'99 malibu...
we just got a van and i now have the '99 malibu, only thing wrong is that the 1 and 2 on the a/c and heat knob doesnt work at all but the 3, 4 and 5 work fine.
my question is, since i am taking the dash about to at least fix the radio reception or install my kenwood from my lil escort, i wondered how/what i should check to see if i could get all of the vent knobs to work! thanks in advance! |
I have a '97 malibu and those problems you are all descibing are common in the malibu. I learned to live with the poor radio reception by buying an Ipod and plugging it directing into the stereo. As for a/c knob I just jiggle the knob around till it starts working on the lower settings. It's ghetto, but what do you expect malibus were cheaply made...

I got a 81 so I would be no help:D

That problem is common in GM cars, there is a little box bolted next to your blower motor, and what happends is that is usually burns out so you will lose most of your lower fan settings. They have uprgraded this parts quite substantially and it should only run about $35 and take abotu 1/2 to install.

merkerguitars is correct about the blower resistor. As far as the poor radio reception goes, usually what happens is there is a cable that runs from the radio to the antenna. The cable comes unplugged under the carpeting where the front seat passengers feet sit. All you have to do to fix this is pull the carpeting back and plug the two sections of cable back together, and usually use some electrical tape to tape them together so they don't come apart again. You might have to pull the trim panel along the bottom of the right front door sill to get the carpet back. The panel just snaps in, so it will pull right out.

i will try to wiggle the blower cords and hope that fixes it...if not i will prolly end up just living with it since that it what my wife did lol. we have had to take the back seat and carpet out (the back windshield was leaking), to dry it out. i will just double check the attn connections tho thanks
