Mods for Mazda Tribute ES-V6...Suggestions

Hey all,

As in another post, I am tinkering with the idea of "suping" up my Tribute. The only "performance" aspect that I have done was using a K&N airfilter in lieu if the OEM. I would like to keep it looking stock as my interest is to get the most out of engine performance. Besides, I don't want encourage break ins or coming out in the morning and see it sitting on blocks stripped...LMFAO.

I am by no means an expert on these matters but very mechanically inclined. Unfortunately I know of nobody to assist me in these matters so I am asking the wisdom of those knowledgeable on TFP so I don't get shafted. I have done hours of Googling for info but have not turned up much info that I can sink my teeth in.

I have at my TFP altar, burning inscence, a sacrificial offering for help...hey kitty...where did you go....come back here...

Thanks in advance,

actinic.

Get a supercharger, lots of HP and it should still fit under the hood

What is your goal?

off roading
more power
better gas mileage

Personally a K&N and synthetic oil is all I would do.

well heres some simple ideas but it will make about a 30hp gain to the fly and about 22 to the wheels...

a cold air intake

and even an exhaust will work, it dosn't have to be a "rice" exhaust, but if you did 2.5 - 3.0 piping back to a mildly quiet muffler it would help to better let the engine breathe

Great Q's 98MustGT. All I am considering the moment is to get the most bang out the engine. A balance between more power and gas mileage.

Thanks for the suggestion trevlya006, never thought of the exhaust aspect.

Pain Train, the supercharger was the first thing that popped into my head.

Another Q, someone else suggested ecu chips. Any thoughts on this as I do some research on this?

Again, thanks all and will look into everything and let you know what I have done.

Hate to say it but with such a limited platform your best bet is nitrous. You can spray any engine..some will last longer than others under the abuse but if you don't spray too much and too often you won't have a huge problem. And you'll also have the power you want without sacrificing gas mileage.

I wish I could be a bigger help but I know nothing about Mazda's power trains. See if you can find out if other vehicles share that same engine and then look for performance parts for those cars. I know a lot of guys with Crown Victorias look for and use Mustang performance parts because they both have the same basic engine with a few tiny differences. So maybe look to see if the Mazda6 or whatever uses that engine.

If you want better handeling suspention and tires might be a good idea(bigger rims with low profile rubber), I remember when a buddy of mine put just low profile tires on his Honda...that gave him a lot better control in the corners
