So, this ad would never coerce you into buying a VW Polo/Golf, eh?
It seemed rather effective, I thought...

On today's CNN internet news, it was said that a particular company has been making these bogus commercials for cars. They are really pissing off the automakers since they do not put a disclaimer on any of these parodies. VW issued a statement decrying this parody, calling it 'disgusting'. (Another car commercial that floated around, a Ford Sportka that beheads a cat, had be intended for Ford's use, but they rejected it and it then made the internet rounds.)

Interesting. Its pretty controversial stuff, no doubt. It seems the only place for such ads is the internet. It's like the next, allowable 'creative' step after cable tv:

network tv: no nudity, no swearing, mild violence, etc.
cable: nudity, swearing, extreme violence, drug use, etc
internet: porn, swearing, scenes of real violence, discussion of real drugs, and stuff like, 'vw polo suicide ads'.

Its all strangely hypocritical. Anything to get people talking, I guess.

Ford and VW are both full of it. It's just a way to get cheap advertising. Spend a few bucks on a controversial "unauthorized" ad that gets passed all around the Internet, and then your name and product get splashed all over by the news media, all for free.

No such thing as bad publicity.

Funny and disconserting at the same time. Isn't that what these companies want you to do think about what you jjust saw? Keep it in your head? Either way effective advertising in my book. Good film making.

damn thats funny. Speeking of ads that didn't air, i remember seeing this one clip of corvette commericial on internet a while back. it had a kid (clearly younger than driving age) driving a corvette. I guess they didn't air it because kids would get the ideal to take their parent's car out.

I loved that VW ad. I don't see anything wrong with it.
It makes me laugh at the stupidity of suicide bombers.

It was a funny ad. The first time I saw Ford's Sportka commercial. I swore it was real and they really did decapitate a cat.

In consumer goods there is most certainly such a thing as bad publicity. VW already knows this due to the problems it's having with the Touareg in the US.

I work for VW's ad agency on the VW account and we've all been told that it is a spoof. A series of high level meetings on this very subject would confirm that.

i wish i had a car that would do that to birds and cats that tried to crap on my car and leave little foot prints on it. If it actually did that, even though It's a Ford, I'd sell my honda and get that, well wait, I'd probably go to the junkyard and jack all the parts of it to hybrid into my honda after looking up some info on the internet.

.....Damn Fords

I could be mistaken, but I could of sworn I saw this on TV before. Maybe somebody just sent me the link or something, but I've definitly seen that commercial before. I just remember thinking how suprised I was that they would produce something like that.
