The new Carrera GT......your opinion?
Talk about impressive.........the new Carrera GT is the most badass Porsche ever built, with a carbon fiber honeycomb composite monocoque structure, single lug wheels, brakes bigger than the rims on ricers, a rear suspension setup identical to that of a Le Mans racer, and a Porsche V10 that redlines at 8400 rpms and outputs 605 hp, they are nearly unbeatable on the track (mostly because they are a street legal Le Mans car)....and listen to this thing rev!

Me likes lots.
|
if i saw that on the road, I would probably lose control of my car and cause an accident
it's .. ok :) |
That is a pretty sick car! If I had a few spare dollars, I'm sure I'd buy it.
|
|
Definately falls into teh supercar category. Personally, i love it. Definately a badass car.
|
I'd like one...
VERY nice indeed. |
the car is amazing.. simply amazing...
|
The single lug wheels are so sexy, i could stare at just those all day. Don't get me started on the rest of the car.....there isn't enough time in the day. :D
|
the numbers are amazing but i really don't think its very pretty. looks a litle bit like the 914 from the side.
|
I'd love to tool around in one of those. It looks great and performs awesome. Porsche = win.
|
Damn that is a sick car, I like it!
|
That car is so sexy if I got too close to one I'd probably start fucking the tailpipe.
|
The front of it looks good, but the back part is ugly.

|
oh lord, won't you buy me, a porshe Carrera GT
|
pretty sad if everyone had the same taste. glad you guys are open minded :D
i just think there are nicer cars out there for that amount of money. and if ya look at the porsche 959 that was built a long time ago the performance of this porsche isn't much better. i assune most people here are pretty young so if you get a little older and grow up i will be happy to reply. regards chris |
I see the elves of the Black Forest have been busy again. Damn fine looking machine.

Completely kickass car. |

What exactly are you basing this on? SLM3 |

Care to elaborate? |
Start it up, stall it, then embarass yourself when, after a dozen tries, you still can't get it into first gear without burning the tires. Take a corner too fast, hit a bump, and simultaneously experience the performance with no stability control and scrape the perfectly flat, carbon-fiber bottom. Then, shift from 5th to 2nd instead of to 4th, and almost blow the engine. Finally, turn the key, and instead of the typical half-second when the engine calms down, there is nothing; the internals are so light that the crankshaft practically freezes in place.
That's some of the more memorable points of C&D's article. |

like for excample 0 - 60 the gt can do it in 3.4 seconds the 959 that was built is able to do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. and that was in the 80's. so after almost 20 years of development you really don't get that much more. and the styling of the 959 was just amazing. like i said the gt is not very pretty. i like the front but the back looks not very nice. and i understand if people like the car just not my cup of tea! |
I figured you were just thinking 0-60 times when you made that comment. Firstly, 0-60 is hardly a true measure of any car's performance, especially a P-car. Second, when we're talking 0-60 in 3.x seconds, the biggest factor here is traction. It doesn't matter if it's 20 years later, you can only get so much power to the ground on street tires with a sports car suspension.
SLM3 |
even top speed
gt = 205 mph 959 = 196 mph too bad there aren't any lap times we can compare. |
don't even like the interior.

959:
Horizontally opposed 6 cylinder, 24-valve DOHC aluminum block and water-cooled heads Max boost pressure: 14.0 psi Horsepower: 450@6,500 rpm Power to weight ratio: 6.6 lbs per horsepower Compression ratio: 8.3:1 Cd: .31 Fuel system: Bosch Motronic Induction: Twin sequential turbocharging 0-60mph: 3.6 seconds (US version: 3.5s) 0-125: 12.7 Top Speed: 198++ mph Curb weight: 2,917 lbs Carrera GT: No. of cylinders 10 Displacement 5.7 liters Maximum power (SAE) 605 hp @ 8,000 rpm Maximum torque 435 lb-ft @ 5,750 rpm Maximum engine speed (revs) 8,400 rpm Compression ratio 12.0 : 1 Top track speed 205 mph (330 km/h) 0-60 mph 3.8 secs 0-124 mph 9.9 secs Unladen weight (DIN) 3,042 lbs (1,380 kg) You may argue that these aren't significant advances. That's fine, but the Carrera GT is street legal. The 959 wasn't in the U.S. |
That car is a champ.
|
bad ass car....love the yellow brakes calipers
P.S. when I get my cav soon im going to paint mine yellow if the car is red! |
I would say the street legal aspect is large
|
well i am from germany they are street legal in my country. they didn't become street legal in the us because porsche didn't want to do the required crash test in the usa.
|
That car is stunning. Just beautiful!!
|
AWSOME , let me dig into my pocket and see if I have any spare coins to make my downpayment..lol.
I look at that and see just a race car, how could it be street legal? Awsome!!!! |
I want to know why some cars are street legal in the states and not in canada and so why are some legal in German but not over seas?
Like the 1999 Nissian Skyline R34, why is it not in Canada? |
I'd say that the main factors in getting a car street legal, at least in the US:
Fuel economy / polution Crash Testing The tires must have a certain width and tread depth I'm sure there are others. |

I honestly don't know any specifics about the Skyline and why it wasn't sold in Canada.
By the way, nice avatar ;) |
My understanding about the differences between US and non-US Porsches involves (at least during the 1980's)
1. US models required catalytic converters 2. US models could not have H4 high intensity headlights 3. The European models did not have the certain door reinforcements I've also heard about the issue with Porsche not wanting to provide the 5 vehicles for crash testing. In addition, I believe that the sequential turbos in the 959 were forbidden. |
sequential turbos illegal--that just seems wierd to me, and yet ther aren't that many cars here with them. Hmm, doesn't the suped up ralley version of the WRX have sequential ones? I thought I heard that would make it here eventually. Were the old Callaway converted twin turbo Vettes sequential? Who knows, i's take either the GT or the 959. I used to love the 959 when I was growing up, it has great smooth lines.
