher starred in the movie "Mask (1985)" which featured original music by John Lennon.

Derwood 06-26-2003 01:10 PM

John Lennon did the song "Fame" with David Bowie

coldhands 06-26-2003 01:37 PM

David Bowie is the name a Phish song....

Reggie6 06-26-2003 03:48 PM

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio is in Oysterhead with Les Claypool of Primus..

silver26 06-27-2003 06:03 AM

Les Claypool once tryed out for Metallica after Cliff Burton tragically died.

coldhands 06-27-2003 06:05 AM

Apparently, in this game, all roads lead to Metallica!
