That should be a fun car to drive. Get a stick or an automatic?

awesome, glad to hear ya went with the 6 cyl model. I have heard great things about this car, and as with most Mazda's... its a great buy for the money. Plus, i really like almost all of Mazda's colors.

heh.. as a 04 TL owner, I must laugh at the proposed comparison of the Mazda 6. The 6 may be loaded, but with common amenities. The TL has much more power, a luxury-sport ride AND the features are far and away more luxurious than Mazda could think about.

If it's an automatic, I hope Mazda has gotten better at building them. I owned a '93 626 ES with the auto and had to do a complete rebuild twice (6 months after I bought it used and again just 2 years later).
The 6 is an awesome looking car. Congrats on the purchase!

5-door or sports sedan?
And as for the SRT-4 vs. TL ... i dunno. You got 500lbs less than the TL, but 40 less HP ( though more torque). You MIGHT be able to edge ahead on the 1/4 mile... but thats about it. The TL would most likely kick your ass on a track with turns with its traction control, stability system, and electonic brake asssist. The TL would also out-class an SRT-4 in so many ways i wont even go into them. So... The SRT4 might be faster but "04 SRT-4 > 04 TL" is certainly not true. Oh, and sorry for the threadjack bobby. Enjoy your car

Let me preface this by saying that I hate the SRT4.
That being said, the SRT4 would absolutely own the prettier TL in any kind of performance contest. A straight line drag race would be the closest the TL would come. Take a look... SRT4 specs and TL specs as tested by Car and Driver. The SRT4, while ugly as sin, pulled 0.86 lateral g's to the TL's 0.81. The SRT4 takes 20 ft less to stop from 70mph than the TL. The SRT4 did the quarter-mile in 13.9 @ 103, to the TL's 14.4 @ 99. The SRT4 makes more torque lower in the rpm band.....great for powering out of corners. And the SRT4's biggest advantage? Weight. Over 500# of it. And on a road course, autoX, or anything with turns, size matters. The SRT4 is physically smaller as well. 500 fewer pounds and a smaller car makes for a much more nimble car. And jesus we wont even talk about price. Dont get me wrong, the TL is pretty and all, but its not a little car by any means, and it isnt going to out-handle the SRT4, no matter how ugly the SRT4 is.... ![]() And on a side note....I love how the TL is suddenly an icon of automotive perfection. bobby: Congrats on the Mazda 6. For $10k less than the TL, I say the Mazda 6 wins. ![]() Last edited by bad30th; 05-28-2004 at 10:21 AM.. |
