Yes I noticed that 2(its in fine print under the last picture):D

Peryn 06-16-2004 05:28 PM

Vauxhall Monaro, Holden Monaro, Pontiac GTO ... pretty much all the same car.

Nimisys 06-16-2004 05:33 PM

and all dervied off the "failed" omega/catera platform.

also vauxhal, opel, and holden are all gm subsidaries.

Halx 06-16-2004 05:37 PM

Yes, and all these cars are very very boring on the outside.

choskins 06-16-2004 05:40 PM

So it is based on the same platform of the GTO?

Pretty sweet looking. What is its cost?

CrazySaturn 06-17-2004 12:03 AM

I think it, and the GTO, look pretty secksy. :)

Vaultboy 06-17-2004 12:21 AM

Looks like a Chevy Lumina with a redesigned rear light cluster and exhaust. Bleh.

floydude 06-17-2004 12:56 AM

mmm, uneducated foreigners.

the car you are looking was originally the HSV GTO, developed from the Holden Monaro in Australia. it was developed in australia by general motors holden. it has a 5.7 litre LS1 gen 3 chev V8, and its rear wheel drive.

it is being exported to the UK and being sold as a vauxhall (the HSV GTO that is). the Holden Monaro is being slightly modified and sent to the US and being sold as the Pontiac GTO. and your wrong about the omega catera thing, they have nothing to do with each other

clonmult 06-17-2004 01:43 AM

And its not a concept car.

Everything i have read has said differently. Could be i am looking in all the wrong places, but there seems to be a concensus that Holden adapted the Omega platform for the Monaro.

From http://www.cardesignnews.com/news/20...holden-monaro/
Quote:

an Australian adaptation and development upon the Opel Omega platform, which also serves as the basis for the current Cadillac Catera.
From Car and Driver : "we get a decade-old platform derived from the European Opel Omega and Cadillac Catera sedans".

So if its not based on teh Omega/Catera, please tell me what it is based on, because as all the GTO opponents will tell you, its clearly not a new design.

twilightfoix 06-17-2004 09:03 AM

it looks like the new GTO because Monaro had originally designed the new GTO in the first place and all that looks like to me is a beefed up one. Final verdict, bland styling not worthy of the title muscle-car.

Why does it not get the title of muscle car?

and the mustage does?

stingc 06-17-2004 02:50 PM

I like it.

Actually, the mustang was one of the very few original muscle cars that was designed to look good. The rest were mainly family sedans stuffed with big engines.

Also, many of those original muscle cars were much faster than mustangs. Its funny that they're considered the stereotypical muscle car when the vast majority were designed to look good, not go fast (leaving out a few special editions).

and the original was styled in such a way as to be outlashed and demanding the name? history has colored everyones eyes, go look ta the original GTO and then the rest of the pontiac lineup for the time... it was bland and it did not look out of place in the line up... so is the the new one.. though its lack of ugly ass side moldings makes it stick out fromt he current line up.

silent_jay 06-17-2004 06:32 PM

I hate the GTO and I hate this. It's just so bland and boring, and such an old design, they need to wake up and design something new, instead of recycling.

todd 06-17-2004 07:16 PM

Not bad. Not my favorite Pontiac out there, but its not bad. I think dual exhaust would benefit greatly.

Nimisys 06-17-2004 08:18 PM

its a true dual to the end... where it has a two in, two out single muiffler ont he side... would be quite easy to split it into a single exit on each side.

Pretty much a regular production car. You can call into a Vauxhall dealership in the UK and buy one.

Not as much fun as the Lotus Carlton of years back, but still pretty cool regardless. Lotus Carlton was amazing. Would go for one if I could afford it.

What is it with cars designed for Australia?? They're so damn ugly lol!
Are there any cool looking cars in AUS?

Hell no. They need to get some new designers around here before they get any out there. The Chevy Caviler needs a facelift the new one blows, the GTO looks good because its different to us, the Sunfire looks like shit also...but so did the old model. They went right with the 05 Vette now that looks bad ass and they finally laid the pop up lights to rest!

You can only polish a sh*t so much!
