Yes, I know this was stupid but...
Well the other day me and a not so great of a friend now decided to go and mess around and race each other's cars. We go along and find some backroad and slow down and he pulls up beside me in my 94 Acura Integra GS-R on the other side of the road in his 2004 Mustang. So as we take off I am going along pretty good and just start to go around a corner and thought I saw blue lights flashing in my rearview mirror...sure enough the guy calls me and told me he just got pulled. Later I find out he gave the cop my name, what kind of car I had and where I worked. The cop shows up at my house about an hour after the fact and writes me a ticket for "speed competition" since he says he saw us take off side by side from a slow/ stop start. Now my question is what can I do? This is my first traffic ticket ever and I dont even know how serious of an offense "speed competition" there is no fine or anything on the ticket just a court date and a description of what happened. Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

If you got a court date an dnot a fine, it's a summons, not a ticket. If you were racing, you're fucked. You'll get hit with a big fine, nine or ten points on your license, and possible temporary revocation of your license until you complete a driver retraining course.
Of course, it would help to know where you are, partially for looking up laws and partially so I can look up tracks in your area and wonder why the hell you were racing on the street instead of there. |

it looks like your backroads were not "back roads" enough. Always do a slow run down the street in question to check it out, you are looking for cops, pets, peoples driveways, people outside, etc.... then turn around and go back to the start. Safety first.
BUt to really do it right, your area should have weekend night drag racing at a local track. THis is becoming a popular method for reducing street racing incidents. In my area, it is pretty informal and cheap to run, you can race whoever you want, plus you get all the timing info that you dont get on the street. I dont think you would have had a chance against a 2004 mustang GT anyway, if it wasnt a GT, then possibly. As far as what to do now? go buy a bike. |

One of my favorite stories from high school was of a girl that we all knew - her daddy bought her a Rousch Mustang simply because she thought it "looked nice". She tore off the front body kit running into a mailbox as she was pulling out of a driveway.
Anyways, I guess it doesn't really matter what I say to you, since you went and got yourself banned. However, I would try to fight the ticket on the grounds that, since the cop didn't physically pull you over, he has no actual proof that it was you. Your "friend" could just be narcing on someone that he's having a tiff with. I know that, at least in my state, the cop must have definate proof of guilt before a citation is issued.

I remember watching one of the countless day-time talk shows and the days topic was 'Why doesn't my teen respect me?'. On this show, there were parents with a 17 year-old daughter. To commemorate her license, they surprised her with her very own 2002 Suzuki Aerio. Being the stuck up bitch that she was, she refused to drive it stating that she doesn't want to drive it in front of her friends. The parents sold the suzuki, and bought her a late model Mustang. A week later she wrecked it. Since these parents were top notch, they turned around and bought her a newer Mustang, and this time with the V8 instead of the V6. Stupid daughter. Stupider parents. And did I mention these parents had $30 000 in credit card debt? |

When parents just give their kid a nice car you know it's not going to end nicely. They never learn respect for it or how to take care of it. You want to see a kid respect and take care of a car, find a kid that had to pay for and or fix their own, that usually helps to cut down on abuse.

The guy in the Ford must be a brown noser to give out your name and car but if the cop didnt see your car he can't give you a ticket!
Liek some one phones the cops here that my driving was bad(all over the road) the cop couldn't give me a ticket, who does he believe? And I wasn't driving bad at all! ![]()

Dude, fuck your friend. If he narced on you to the cops what kind of friend is he anyway? The cop has no actual proof that you were racing. I'd fight it in court.
