Awesome 2005 GTI commercial -- even if you're not a GTI fan, its worth the watch

ATTN: GTI enthusiasts, VW is making us proud with commercials such as this :)

here's another link to the video, just in case:

The concept is awesome and intelligent: makes perfect sense. The car itself? Wow, I think it will be the best GTI ever [even better then the generation 2 -- which in most circles is regarded as the best GTI]

umm, a few people seem to be IM'ing me regarding the song in the commercial.

1. why dont you just post your question in the thread? hehe

2. here is some info a forum member from a board i moderate at said:

It's a remix of "Singing In the Rain" by Mint Royale (that took a bit of digging to find out). It seems that they will be releasing the remix with their upcoming new album.

There was a news bit about it and they said that they did it with 3 different dancers. I'm almost certain that the main dancer is David "Elsewhere" Bernal. If you do a search for "Kollaboration" and "Elsewhere," you'll turn up a couple of dance vids with him in it. He's pretty friggin' amazing to watch

^ i dont know if you guys have seen this "david" guy -- but he is simply fucking amazing

[edit]

got more info, the commercial was done with three breakers in total:

bboy crumbs, jay walker and elsewhere all playing the role of the legendary gene kelly

man, am i trippin out or is this the best thing that ever happened to TV?

Classic actor [gene kelly] + classic scene + amazing amazing car [i love GTIs] + stunning breakers = the recipe for success in Eric's book of umm... successful shit [?] lol

I wanna know when we're getting that car in the US. The pics I've seen online are all overseas... what gives?

I always sorta roll my eyes when an internet trend makes it's way into the mainstream.

merkerguitars 02-10-2005 12:01 AM

My friend that is a vw mechanic says the new ones will be based on "Touraeg" technology, so either they might be good or suck extremely bad, they look nice though.

yellowgowild 02-10-2005 12:05 AM

Great commercial, but they should've gone all out with the dancing and shown the car more towards the end.

all i've read so far is excelent reviews. the first generation GTI [known as 'A1' or 'mark 1'] started it all. The Mk2 [A2] GTI is regarded as the best GTI VW has made. The Mk3 and the Mk4 [what i have] are considered to be the "not so great" GTIs. Many review's claim that the Mk5 GTI [this new one in the commercial] will bring back the sporty awesomeness exhibited in the Mk2 GTI's

Well for now, VW is pushing these adds as sort of a teaser.

Expect much less creative, but much more revealing ads in our country in a few months.

Mk5 GTI for reference:

I had a GTI 10 years ago...man o' man I miss that car. But I still drive a VW...now a 2002 VW Golf GDI. The new GTI...very nice. And if I had the cash...the VW Golf R32 would be mine...awesome.

The commercial is well done....I look forward to seeing if the new ones coming up continue the trend of mixing old and new.

Scorps 02-10-2005 09:31 AM

That had nothing to do with a car...but OK!

GetRdone 02-10-2005 09:52 AM

i love that commerical. My roomate (board name BigGov) cant stop watching it lol

Scorps 02-10-2005 09:56 AM

the dancing is good, but it has nothing to do with the car!

It does when you think about it... because the last 2 Golf GTI's have been a bit of a let down, VW are stressing that, this time, they've got the old GTI formula right. Hence the message, 'The Original, updated' at the end of the ad.

Get it?

I think this ad is top quality.

The old GTi formula had 1,000 lbs. less tonnage.

This GTi is the equivalent of the new 4-dr. Dodge Charger.

Common in name, but not in the soul.

Oh I wouldn't have known that because I don't really care for VW......But I always thought the GTI was a strong car!

Is it my fault I want to show everyone on our floor a commercial this amazing? It's definately one of my favorite commercials of the past few years.

True, the old GTI formula was lighter but it didn't pack 200bhp under the bonnet like the new model.
