The T stands for Targa (roof) but since Porsche owns the trademark for "Targa", it's just a "T".

All NSX's are normally aspirated from the factory and one common complaint is they need more horsepower. Sadly, a really good forced induction system for this car would cost about $10,000. Personally, I don't find it underpowered and don't see myself buying a supercharger any time soon.

I got a little (okay, a lot) braver today and tried to push the limits around some corners. In the end, I don't know where the limit is and am not sure I want to find out. If it's that hard to break the rear end loose, when it does come loose it's going to spin hard. I can drift my SLK almost with my eyes closed but not this puppy.

I've not met you yet, and somehow I have this urge to greatly dislike you. . . I'm sure it's just the raging jealousy, it's a gorgeous car, thanks for posting the pics!

Hurrah, my friend. This is the used car of my fantasies.

It was Honda's proclamation to Italy that they could in fact build world-class supercars in their own vein. Honda chose a unique method - the aluminum unibody, as well as some freakish technical details - Titanium CR's, which I was already expecting after I saw my first CR-30. But I still laud them for keeping the usability of the machine in such high regard. Good ergonomics, ingress/egress, and visibility.

Damn, they really wanted to make a smart statement to Maranello about how fine these cars can be. Maranello just upped the horsepower and sexiness later on. The NSX always just made due with it's sleek, efficient F-16-inspired concept. And I will forever call it a Honda - purely out of respect for the marque. "Acura" is just BS for the USA.

Honda helped Ferarri by building this car like 12 years ago. That's actually the only lingering problem for this car in the current market - it's a pretty damn old design... A great one, but a generation behind. God-fearing peoples should keep their eyes peeled for the next-gen NSX. Batteries and all... And despite the billboards, it will of course be a Honda at heart...

Well, I've had it 4 days now and I'm definitely getting more comfortable with it. I suffered the horrible embarrassment of trying to pull off from a light in 3rd gear and stalling it (and with a friend next to me in his car of course). That was pretty tragic but I guess I'll survive.

My wife still hasn't driven it. She did the same thing with the SLK - took her about a week just to drive it around the block. I just don't get women. :D

The pictures on the street underneath trees and stuff are incredible. There's a guy down the street here who has a black NSX too but it looks like crap because it's always grey and nasty here, so his car is consequently always wet or dirty and depressed looking. Yours looks great! Congrats!

Congratulations on a great buy! It looks like your NSX is in wonderful condition. I have always been a big fan of the NSX, as I am a devoted Honda / Acura owner. In the meantime until I can afford one, I spend much of my time building / racing Honda Civics (NOT street racing, mostly Autocross and soon hopefully road course).

The NSX is a wonderful machine, and they beg for clean curvy country roads. Treat it well, but drive it fast too.. :) Bury your foot into that pedal for me, just once.

Today was 7 days with the new car. In that week, I haven't driven the SLK at all until last night when I just moved it to the other side of the driveway. What a weird feeling it is to jump into the SLK and feel like I'm sitting up high! In the meantime, I put 400 miles on the NSX.

This NSX -- you literally 'fall in and climb out' of this thing. I have learned the NSX dismount procedure necessary to keep from wearing the seat bolster (a very common wear point on this car), consisting of a stiff left arm to the pad on the kick plate followed by a right hand to the steering wheel that pushes you up and out. I got some muscles complaining but I'll get over it.

The NSX is going in for a timing belt/water pump on Wednesday so I'll be back in my old car (or even worse, the Escort) for a day or two. Errr - otay. Lookin' forward to that! ;)

The car is thrilling to drive and I really mean that. I know it doesn't have as much HP as a Corvette or a host of other modern cars and I don't care. I am a mature guy, I've been around the block, I've owned or at least driven a LOT of cool cars over 30+ years. I am qualified to say this car is fun, really fun, to drive around town and on the highway. It has a stock exhaust and is pretty quiet but when you get to about 5000 RPM and run to the redline at 8000 RPM it is music to behold and it is happening about 2 inches behind your right ear. Very sweet!

Storage space is abysmal. You could put a cheese sandwich in the glove box and a sun visor in the pouch behind the passenger seat. After that you have in the center a couple *really* little compartments and a small console cubby and that's it. The factory Bose stereo is only adequate by today's standards (much like my SLK) and not easily upgradeable. Whatever. Eventually I'll have an aftermarket exhaust on this car and I'll listen to the motor most of the time and be happy doing it. There is a trunk, it is small. Up front? Forget it. You could put something soft under the glass over the engine if it don't mind getting hot.

Speaking of getting hot... The targa roof stores over the engine. If I've been out driving around and want to put the top on, it's FUCKING HOT! For now I have a couple shop towels in the trunk but I think I'll get a pair of oven mitts embroidered with an NSX logo just to fuck with some of the other NSX owners online (all of whom seem to have a lot more $$$ than I do). :)

I get a lot of looks driving around in this car. I'm sure if I lived in Miami and cruised South Beach every night no one would give me a second glance. Here in Sarasota - where my Mercedes SLK doesn't rate a nod - the NSX gets stares. I both like this and fear this at the same time. Time will tell how I feel about it in the long run. It's a bit sucky to notice some driver next to you is staring at your car instead of paying attention to the car in front of him. :(

Anyway, that's my first week with my dream (used (practical (exotic))) car. It has EASILY been the best motoring week of my life after my first car a long, long time ago.

I feel like saying in my best Crocodile Dundee voice, "You call that a timing belt? Now this, this is a timing belt!".

The Acura service department was so fucking nice I couldn't believe it. I mean, the MB service is nice but very aloof and professional. When I take the SLK in a guy meets me with a clipboard and he knows my name and is business-like and all. But my car goes behind a glass wall and I can only stand and stare at the clinically clean service bays.

At the Acura dealer it was kind of greasy in spots but I got invited back to see my car on the lift and meet the tech who was doing the work and we yacked for quite a while. He brought the car down off the lift so I could see the engine with the valve covers off and so on. Very nice!

And BTW, that timing belt cost me $1390.

In fairness, that $1390 also got me a new water pump and other belts and seals replaced at the same time.

Thanks and thanks for reviving my thread. I wanted to show what I did last week but didn't think it deserved a thread of its own.

Anyway, the problem is that the targa roof gets hot as hell when it's stored in its little spot over the engine. The combination of sun baking through the back glass and the engine heat below means that top is a hot sumbitch when you want to put it back on.

So I asked the guys on the NSX board and they were using shop rags, gloves or burned skin. I decided oven mitts were the answer but they have to be custom...

So I buy some mitts, print a logo and use it to cut a stencil, haul out the airbrushes and paints and the next thing ya know, I have my roof mitts!
