Streaming Music - Pandora

Anybody heard of http://www.pandora.com?

My housemate told me about it a few days ago, and its one of the coolest things out there for music. The site asks you to pick either an artist or a song, and then afterwards it will choose a song/artist depending on the one that you chose. You then have the option to give the song a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down" and it will give another recommendation based on that. The site also allows you to create "radio stations" based on the artist/song that you originally choose, so the next time you go to the site your preferences are already there.

Obviously, since it's streaming audio, it works best with a faster internet connection. But if you haven't been there, I recommend you at least check it out. For me personally, it has already introduced me to a bunch of artists/songs, that I would never really know about unless someone pointed it out to me. With this site and allofmp3.com, I think I'm set for music for a very long time.

I've recently started using this. It's friggin' AWESOME! Anyone else have any stations they've made?

Sounds pretty awesome. Unfortunately, they no longer allow access for people outside of the US.

I prefer last.fm, but Pandora is pretty awesome too.

I've made several stations:

Earth Wind And Fire (and Stevie Wonder, Al Green, War and some other 70's soul acts)

Dusty Springfield (with Boz Scaggs and Joe Cocker, looking for the blue eyed soul)

The Beatles (plus Lennon, McCartney and Harrison solo, along with Neil Finn/Crowded House)

Kim Richey (with Marshall Crenshaw in the mix to keep it from being dominated by female artists)

Buddaheads (for modern blues)

I do dig Pandora!

It sucks that they don't work outside the US... and my more creative methods don't work to make it think I am in the US.

So I use Seeqpod. It doesn't cover that need to find new music, but I usually search an artist I rarely hear and make a playlist of things I do not recognize.

Based on my oldest playlist on Pandora, I've been using it since April 2, 2006. I fucking love it. Out of 40-50 hours a week at work, I'm probably listening to Pandora for 32-35 hours of it.

Been on Pandora for a couple of years, love it.

xepherys 06-26-2008 09:21 PM

Can you link your stations or only share them through the site?

Pandora is xenophobic. If you don't use Pandora the terrorists win.

Unless you're not American. Then the terrorists win anyway.

It's not that I dislike it, exactly. Back before they started IP filtering I quite enjoyed it. Now I use seeqpod. No recommendations, but I don't feel that I need them particularly anyway, so that's fine.

The IP-filtering got me too. I used to love it, when I was still able to access the site.

I once found a way to proxy around the filtering and still get through, but it seemed like too much effort. Started using last.fm recently and it's not too bad either.
