2006 Hona Civic Si Concept [picture intensive]

Quote:

This Honda Civic concept gives us a very good look at the next generation car. The 2006 Civic is due this fall and has been annouced as the “Vehicle of the Show” for SEMA 2005. More pictures at the link.

The 2006 Civic launches in the U.S. this fall and will include a 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe and Si Coupe, Hybrid and a natural gas version, the GX. The concept is powered by a 200 hp, 16-valve, DOHC, I-VTEC engine with an 8,000 rpm redline. Getting power to the road is helped by a helical-type limited slip differential.

Other Si features are 18-inch wheels and tires, 4 wheels discs, cross-drilled rotors and 4-piston Brembo calipers.

In my opinon, its looking damn good. A huge plus is the great motor honda's throwing in there.

Hopefully it wont loose this look as it transitions from being a concept to a production car. For some reason, I doubt the exhaust will stay as it is in the pics.

*thanks to Jmill from another board i post at

shakran 02-10-2005 07:36 PM

Too audi - ish in the back and that wing is horrible. Other'n that, not bad.

Can you link to the post about it being the SEMA 2005 car? SEMA 2004 was just a few months ago.

I'm not sure where the source of that quote is, but if i find it, i'll definitely post

irseg 02-10-2005 08:05 PM

Hmm. It's an improvement over the current model, but considering the concept model isn't anything special (it looks like an RSX that mated with an Audi TT) and production models are almost always dumbed down, I doubt the new model will look very exciting.

1slOwCD8 02-10-2005 08:12 PM

Wow, i think it looks sweet. To me it looks like a mix between the acura tsx and the scion tc. I cant wait for saturday to check this car out in person at the chicago auto show, along with other sweet cars of course.

Nimisys 02-10-2005 08:25 PM

meh, wrong wheels still doing the turning, and its filled with a lot of buzz words that don;t mean squat in reality. 18" wheels for 200hp, yeah!

Tech 02-10-2005 09:37 PM

looks pretty nice... i'm just glad it's not another hatchback *bleh*

Halx 02-10-2005 09:42 PM

Looks nice.. stole a lot of styling cues from Toyota though. Scion tC rear end. Camry/Matrix front lip.

mechanicman 02-10-2005 10:27 PM

I wonder how much it will be. I might consider putting off my 2005 Civic EX special edition for that.

Scorps 02-11-2005 09:06 AM

Back end looks like the new Pontiac G6 which looks like a Camary:eek:

GetRdone 02-11-2005 11:32 AM

I think the "car of sema 2005" thing was refering to the "projected" outcome of this years sema, not a reference to last years sema. Ill be able to tell u first hand, cuz this year i am going to SEMA

laconic1 02-11-2005 01:33 PM

I just saw something on automotivenews.com last night that Honda is going to be the featured manufacturer at the SEMA show this year, the first time an import manufacturer will be featured at the show. Pretty much that whole site is registration required and I don't have my login details here at work so I can't post a copy of the story here right now.

NCB 02-11-2005 02:11 PM

Pretty cool.

I think these hybrids are gonna come a long way 5-10 years from now

That makes more sense.

waltert 02-11-2005 11:56 PM

Its still a little on the ugly side, but thank god it doesnt look like a mini-minivan.

the current ones are ugly as sin

sixate 02-12-2005 08:23 AM

That thing is sweet! I'd trade my 99 si for that in a heartbeat.

LLL2 02-12-2005 12:19 PM

Kinda ugly. Also how can you work on the engine? Imean atleast a few years down the road,Looks so small.

Scorps 02-12-2005 04:06 PM

So the hood being black does that mean its Carbon Fibre?

GetRdone 02-12-2005 04:37 PM

looking at the closeup hood picture, it doesnt look to be carbon fibre.

Stare At The Sun 02-12-2005 05:37 PM

Back wing is ugly, but other than that, its pretty sweet!

Cycler 02-12-2005 06:32 PM

Lose the wing and I like it alot. I have a 1992 Accord right now and in the next couple of years will be looking for something different, this looks promising.

Halx 02-12-2005 07:09 PM

The more I look at it, the more I dig it. Unfortunately, the finished product will not have smoked headlights or taillights.

MSD 02-12-2005 08:19 PM

This is what every one of those idiots with duct-taped ground effects and foot-tall wings wish their cars look like.

I'm pretty indifferent toward it.

1slOwCD8 02-12-2005 08:52 PM

I just saw it at the chicago auto show today, and it looks better in person. And no, the hood isnt carbon fiber, and theres no interior yet. Too bad i Forgot My Camera!!!! Arghhh!!

impulse03 02-12-2005 09:35 PM

i like it...a lot.

i'll be in the hunt for a new car around then so i'll definitely have to check it out.

Lockjaw 02-12-2005 10:13 PM

Hmmm....I'm at a loss on this one. Don't hate it but it doesn't look good either.

hosti|e 02-15-2005 02:49 PM

It looks nice but i doubt very much itll look quite that great on the street :|

And I'd trade my 93 SL2 for it... though all it'd get me was the Honda emblem.

Seriously though, I might have to trade up when that comes out. Sure, it's design looks like it was ripped from other cars, but it still looks pretty nice. And really, I don't need uber-performance from a car...

edit: In short, I'd hit it.

jfelco 02-15-2005 10:54 PM

not bad, nice lines... i like the motor options.

krwlz 02-16-2005 05:16 PM

Damn, looking sweet to me. I'd love to drive it.

Jackebear 02-17-2005 12:07 AM

I kinda wish they would make the Civic Si hatchback again. I had a black 1995 model and I loved that car.

I'm no expert but I think the Si should have stayed a 3 door hatchback and the coupe should have been called a Ci or something. I can't imagine a VW GTi as a coupe either and it should stay that way. However, I am sure I will take a look at the new one when it comes out.

But the ricer kids will like it...or rip it off and put a 9 foot wing on it. :D

GetRdone 02-17-2005 11:26 AM

big wings on front wheel drive cars is f**kin retarded. I would understand maybe some front spoilers, or canards, but there aint no reason to have a big wing on a car like that. Small wings are ok for styling i guess.

jizzmasterp 02-17-2005 02:47 PM

I like the looks of it. I definetly get a stealth plane vibe from it. Honda has come through with a design that can compete with competitors such as the Mazda 3.

The 05 Civic si is a hatchback.

actually they acn help with loading down the rear suspension, under higher speeds, but for improved front traction you would want more of a lip defuser.

in any case this is purley a cosmetic wing.

userasdf1234 02-17-2005 08:34 PM

i like it, the car is very agressive and the specs sound great. I think they should use a small decklid-type spoiler (or lip defuser, like Nimisys said) on the trunk instead of the one pictured.

Jackebear 02-18-2005 01:42 AM

Thanks "Sixate" for the update. I have been overseas since Jan. 2000.

I was pretty sure they stopped in '96 or so and put the Si badge on the coupe. I remember a lot of people were disappointed. I did not know they brought it back...sorry for looking like a fool. I will definately take a look at it when I go home for my annual vacation this summer.

I still think they should name this a Ci or Xi or something and keep the little hatch as an Si. Just my thought.

Ya i know but when your 17 and don't know shit about RWD, AWD and FWD you just do it to get noticed.

Now my project car in the next couple of years is going to be a 92 Nissan 240SX I want to but a small spoiler or wing on the back but that car is RWD and I know that, but I know lots about cars :D
