Fucking Burn Hole
If you had a brand new civic, and someone managed to put a burn hole in the backseat, what would you do?
Im thinking Im going to replace it. I called Honda and they said a new cover is like 120 bucks. Anyone know how big of a pain in the ass it is to install? |

Someone drop the roach krwlz? I'm not familiar with the seats on the Civic, but if its anything like any of the seats I've ever done, you'll need a set of hog ring pliers, other assorted tools, and a lot of patience.

I'd remove offending seat to replace the covering. I'm not familiar with hondas and you didn't specifiy bench or bucket. If bench there is usually a couple bolts holding the seat in from the front down by your seat or the clips are internale and you can release the seat bottom by pushing back and lifting up. For buckets remove the bolts that attach the rails to the floor. For $120 you might want to see if you can find one in a wrecking yard. It is easier to remove a seat twice then to change the covering.

i would make the person who dropped the damned thing in the first place pay for the new seat cover to be installed professionally......if he/she isn't an asshole.........if he/she is, just beat the money out of them

Had this same problem once. I took the car to an auto upholstery place and since the burn hole was near a seam in the leather, they were able to remove the seat, remove the leather from the seat and refold it. Then it was neatly tacked down professionally and reinstalled. They charged me $35. You would never know it was there.

I agree. Most major interior parts (like seats) have not been changed in Civics over the past few years. Go to your local junk yard and find a 99-03 Civic (they should be easy to find), and I can almost gaurantee that the used seat would be less than $100.

mmmm, Junkyard is something to consider. I dont know how the hole ended up there, or who did it, but Im pissed. Ill see how it goes. THe seat looks pretty easy to take out, and my one friends gunna help me do it.
Back seat, so bench it is. Id really prefer the new cover though... but if theres a nice one out there, I might as well snag it for a few bucks less. And its fabric. |

A hint for fabric seats taken from a junk yard. Don't worry about the dirt only tears or fading. In fact a really dirty seat can often be had at a discount.
To clean grab a spray bottle of simple green and head to the local u-wash carwash. Spray liberally with simple green; brush any especially nasty spots with a floor brush and rinse well with the spray wand. It'll look like new. Scored a nice set of recarros using this method from a car that was smoke damaged in a house fire.
