comments / suggestions on my recording

Here's a couple of very rough clips of stuff I'm working on. I know they're really short, but it's a pretty good indication of where I'm going with it... I'd like to hear any comments you guys might have.

These were done with Adobe Audition, a Line6 Guitar Port, and drum samples from betamonkeymusic.com.

Anyone? No? *tumble weed blows across*

anyways, I just whipped a .MySpace page with a couple more of my demo ideas ... if anyone wants to check up on my stuff in the future

Well. I listened to them. It's not my favorite style of music - so I won't comment on that.

But I will say that they're pretty well played. The guitars are a little thin, but that may be an artifact of the compression process. Could also be the Line 6 ... if you have even a halfway decent amp you should try micing it (if that's a possibility). It's always better to push some air into a mic ... you could try re-amping what you've already played.

I'd certainly be interested to hear it more fleshed out. Get some bottom end in there.

I know that you're probably limited in the drum department but it would be really GREAT to hear it with real drums.

Keep working on them and post updates so we can hear the EVOLUTION!

Thanks man! Glad to get some feedback.

The Guitar Port can get some good tones if you know how to use it right... but the problem is, I don't know that much about it yet. Hopefully I can get a stronger tone after I play with it more.

Some bottom end is DEFINITELY needed. Im gonna keep writing the way I do, and see if I can get a bass player on board in the future. Or buy a cheap bass to play with for now.

The drums are real, professionally recorded stuff... I think they sound a little off because the levels are mixed bad and I haven't spent enough time arranging things the way they should be.

I'll be updating my stuff on MySpace in the future I guess. Keep checking back :)

Have you played with some effects on the guitar? To my ear, the main rhythm part sounds a bit dry. Maybe a little verb or something to give it a little fuller feel? Also, have you played with double tracking? Not artificially, but actually playing the rhythm part twice and panning it? Might be fun to see what happens

Need some bass, definitely. I'm a big fan of Adobe Audition, can't you augment it with some of their loops?

The rythym is a bit basic for my taste. Sounds like a riff on Smoke On The Water.

The guitar is a little dry, Ill try to add some flavour to it.

And I have some double tracking on a couple of the other recordings I was throwing around. I haven't master it yet though.

i made a fucked up drivin' bass part for your "song2 w/ vocals.......but i can't get them merged together.

maybe i'll set my fostex up by the comp.....play your myspace tune and record the bass line with it.

we'll see what happens.

Fly 03-17-2006 07:52 AM

hey......where are you in Canada?

it might make it easier if you emailed the tunes too me.........then i can manipulate them a little better.

pm me if you wanna talk about it.
