Rotten To The Corps... Apple Corps That Is!!!

Thanks to the Beatles and a three-year-old lawsuit filed on behalf of their Apple Corps company, Apple Computer could find itself in a bit of a pickle if things don't quite go their way in a London, England High Court this week.

Apple Corps Ltd. — a company founded in 1968 and still owned by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as the heirs of deceased Beatles John Lennon And George Harrison — is suing Apple Computer once again, this time over its iPod devices and accompanying iTunes music delivery service.

Whatever the result, it looks like the trial, which begins on Wednesday, is going to be an interesting and unprecedented one. The judge who will be hearing the case, the Honorable Mr. Justice Mann, has already asked both sides whether they feel he should disqualify himself.

But why would he fathom doing such a thing, you might ask?

Why else?

He owns an iPod.

You can't copyrite the word "apple". I'm tired of everyone stealing from and trying to rip off apple. Case in point: Windows. And good luck finding a judge without an iPod.

No, but you can trademark it. I don't know how these things work in the UK, but in the US, the burden is on the trademark holder to "vigorously defend" their mark against infringement. A "diluted" trademark is worthless in the marketplace, and can result in claims against direct infringement being indefensible.

This is ridiculous. The only reason this lawsuit should have any bearing is if people are getting confused between either brand. Tell me the last time you thought Apple Records had anything to do with computers and electronic gadgets.
