CM 450 A: $600 ? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

Hi there,

A local person is selling a Honda CM450 for $600.

Is this something worth looking into as a 'first bike' ?

It looks a bit old actually, perhaps an 80's model. There are some dents in the side of the fuel tank, but nothing serious looking. I did not check to see how many miles are on it though.

Please advise,

Depends on a lot of factors, chief among them is what condition it is in. How much money will you have to put into it to get it running properly and legal?

Personally, I would propbably pay $600 for a CM450 in tolerably good shape. If it has dents in its' tank, it has probably been spilled. Check it over carefully.

What do i look for? Are their certian things that i need to know?

Other than appearance, a crash could have affected the way the bike rides and handles. You should be able to take your hands off the handlebars (very briefly) at about any speed and not have the bars develop a vibration of their own.

You don't want bent wheels or a tweaked frame.

might be a good idea to get a friend who knows a lot about bikes to come look at it with you... or take it to a mechanic...
