Motorcycle insurance - how far will I have to bend over?

Me: Age 21, good grades at school, spotless record (both police and driving,)
Bike: most likely a mid-90's Harley or something similar. Large (1000cc+) engine, chopper style, not sport bike (height issues prevent me from sitting on one comfortably)

Roughly how much should I expect to pay per year for insurance? It would be a weekend, or maybe twice a week bike, I would still be driving most of the time.

Try going to something like Qucikquote or Progressive or something like that.

Also, check with the state on wheter or not you have to have it. I know that it is not required in Washington, but I think that it is a good idea to have it.

I'm about twice your age, but full coverage on a 1998 Honda Valkyrie (1520cc) runs me around $300 a (9 month) year.

I had my first bike at 25. Clean record and all. The bike was a Ninja 600cc. But my insurance through Progressive was about $50 a month. But I also had a discount because I had 2 other vehicles insured through them. Bike engine size has a lot to do with it. I got a quote for a 500cc Ninja and it was about 25% less than for a 600. Oh, and I took a motorcycle safety course which help decrease the cost A LOT!! I would reccomend that to anybody.

Since your bike is a 1000cc, and that you are 21 (and assuming you havent taken an approved course yet), I would guess your monthly insurance would be over $100.

I will be doing a training course, and i was hoping that isnce it isn't a sport bike that I would get a bit of a break.

As for quickquote, they only do life insurance. Progressive wants personal info (SSN,) and since I'm not going to be getting anything for a while, I'll just hold off and work with estimates people give.

Age 30, No tickets
2000 Honda CBR600 (daily ride) liability only, $172/year
2002 Yamaha R1 (track bike/weekend ride), full coverage $479/year

Both bikes are insured with Progressive. I have my truck with State Farm though they wouldn't even touch my bike insurance even though I've been with them since I was 16 and also have home insurance now too. I only had one car accident when I was 19 and it wasn't a big claim against me (~$1000) denied by State Farm for bike insurance.

The safety course is definitely worth the time. I rode dirt for about 10 years before I got a street bike and when I took the course I learned a few things and fixed a couple of bad habits.
