volvo q145 boat engine?
Does anyone out there know of any inherent problems with this type of engine?
I am buying a house boat with these engines in it. I have had Volvo cars for a large part of my life and never had any problems and am wondering if the boat engines are the same? Thanks |
As far as I know the Volvo (volvo-penta) marine engines are pretty rugged, but that doesn't really have anything to do with the cars. I think that it's a completely different division, like Volvo trucks etc. I would make a trip to a marine mechanic to get the real scoop. You'll only get half the story if you go to a dealer or rely on a few peoples experiences (or my half-witted hearsay). Where will you be docking?

I will be picking it up in Largo ,FL and bringing it through the Okochobee waterway and back up to Satalite Beach Fl.(300 miles)
So you can see why I am a little wary. The mechanic in Largo is going through the motors and thinks they are in great condition (motors 400 hours -out drives 50 hours and resealed 2 months ago). I hope he is right Thanks |
Sounds like a fun trip, I understand your apprehension though. Good luck.

e man,
Check out the boards at www.boatus.com . I have a VP Duo-Prop on my 99 Larson. I love it and have had no problems. One thing everyone will tell you is 'there aren't any Volvo mechanics'. It's true....but then again I think they are like the Maytag repairman. Good Luck. |
Thanks, I logged on and found some good info.
The mechanic has told me they are in pristine condition. Here is hopeing so 300 miles is a long first trip. |
If you have big problems with them take them out and get some chevys put in there:D

Thanks for the advice--Hopefully they will last for a while. From what I am told the volvos use half the fuel and run forever--here is hopeing.
