New vette or mustang?
 

So now that both are out and on the street. which would you buy and why?

I like the vette better, the mustang looks too much like a toy to me, all plastic looking.

While the new mustang has a nice design, I don't see how the overall car is any way in the same class as a vette.

I'd BUY a Mustang because I don't have 40k to throw around on a Vette. If somebody gave me a car I'd take the Vette because it's a superior performance vehicle. I do like the looks of both though but I favor the Stang just slightly more.

ive always wanted one, aside from the early 90s late 80s design ive loved every car that came out.
I am not really a ford fan for their cars and im always stuck having to listen about my mothers stang from the 70s that would always catch on fire.

I would prefer the Vette, but it's not really comparing equals, as several folks have noted. I do appreciate the new Mustang, but the Vette certainly didn't take any steps back, IMHO.

Depends on how well the 05' can be made to handle. I'd love to turn an 05' in to a customized street/strip race car.

The mustang is decent but the vette is sex. Always has been and always will be IMHO

No contest, Vette is the better car. The new C6 best yet. But it really is comparing apple to oranges, they are simply sperate class cars.

I'm a Chevy/Toyota guy and I'd have to go with the Mustang. Simply put bang for the buck, sure you don't get the mystique of the 'Vette, but I'm not in it to impress anyone but myself. I'd just assume get a base V8 model and work with that, it'd be paid off sooner, and I'd have more money to put into the Mustang. Oh and they are both dead sexy.

Make the Mustang a Cobra (or a Roush, or a Saleen) and then we'll talk.

As much as I loved my '98 Mustang GT (and really looking forward to testing a new Mustang) I'd have to say that I enjoy my brother's '99 Vette C5. There are some many great things in the Vette that totally surpass the Mustang such as the electronics, lighter body, and better engine. I like the fact that the Vette has traction control. I was also spinning the rear wheels on my Stang but the traction control on the Vette works wonders coming around corners. Definitely go for the Vette! I'm up for dibs for my brother's Vette when he gets his Ford GT.

These two cars are not in the same class.

I think a better question would be "Vette or GT40"
It seems to me that Ford is sick of people comparing these vastly differently powered cars, and wanted to put out something that was truly in the Vette's league in the hopes of grabbing some of their market.
Or perhaps what you were going for is "Camaro vs Mustang"
Here we have the opposite situation, Chevy is starting to work up their new Camaro, in response to the massive support that the T-Bird and Mustang have gotten.

I would still vote for the Mustang. I think the Vette is too generic and I don't want a supercar, I want a sports car.

The Vette is about as qualified to be in the Ford GT's class as the Mustang is to be qualified to be in the Vette's category i.e. not at all.
BTW the Vette ain't a supercar it's sports car nothing more. Unless you are putting upwards over 500 horsepower or so to the ground and have a sticker price of well over 100k US...it ain't a super car.

I'd buy a new Mustang GT, and put a '04 Cobra Eaton or Kenne Bell on it with the dough that was left over! Go baby go!

The Covette is more finesse to me, the Mustang old school power. I'm talking strictly looks here.

I wouldn't turn down either car, but Corvettes have always been one of my favorite American cars.

Although I love the look of the new Mustang, I'd rather have the power and handling of the 'Vette. Of course this is a moot point since I can barely afford a Hyundai right now.

I've driven a lot of Corvettes and they are so much fun. I'd take a vette over a Mustang any day.

The vette, it is the all american sports car, a corvette always means performance where you can buy a mustang just to say you have a mustang.

I saw the new stang in person yesterday. It was hideous.

New Vette all the way. A bud of mine has a zo6, believe its a 2001 or around there, 200+ for sure. God I love that ride. Surge of power and finesse. Hot stuff.

I'd take the Mustang, only because every Vette past C3 is absolutely hideous to me =/ The C6 is a SLIGHT improvement over the C5, but its still freaking pathetic compared to a Stingray =(

As a Corvette owner, I am jaded, but IMHO there is no comparison between a Mustang and a Corvette.

The Vette wins in all categories of comparison period!

The GT is fast but that and the new Vette have around the same HP, and I don't know much about the new Carrera so I'm not going to say anything :hmm:

Nah the GT squashes the Vette in power out put. The GT is putting out close to it's rating to the wheels and that would equate to around 600 odd or so at the crank. The new C6 is putting out 400 to the crank and it's not underrated. The new Z06 will be getting the 500 horses but even then it's still not certain how fast it'll be.
The GT is just a tiny bit slower than the Enzo and I don't think anybody is going to put the Corvette in the category of the Enzo.

Motortrend has the 05 Mustang at 267 bhp @ 5275rpm and 283 lb-fts @ 4350, which is pretty close to a LT1 dyno with a T-56 that's in excellent condition. Compare an 05 Stang to a C6 Vette that makes 347.9 BHP with 349.5 ft-lbs, that Corvette is going to run circles around it, however if you want some serious bang for your buck get an 03 Cobra. They run high 12's all day long and come with T-56's which is a transmission that I know and love. Dump a few grand into an 03 Cobra and you'll hit mid/high 11's with out blinking an eye and still maintain awesome daily driven manners. I'd go with a C6 if you've got a dailydriver, not that a C6 can't be daily driven, it's a two seater with out much of storage. While a 03 Cobra has a back seat, even though it's small and decent trunk space.

Nope no supercharger. It's getting a 7.0 liter V8.
The Z06 has been pretty much set in stone spy pics of the engine and the car are already popping up. So 500 horses at the crank yes and for around 50k that's a helluva powerful car considering the cheapest way you could get that power would be in the 80k Viper. But the new Z06 unless it's HELLA light won't be sniffing the GT.
The Vette you are thinking about is the Blue Devil which may or may not be built. I've heard anything from a supercharged LS7(7.0 liter Z06 engine) to twin turboed LS2. But nobody is sure what they are going to do and how much it's going to cost. Most do think if it's made it'll be around Viper money aka 80k.

:thumbsup: Nailed it for me! Plus, the lack of ANY backseat in the vette is a minor negative for me. Even a small backseat is better then none.

If I'm not mistaken, there's still two performance Stangs due next year (A cobra, and a Shelby 500, I think). Wait till the Shelby is released, then we'll talk.

For the moment, The Vette has my vote. The C6 is a much more refined car with superior handling than the normal straight-line-only junk Chevy produced.

It represents a giant leap forward for the company, but I'd still like to see someone test it on a track with a few other sports cars and then check what it'll do, not only in terms of track time, but also the car's composure.

When I hear Mustangs going past my tent at 3am and going on to win their class at Le Mans I might conceivably change my mind on this issue.

I think the new Carrera GT is around 605HP and has a top speed of 205MPH

The new vette only because i've never liked the '05 mustang ever since i seen a picture of one way back before it even came out. it's just ugly, and the headlights are one thing that i really don't like about it.

I'm with you on the bacon but the Ford V8 still sounds best in the automotive world. Things sound like if they could they'd eviserate you and lynch you with your own lower intestines.

Corvette, hands down, no question.

Even though I hate GM, and think the new Vette is nothing more than a fake ass Ferrari wanna-be. I'd still take it over that big fat clunky lookin Mustang. I really loved the new Stang at first, but after I acually got to see them in person I think they're ugly. The ass end is too fat, and the rest of the car is just too plain and square for me.

Obviously, the Vette beats the Mustang in every way except the price/performance ratio. If I had less than $50,000 to spend, I'd get the Mustang and upgrade it to the point a stock Vette couldn't touch it. If I had more cash than that, then I'd get the Vette.

On second thought, I could just get two Mustang GTs for the price of one Vette.
