Rav4 or Xterra?
Hey guys, I'm a college student in the market for a new SUV. I got some cash to work with (17-19k or so) and I've narrowed my choices down to these two. I'm mostly going to use it for daily commuting around town and going places like the beach and stuff. Which one of these do you guys recommend?
Thanks. ![]() |

If you're going to use it for what it's intended, Xterra, like everyone else said.

If "going to the beach and stuff" includes hauling a lot of stuff, then I'd say the Xterra would be best. If not, then go with the RAV4, less space inside but you'll get better fuel mileage and probably a better ride.

Well, like I posted earlier, I didn't have too much cash (being a college student and all) so I got the 180 HP v6. I got 2k off MSRP which really helped. Also, I really like the rugged look that the Xterra has, opposed to the wimpy Rav4 look. ( no offense to you Rav4 owners out there.

If you haven't found your way to the Xterra Owner's Club, it's worth a look. Lots of information.
Xterra Firma is also pretty good. |

toyota usually IS more reliable and higher resale...but Nissan is the better choice this time. If he ever want to go off of the paved road, the Rav4 should not be his choice. If he will never leave the pavement, then the rav4 will be a little better ride (probably) and get better mileage. I think he made teh right choice in cars, though the supercharger would have been nice...
