Subaru WRX

Well got the WRX a week ago. So far only put 3xx miles on it. Pretty nice car, its growing on me. I actually really enjoy the steering wheel lol. The interior is alright, haven't sat in the back or had anyone back there yet but doesn't look to have very much room. My first turbo car good god turbo lag sucks lol, I have to downshift if I ever want to get anywhere :P (Btw the tranny sucks ) Overall I'm enjoying the car I just wish the new car smell would go away so I can open up my jdm smell. I'll post more pics when I get the chance, and when its not dirty as heck (parked for a week under some trees)

edit: ok I'm dumb... I'll get a pic up when I figure out how :P (I think somethings wrong with the URL I have in.. oh well dumb webshots) guess i cant link off webshots oh wells heres the URL http://community.webshots.com/photo/...84752516eeUOdn

niiiiice..

i plan on getting an impreza rs (or ts, whatever) in two years, unless my parents' friends end up selling either their bmw x3 or acura mdx. if that happens (slim chance, but its there) i'll definitely have to pass on the subie and go for the show.

HOLY BIG PICTURE BATMAN! seriously though, all I can see is the headlight, or the hood scoop, or the wheel.

Nice ride however

haha sorry so I take it its showing up? Cause its not on my screen. Yea I just snapped a quick pic right after I parked it before going back on campus.

Hmm the 2.5RS? Or whatever looks nice I like the 2doorness of it :P But yea... I'd go for a x3 or mdx over it just for the better creature comforts.

wrx's arent THAT bad in back seat room. You can fit a couple people back there, although they will bitch if the ride is more than a half hour or so, so it is kinda tight back there. And ya, the tranny on those cars is a weak point, check around u can get in a class action lawsuit if it breaks. Friend of mine did and subie payed him enough to get a full race straight cut gear set.

I have an 04 wrx and I got rid of the turbo lag by getting the cobb accessport. That was probably the best thing i've done to it (besides harder shifter bushings). Be warned though, getting an accessport can/will void your warranty.

Watch out, that car will grow on you until it haunts your dreams at night and you have to get up and drive it at 3AM. Trust me.

Make sure that if you wanna be in the lawsuit, u leave your car stock for a period of time. Sometimes, to be involved with the suit, your car may have to be inspected by a dealer; so leave it stock, and "no, i never raced it" is all you need to no. Then when u get the money you can do whatever you want. Just remember that most mods will void your warranty, although i think blow off valves and exhausts and intakes may stil be legal under dealer warranty.

I'm absolutely jealous. Nice car, I've always loved the WRXs, always wanted one, but being a poor college student, I can't afford it... yet. I'll just have to wait till I graduate, THEN the fun will begin .

When i worked for a dealer, i would get SOOO sick of the "fresh leather" smell that all the mercedes and bmw's would have. Nice at first, but aggravating after a while,.

People who complain about new car smell really tweak those of us who can't afford new cars! Anyway, nice car; look into the turbo timers and that fun stuff. The handling is the best part of those cars, so go out and push it through some twisties (and yeah, the transmissions are not so hot).

My mother of all people bought a WRX wagon when our family 1986 minivan died and the only thing she doesn't like about it is the interior. The plastic design sort of screams cheap. But all these feeling change when they get that foot of snow in the northeast and she's sliding around the roads in four wheel drifts. Of course, when I'm home without my car (which is at school), I always try to borrow it instead of the other minivan. Good choice!

Sorry about that didn't mean to rub anyone the wrong way. Yea theres a few nice roads around my house back home. Hmm if I ever get around to getting a job I'm probably going to get suspension, then tires, then a reflash. I haven't really looked into it but maybe I can swipe an exhaust off a sti (not too sure of the benefits, but its gotta be better then mine)

Haha wow no snow around here but that sounds fun... maybe after break in I'll have to go find some snow.

Chances are that for the cost of finding and hooking up a wrx exhaust, you can most likely get an aftermarket exhasut for a very similar price.

yea haha.. beats me we'll see. if anything I'll just get a helix exhaust. But yea who knows maybe some sti owner will replace their exhaust and would want nothing more then to get rid of the stock one.

Nice. I was gonna get one when I turned 18, but I can't cash in my mutual fund 'til I'm 21 . Still thinking I can get a used one for around 10 grand or less when I get there (2 more years from the 25th), if I can find one that hasn't been driven like it's supposed to.

Uppipes are nice (especially free) since you can get the boost to build a little faster; however the reflash w/ a free flowing exhaust is where it really gets fun.

haha yea free is always good :P Does anyone know how restrictive a sti exhaust is? dunno guess I'll have to get a job this summer.

haha good luck tspikes I kinda wish I waited 2 more weeks to get a car... then I coulda got my friend's mom 750 for 15k.. oh well to big anyhow

yea probably reflash/exhaust will be one of the first things I do if I get a stable source of income. Although I dunno if I'm going to enjoy the increased volume of a new exhaust. I actually like how the stock one looks :P

There are a lot of stealth-back type exhausts that go from 3" diameter down to the stock size at the muffler. With the stealth-back installed I got all the flow that was needed and the sound of the car outside remains stock. When the downpipe is changed there is some more noise from the turbo that finds its way into the cabin but it isn't all bad. Overall I didn't spend more than 1k to get my car from stock to the Cobb Stage 2.

On a different note, a good cheap mod is hardened shifter bushings for the transmission. It removes some of the sloppiness when shifting and doesn't take but a few minutes to install.

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...exhaust+thread Heres the exhaust thread.... the thing i have a problem with username is that u said it gives u all the flow u needed (im assuming u say its = to a full 3" back). The exhaust thread would disprove that. Not hating, just showing the thread.

That is fine, I'm just saying what Cobb generally seems to recommend and what most other people who have WRXs have done. Besides, I gave up on the whole modding thing on Monday and just bought an M5.

Edit: Actually, I read the exhaust thread and it stated

Quote:
For engines making 250 to 350 horsepower, the generally accepted pipe diameter is 3 to 3 ½ inches
So a 3" turbo back should be fine since most modded WRXs are gonna be between 227 hp stock to 320ish for a vf34 modded WRX.

just curious but do you have like the flex pipe? for either your exhaust/uppipe/downpipe ?

No I didn't have any of the flex pipes. I had a Random Technologies downpipe and center pipe with highflow cats and was planning on a Cobb Uppipe in the near future.
