TL goes down hard
For those of you that did not see it in another post, I raced another TL this weekend while going to a Red Sox game and it did not stand a chance. The SRT-4 OWN3D the TL up. I just got it and I am going to try and get stage 2 for it as there is a Modded 03 EVO that just stomps my ass very hard every time I race him coming into Hartford. At any rate the SRT-4 > the best car in the world!! jk

Oh you mean the Neon that thing, well like I said in the other thread time will tell.
I really hate them though, maybe they should have tried a new style or a whole new car instead of using the lowest of the low Neon. Typical Dodge recycled heap. Oh yeah TL - SRT-4(Neon) totally different category of car, not even comparable. |

I raced an SRT-4 before with my stock sti  good car :P
|
While the SRT-4 styling is basic low budget sedan, I see one every day while driving to work and it looks pretty nice, slightly moded, nice wheels, a nice sounding dual exhaust; I'd imagine it's a good starter hot rod for a young guy like I see driving it.
They are affordable so somebody on a tigher budget can have fun with it. Like young folks who can't afford $30k+ for an STI, Evo, etc. oh yea, the TL too is well over $30k and probably would not even appeal to the young folks who like the SRT-4. OTOH, my wife (we're both way over 40yo) will be getting her new TL very soon and she'll love it. |
In the end, you are still dribing a neon.
|
Racing on public roads is dangerous and just plain stupid. Take it to the track.

What he said. Street racers are morons, no exceptions. Besides, you're having a wet dream over beating a luxury car in a tuned sport compact car? That's kind of like the idiots that rev on me when I'm in my news truck (ford explorer) and then get all excited when they "beat" me. Congratulations, asshole. You just burned 3 gallons of gas getting your Charger to beat a heavy-assed truck that wasn't even racing you. Aren't you special. Besides, in 150,000 miles the TL will be just as fast as it is today. If your car is even running, I'll be surprised. |

Apples = Oranges???
NOT!! I'd take a TL over a NEON anyday. And please race on a track huh??? I don't want some jerk crashing into me while I'm cruising home from work or something. There's a place for everything and the highway home isn't a racetrack! Thank you |

If someone was at the track pulling those times in any other car, you'd probably be singing a completely different tune about them. Yes, the TL is a much better car, but dont dismiss the performance of the SRT-4 simply because its a neon. |

2004 Mazda RX-8, one of my favorite cars, ever (i love the rx7 series better, but these are still damn nice cars), can be found under 25,000. NEW. thanks. and i completely agree with you.... BUT you're forgetting that it was luxury car vs "sports" car. kind of a stupid "race" if you ask me. |
If you buy a car just so you can race other cars on the street, there is a much-maligned subculture reserved especially for you. The masses have spoken.

There's an SRT-4 across the street. The kid crashed it. His *dad* owns a TL just like mine - ordered it a week after me. Nevermind that it's an ugly burgundy color. Draw whatever meaning you'd like from this. |
Lot of hate around here for a car that whoops the TL and cost less, oh well... Like the BMW guys crying that "yea you lost but you drove home in a BMW” oh wait you can't even say that when you get stomped on can you. Hey I love that it's based on the neon platform! Also the Acura's (read Honda) that I see around here don't look great at 150k miles?
Chris |
The point is they are around at 150,000 miles, whereas your neon will be in a cargraveyard where it belongs.
Dude why are you so proud to beat a luxury car? Therer isn't a lot of hate because it beats a TL, there's hate because it's a POS. That's terrible that you like the idea it's on the neon platform, because that means that you probably liked the neon, which is well just wrong. |
Oh, well I guess your right and no neon's make it to 150k. As a side note I am sure you will agree that Acura states that the TL is a "Performance Sedan" not a luxury car. The SRT-4 is also a "Performance Sedan", it's just faster. Thats all there is to it:)
P.S. CANADA!!! I won't even start on this now. Chris |

If you're so damn proud of your SRT-4, get it on the track....or just autocross the damn thing.....and learn some skills. You'll find out pretty damn quick that driving skill matters a LOT more than the car itself. I watched a GO-CART beat a Corvette this past weekend by 10 seconds....and the GO-CART was driven by a 14 year old girl. |
Thanks guys, I do race every year at Lime Rock here in CT (anyone else?). I currently hold the fastest lap in my 65 mid engine Corvair for the Corv-8 class.

How about some constructive discussion instead of "My e-Penis is bigger then yours" attitude? It's a Neon, it is what it is. If you don't like it, so be it. Don't be a jackass and post 5 times on how big of a piece of shit you THINK it is. Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. The SRT-4 is a cool little car, and for 20grand will go head-to-head with a WRX stock. Reliability is a question, as is build quality. And everyone HATES Neons. I happen to think it's a sweet little car, and for somthing to put away in the garage and take out every few days and drive around, it'd be quite fun. As for it beating a TL, well, that's not any surprise. However, the TL is still a hell of alot nicer car then that neon. It is what it is. |

A 22b swap, whats your nasioc screen name? Which # out of the only 399 in the world is it?
Chris |
I don't have the 22b Swap, Silent Jay said he does.

Silent Jay?

This link is a thread from NASA who sponsored an HPDE track day last Summer at Pocono and halfway down the thread Vitor who I think may be part of neon racing team has an incar video of a lap or two. You CAN have fun on a race track with a Neon.

The only thing I can think of when I see a thread like this is "whoopedy doo".
|
Anyone who says they haven't put their foot down when tacitly challenged by another car, and assuming conditions are conducive, is either lying throught their teeth, or very, very, very mature and sensible. It's human nature, and while two abreast at 100mph through the Mcdonalds drive-in might be over-egging the pudding somewhat, a quick tussle between roundabouts can be a right laugh; and safe!
|
Occasionally racing on the street(2 or 3 times a year, up to say 70 mph), OK. Doing it enough to brag about: not OK.
Neon SRT-4, cool car. Same idea of the 60's muscle cars. The Ford Mustang was a stripped down car when it first came out and it was cheap. Don't try to say that the Chevy Nova was a luxury car.The Nova was the lightest body available with a 350 in it. Was the 289 Cobra a luxury car? No. People say it was noisy, uncomfortable, steered horribly, and was a blasty to drive. Acura TL, different class. Give me one of each. I'll take the Neon autocrossing and for fun, and the TL for work and vacations. |

I'm sure most people who have ever wrecked their car didn't expect it to happen. There are actually places where it's legal to drag race..... http://members.rennlist.com/bigdave/0102.jpg http://members.rennlist.com/bigdave/0107.jpg |
Look at all the shiny porsches. Drool!
Even if it is a water cooled Not Real porsche. Just kidding. OW! You can stop hitting me. Damn! Why are all 928 owners so defensive about whether they have real porsches? |
Ok so what was the point of this thread in the first place if not to say "my car kicks your car's ass"
'Cause I don't think anyone here gives a flying shit what a Neon does against a TL, except the guy driving the Neon. I'm sure that $20K sounds like a good investment to someone who sounds like his only joy in life is to beat luxury sedans in drag races. Me, on the other hand, I enjoy cruising the road on a nice, smooth suspension, with the music blasting cleanly in my ear. My passenger is comfortable because of the dual zone climate control and the heated seats. The road is nothing but a whisper and if I ever DID get in an accident, I have 10 airbags saving my ass. Frankly, I don't give a shit what all the kids do in their stripped down, rattling, noisey, ugly little street rockets. |
Preach on brother Hal!!
I agree.. Creature comforts win anyday. I'd like to be comfortable while driving.. |
My big block Nova will pwn joo! hah.
But without power steering, power brakes, A/C, or any other creature comfort I wouldn't drive it everyday. I happen to like the SRT-4, I find it a great idea. But for a family? TL all the way buddy. I guess I am just too open to the idea of a perticular car having a "purpose" and fullfilling it. |

Ok, this is turning into the kind of crap we keep having to lock in politics. You all need to grow the fuck up or shut the fuck up. That is all
