Wow, is that a photoshop, or reality?

PHOTOSHOP

BoCo 05-11-2004 10:13 AM

No way that's a photoshop.

Cynthetiq 05-11-2004 10:35 AM

wicked..someone had some $$$ to burn just in the skirts and wheels alone for the "trailer"

Peryn 05-11-2004 10:40 AM

i vote photoshop. Look at the front end of that trailer. From the front seam of the drivers door forward doesn't seam quite right with the quality of the rest of the picture. My guess is that they took two pictures with their car, one in each position so the reflections and what not would be right, and then put those two together. It is indeed a sweet idea however.

Toadboy 05-11-2004 01:01 PM

That is real! It was in a Car and Drivier (or maybe a Road and Track). They said they found it somewhere is South America. I do not remeber what issue or when it was.

Plus with the relections on the "trailer" That is an amazing photoshop...

Asuka{eve} 05-11-2004 02:47 PM

That is freaking sweet

DEI37 05-11-2004 07:21 PM

The shadows aren't quite right, either. Have to vote PS.

Scorps 05-12-2004 09:59 AM

I say it real...look at the front of the trailer.....it looks like it wraps around and not just cut off....I have seen some nice PS jobs and maybe this is one of them.....need a link to a Car&driver site or something like that!

punx1325 05-12-2004 10:14 AM

Fake, the reflections make it pretty full proof, but if you look at front end of the trailer you notice that it was just been clipped out.

silent_jay 05-12-2004 02:24 PM

here's another link to a pic from a different angle
The pic was from 2002, I vote real

silent_jay's link seems to tip this to real.

silent_jay 05-12-2004 02:32 PM

here's the pic from the link

Looks real guys, I freakin love this thing, I should get a Subaru wagon to go with my 2.5RS, it would look so cool, what an idea.

TheClarkster 05-12-2004 03:13 PM

I've seen something like that except with a Prowler. Very strange thing to see.

BoCo 05-12-2004 10:02 PM

I knew it was real! Thanks, silent j.

?

The trailer was some kind of dealer/factory option.

BoCo 05-13-2004 10:40 AM

elta, those Prowler trailers are available pretty much everywhere aftermarket, and even through the dealers, I think.

Toadboy 05-13-2004 12:06 PM

I need some props, I was the first person to figure out it was real.

Could be like Fiero T-Tops: aftermarket 84-87 and a factory option from the aftermarket maker on 88s.

The trailers sure were popular but I can't remember seeing any Chrysler documentation on them. They are standard enough for standard accessories to be offered though.

DEI37 05-13-2004 06:41 PM

Look closely at the two pictures. The top one doesn't match the second one. The second one may be real, but the top one isn't.

silent_jay 05-13-2004 07:11 PM

It's different lighting from different sides of the car, I still think they're both real

cr25ovet 05-14-2004 04:38 PM

don't think they are real. look at the "trailer" how low it is to the ground you couldn't drive it anywhere unless the road is perfectly smooth.

silent_jay 05-14-2004 05:54 PM

look at the amount of cars out there that are slammed, and apperar to be undrivable, I still vote real

cr25ovet 05-14-2004 06:28 PM

yeah but slammed cars have wheels in the front the trailer doesn't. the trailer hitch doesn't support anything its like a link.

WarWagon 05-14-2004 07:00 PM

Its a chop. You would have seen some of the roundedness where the jambs were moulded into the firewall, and from that angle, you'd probably see some of the firewall, too.

Scorps 05-15-2004 11:54 AM

I saw a old lke 70's Honda with a matching trailer like that....just need to find the Super Street issue online!

silent_jay 05-16-2004 06:07 AM

cool that would be sweet, sure wish someone could find some proof this is fake, because, well I haven't seen any

Cynthetiq 05-16-2004 06:22 AM

so many doubting Thomas's

for those that will accept a few more pictures...

http://www.passatpage.de/treffen2002...ee2002-007.jpg

http://www.passatpage.de/treffen2002...ee2002-006.jpg

and the discussion at a VW forum:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=362831

obviously those that still doubt will until they see it in person or a direct shot of the front end hitch assembly.

silent_jay 05-16-2004 07:19 AM

Thank you Cynthetiq, I knew this thing was real, and I agree that anyone who still doubts it will until they see it in person.

Seen firewall from what angle? The side?

cr25ovet 05-16-2004 09:16 AM

yeah i still think its fake lol. last picture seems the "trailer" is too far to the left, the car is straight and so the trailer should be too.

you've obviously never towed a trailer.. it's only going to be as straight as you say if the towing vehicle has enough room to straighten it out. The wheel angles are consistent with a trailer angle.

well then you should know turns and bends cause angles for the trailer position, hence issues with jacknifing.

Also, think about parallax.

saltfish 05-16-2004 08:52 PM

Is it so hard to beleive that someone with more money than brains would build such a thing?

Ever gone to a large car-show? Extravigant automotive art can be seen throughout the entire show.

I know that eveyone loves to play the "It's a photoshop" game, but still, can photos be assumed real? After all you're assumed innocent until proven guilty!

silent_jay 05-17-2004 06:10 AM

This thing is so real

BoCo 05-17-2004 06:23 AM

I should go find a 5th-gen Honda Civic with front end damage and chop it up and make my own trailer. :)

pocon1 05-17-2004 08:30 AM

Notice that the tags on the tow and the real vehicle are different. I say its real. Usually when people do this, it's on old valueless cars. This person has too much money and time.

Too much money? No such thing.
Too much time? Probably paid a shop to do it all.

Jelorian 05-17-2004 12:24 PM

Its real....more pics.
