Talk about in-car entertainment...
This guy put a 7" In Dash Touchscreen Computer, MP3, Divx, GPS in his Audi.
As if that beautiful car was not good enough as it was... http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1734601.phtml Mr Mephisto |
That's brilliant. That interface looks cool as hell.
Okay, it's cool, but I really wonder about how bright it is to put something as notoriously distracting as a monitor in your car. Audio entertainment has proven dangerous enough with an awfully high percentage of accidents directly attributable to mucking about with the radio. how much worse is it to have a computer/DVD in your car?
Also, friendly advice from an insurance guy to anyone wanting to do this in their own car - check with your agent. If some jackhole breaks into your ride and steals your cool expensive as hell monitors and video equipment, most policies won't cover it. You usually have to pay for a special Rider to cover anything to do with video. I've denied video equipment claims due to lack of appropriate rider many times. |
Ok...who wants to tell him, he spelled memento wrong in the interface...? But Seriously folks, that took a lot of hard work, and I for one think it looks sweet!! On the insurance side, I doubt thieves would break in to steal something that looks that factory-installed...
That looks slick. I like it a lot. What I wouldn't give to be able to do that kind of stuff.
Thieves will steal ANYTHING. Believe me on this.
OMG I want one for my car..when I get one:)
Mine is "only" a 5.6"...but runs the same software...it's called MediaEngine...free and skinable.
Couple screenshots of mine: http://telekineticfool.com/mr2/640x480BBQcomuter6.jpg http://www.az240sx.org/albums2/dvd/fightclub.jpg More info: http://mp3.telekineticfool.com/ |
Good for you telekinetic.
What kind of car is that? Finally, you have to admit that the one in the URL has a very "factory installed" look about it. Mr Mephisto |
it's a 91 Toyota MR2...and I definitely will admit that the url has that molded-in 'factory look' where as mine is kind of, shall we say, industrial? :-) I'll probably mold my screen into the dash like that eventually, but right now, I didn't want to comit to permanent modification before I knew I'd like it...besides, the aluminum was free and only took me a morning to machine :-)
Pretty cool mate. Pretty cool indeed... :)
that install (the audi) is probably the nicest DIY install of a vidscreen I've ever seen. Beautiful work!
that's really really sweet, awesome handiwork. i am very jealous.
nice.... if I have something like that in my car... i'm in my car waaaaay too much and as much as I like motoring around...there's plenty else to do that is outside of my car. I'd rather sit on my sofa and watch full surround sound and play games etc. from the comfort of my own home.
but from my old roots of high end audio in cars it's pretty rocking. |
DAMN IT! Now I am positive my truck's system needs some help.
And personally, I prefer the industrialized look to the molded in. Don't try to tart it up, the shit looks hot and it would be a shame to try to hide how cool it is. |
just wow, thats all i have to say, now i feel like iw anna get out there and runt hat shit in my truck!
wow... probably the first *tasteful* use of bondo i've ever seen.
that is a sweet setup
These folks have been advertising this for about a year now: http://www.xenarc.com/product/cp1000.html
I wouldn't hold my breath for the updated version, but it's interesting to see what they (might) be working on. I'd love to see an in-dash, touchscreeen, LCD monitor hooked to a carputer. Should be less of an issue for theft. |
i think that they really need to work a little more on the xenarc
That would have been a hell of a lot easier to do with fiberglass mat.
That bondo job is amazing...probably the cleanest looking monitor/display custom job I've seen.
Entertainment such as that would be awesome for passengers, especially on road trips...however the driver would be kept somewhat out of the loop. |
Very cool, and he likes good music, fear factory rules :)
damn that is a pretty cool install
his hardware for that sitting next to his subs... hope they dont get to close...
he should have ethernet jacks in the dash so he can download more music.. or better yet... a wireless lan setup so when its parked in the garage overnight it can download |
That is mmmmmmoney.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. That's all I have to say.
This is post #300, by the way. Yeehaw. |
that's amazing. i dunno how else to describe it. i completely love the bondo job.
Magic question: How much?
